"Is this really your goal? To corrupt Barry more?" I ask her, as I already knew I was going to be the one who would take it and Joe wouldn't like it at all.
She shrugs, "I've always wanted to kill my doppelganger anyway."
I glare at her, "Why does it have to be this way? Why can't you just get it over with?"
"Because this is more fun." She spoke, "I mean- who knows. You could be selfish- and make Joe drink it. Both Joe's of both Earth's dead. Now that would be a major plot twist. A good story for an article." She shrugged.
"You know- damn well- I'd never let Joe take that." I spat at her, my fist hitting the glass hard, causing me to gasp and jump back, shaking my hand lightly to try and shake away the growing pain in my knuckles.
"Do I hear an answer?" She questions.
"Give it to me." I spoke up, standing up straight, my palms pressed against the glass, "I'll take it."
A smirk forms on Reign's lips as Joe is quick to speak, "No- no you're not."
"Joe- this is not your decision to make." I told him.
"You sound just like Barry." Joe exclaimed, as I slowly nod in agreement.
"I know- but I can't afford to watch Barry- lose another parent figure. Iris- I can't let her lose you- Wally can't lose you. He lost his mother- he can't lose you too." I sigh, taking a deep breath.
"Barry can't lose the love of his life-" Joe tried to argue, "You have so much more life to live."
I shake my head, as Reign calls Jay over, having him phase into the cage and hand me the vial, before phasing out, standing next to his sister.
"Barry knows you're here too." Jay told me, "He's going to be in for a shock when he realizes you won't be with him for long."
I stay silent, before popping open the vial, staring at the dark liquid that rested in it.
"Zee!" Joe shouts my name as I looked at him, slowly raising the top to my lips, tipping it upward, letting the bitter liquid slip down my throat, my eyes squeezing shut at the venomous taste.
"No!" Joe shouts, as I set the vial down, on the floor, seating myself down, coughing lightly.
I tune Joe's shouts out, as I stare at the forming bruise on my hand, a sour look on my face due to the venomous taste remaining on my tongue, as we both awaited til the race.
-
"Brought the whole crew with you, huh?" Jay calls Barry out when he rushes Joe and I to where the race would happen, my eyes falling upon the huge machine they were about to race on, "Can't say I blame ya."
"Dad!" Wally called, trying to get to Joe but Iris is quick to hold him back.
"It's going to be one hell of a show." Jay grabs my arm, as I forcefully pull my arm from him, his gaze falling on me, my handcuffs hitting together, making sound.
"Don't touch me." I seethed through gritted teeth, as his eyes grow darker as he grabs my forearm, holding onto my arm, his grip tightening, as I felt myself on my tippy toes due to him slightly lifting me up, whimpering in pain.

"Don't you dare hurt her." Barry threatened, stepping closer, "Let them go."
"After we race." Jay stated.
"Cut the crap, we know you plan to power up the Magnetar so you can destroy the multiverse." Harry spoke, his gun aimed right at Jay.
"Bravo, you figured it out. Almost. I don't want to destroy all of it. This Earth is at the center of the multiverse. It's the access point to every other Earth in existence. One trans-dimensional shock wave and poof." Jay explained.
"Leaving just our Earth. How generous of you." Cisco says sarcastically.
"Need to have some place to hang my cowl." Jay says, "You might want to say your goodbyes."
With that, he races off with Joe and I, setting us down somewhere else, enough to see the view of the Magnetar.
I blink a few times, coughing lightly as I felt myself overheated, not feeling the best, knowing that the poison was starting to kick in slightly.
"Zee- we need to tell Barry about the poison-" Joe starts, as I shook my head, keeping my balance, "Not while he's running."
My eyes drift to the Magnetar, as I heard the electricity that was radiating off then crackle repeatedly.
"We're screwed." I whisper as I stare at the Magnetar, watching it starting to power up.
"Barry's got this-" Joe says, as I give him a small nod, hoping that Barry would catch up.
My eyes widen as I see what was now two Barry's running with Zoom, realizing that Barry had indeed pulled out one of Zoom's tricks, and made a time remnant, as he ran over to Joe and I, breaking the handcuffs, "Go- alright- go! I'll explain later- Go!" He shouted loud and clear, pushing us towards the group, as we made our way by the team, Wally engulfing his father in a hug.
I start to breath slightly heavy, my body feeling slightly weak, as I kept my balance, trying to make it seem like I was alright. Iris looks at me, "Hey- are you okay?"
I hum lightly in response, barely nodding my head, as she stares into my eyes confused.
"What?" I ask quietly.
"There's specks of- gold- in your eyes. Like- bright gold." Iris says confused.
I shrug and look away, my eyes landing on Barry and Jay.
"What's the time remnant doing?" Caitlin asks.
"He's creating his own pulse." Cisco watches in amazement.
"Why would be do that?" Jesse asks.
Harry answers, "Because if that's out of phase, it'll counteract that one."
"Wait- his body can't handle that." Caitlin says.
Jesse questions, "Then what's gonna happen?"
Harry's voice was cold, "He'll die."
We watched Jay and Barry have at it, as they went at each other for what felt like forever, running into different spots, throwing each other, punching, etc. Within seconds, Barry had Jay to the ground, half of his mask ripped off, ready with his phasing hand to murder him right in front of us.
I stare, fear picking up in my chest, not wanting Barry to kill Jay and ruin himself.
"You're a hero, Barry. You couldn't kill me before. You won't kill me now." Jay says, and on that cue, a small grey hole opened up in the sky, as two time wraiths came through them, as Barry smirks in victory, "I won't have to."

Barry moves away from Jay, as the time wraiths circle around Jay repeatedly, Jay turning into something I couldn't even imagine or describe, them grabbing his hands and taking him back into where they had come from.
-
We had all went back to Star Labs that night, after everything had went down and we had finally defeated Zoom. I was even weaker by now, but I did my best of hiding it. Joe was so caught up with Wally that I was hoping he had forgotten.
We all had just found out that the was indeed correct once more, and the man in the ironed mask was the real Jay Garrick, and just so happened to be Henry Allen's doppelganger.
"I'm sorry- I- I'm sorry-" Barry spoke the minute his eyes laid on Jay, before leaving the cortex walking into the hall. I let my hair down, due to the hair tie pulling on my hair, before following Barry into the hall, the sound of his quiet sobs filling my ears.
I slowly walk over to him, "Hi, hun." I say quiet, my voice raspy due to my weakness, as I stood in front of him.
He looks up at me, tears streaming down his face, "He looks just like him. He looks just like my dad- I can't believe this." He stood up, looking down at me.
"I know- I know. He doesn't know that he's your father's doppelganger." I barely whisper, this being as loud as I could talk anymore, as I leaned back against the wall to help myself stay up.
"My dad told us- he told us that his mom's maiden name was Garrick- I just didn't think it'd be like this-" Barry says quick, practically have a whole breakdown.
I grab his hands quickly, stopping him from moving, looking up at him, "I can go tell him that needed to leave for a while." I offer quietly.
"No- it's fine- I'll be all right- I just- need one minute-" Barry mumbles before I felt myself slid down the wall, as he collapses into my arms, holding me tight, letting out a few tears, trying to calm himself down as I held him to my chest.
After a few minutes, he slowly got up, as I found myself struggling to get up. I stay seated on the ground, clearing my throat lightly, looking down.
"Aren't you gonna get up?" Barry asks me, wiping his tears away, sniffling.
"I- yeah-" I whisper, my voice fully raspy, as I try to get up, only succeeding half way before falling over, Barry catching my arms and pulling me up before I hit the ground.
"Are you okay?" He asks me.
I give him a small nod, as I started to slowly following him back into the cortex where everyone was. I cough, feeling extremely weak, lightheaded, and overheated.
Joe's gaze lands on me as his eyes widen, as if he had just realized that the venom was affecting me fully now.
I lean my hand against a desk, trying to keep myself steady, this lasting a few seconds before I completely collapse, falling onto my knees, gasping for air, while coughing and feeling sweaty.
Barry is quick to come by me, on his knees now, one hand on my stomach and one on my back, keeping me from completely falling over, all the attentions towards me now, "Zee- honey- what's wrong- what happened- what's going on-" He bombards me with questions.
I look up at everyone, the specks of gold in my eyes glowing brighter through my brown eyes now that the poison was in full effect.
"We need to figure out what's wrong with her-" Caitlin starts as Wally watches me in fright, Harry observing me, Jesse stood next to Wally, Iris' hand over her mouth, slight tears in her eyes, Cisco already grabbing a few tests Caitlin has used before.
"Barry- it's poison." Joe admits, causing everyone to freeze in their spots, as I trying to take deep breaths, needing oxygen in my body.
"What the hell do you mean it's poison?" Barry asks Joe, completely concerned and freaked out.
"When Reign took her- she forced her to make a choice." Joe explained, as quick as he could, "Reign somehow got her hands on- some regenerated snake venom from Star City- that it affected both human and meta humans- She told Zee to choose who took the poison, because one of us was going to have to. She said it's either she forced the poison down my throat, where you- Wally and Iris, lost another parent figure- or she took the poison and you lost her."
Barry's eyes filled with tears as he stared at Joe, his eyes wide, before his head snaps back towards me, "No- no." His voice cracks lightly.
Cisco drops whatever was in his hands, Harry staring at me, "No- there has to be something we can do. We just beat Zoom- and we can't cure the poison?" Harry was already working on some sort of cure.
I slipped away from Barry's hold, falling back onto the ground, my eyes fully closing, as I heard many footsteps crowd around me, my entire vision going completely black.

[ barry's pov ]
"No- no- no-" I shake Zee's body, tears slipping over my eyes, trying to wake her back up, trying to get her to open her eyes.
"I just lost my dad- I can't lose you too- please- please wake up- open your eyes- Zee- open your eyes!" I shake her harder, but it was doing no use, as I let out a sob.
Everyone around me stayed silent, as I started to give up on shaking her, "I love you- please- Zee! Come on- come on- come on- get up!" I quietly beg, tears falling freely.
"Barry- she's not waking up." Iris cries from behind me, as I stop shaking Zee, slowly bringing my pointer and middle fingers to her neck, checking for her pulse.
She had no pulse.

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]
