《I'm Stuck! [The Umbrella Academy : Five Hargreeves X Reader]》Chapter One

"It looks like it's some sort of temporal anomaly," mused Luther. "Either that or a miniature black hole. One of the two."
Diego couldn't help but retort, "Pretty big difference there, Paul Bunyan."
Klaus suddenly came up running towards the blue swirl of energy, carrying a fire extinguisher as he tried to spray it but throwing the whole thing into it when nothing happened.
"What is that gonna do?"
"I don't know! Do you have a better idea?"
The electricity started crackling, all of them surprised when it suddenly split into two while a figure tried pushing against it. What left the first portal was a boy wearing an oversized suit, with the second one a teenage girl falling straight at her arse, wearing jeans and a black shirt.
"Ow! The heck?" said the girl, the thunder fading as the group panicked but was struck frozen when they saw the first figure.
"Does anyone see little Number Five or is that just me?" Klaus was the first to break the silence.
The boy looked at them in confusion and then looked at his hands, muttering, "Shit."
But the girl, upon looking up, could only gape at the nine figures in front of her. Once she got out of her initial shock, she immediately slapped herself lightly alongside pinching herself, hard. She grimaced once she felt that it hurt.
"And who are you supposed to be?" Allison asks as the girl just exhaled in absolute disbelief, licking her suddenly dry lips as she tried to comprehend what's happening.
"Family meeting in the kitchen," Luther decides to lead, ushering the rest as Klaus thought to take it upon himself to grab the girl gently by the arm and bring her with them.
They were all in silence as the other six siblings alternated between the two teenage-looking newcomers, the boy walking around confidently as if he owns the place while the girl simply on a seat not making any eye contact.
Five sighed, "What's the date? The exact date." He asked, looking up at his older-looking siblings.
"The twenty-fourth," answered Vanya helpfully.
"Of what?"
"March."
"2019?" The girl said, whipping her head up at Vanya, who gave her a confused look but nodded in answer.

"And who are you supposed to be?" Five said in irritation.
"You both came out of the same portal," Luther said with a frown.
"But--what do you mean I came out of a portal?" The girl said, clearly in distress.
"Answer the question," gritted Five. "I can tell you're not part of the Commision."
"I.." she started but took a huge breath and exhaled, trying to calm herself. "Will you all believe me if I said I'm from the year 202X?"
She looked at Five who was furrowing his brows at her, clearly not believing a second of it. She could only gaze at him helplessly.
"I know, unbelievable. Apocalypse in eight days, all that." A lot of confused gasps came from the others, while Five was now frowning at her suspiciously. "I don't-I don't know what the fck happened, but this apocalypse never happened in MY world. I.." she seems to think about something before adding, "I am NOT supposed to be here."
"Yeah, no shit," Five said in distaste as he teleported behind Luther, grabbing the peanut butter.
"I haven't missed that," said Luther as he jolted in surprise. "Okay, but can we talk about what happened?"
Luther said as he towered over Five, who simply ignored him.
"It's been seventeen years."
"It's been a lot longer than that." He scoffed.
"Where'd you go?"
"The future. It's shit by the way," which was followed by a laugh from the new girl and a "Called it!" Comment from Klaus.
"Who are you again? And why are you here?" Five asked with gritted teeth, looking up from his marshmallow peanut butter sandwich.
"I'm.. [Name]. And just.. God, I don't even know if I'm allowed to say anything coz I might fuck things up but I.. I know you, all of you. And I know how things are gonna happen, kinda." She added meekly, as she thought of the last time she'd seen them. "Obviously, I'm not supposed to be here but the only conclusion I could come up with is that I'm either dreaming -- which I've proven I could get hurt but I mean, I dunno if that's a good basis, or there is indeed such a thing as a parallel universe."

"Parallel universe?" Quipped Diego in confusion.
"Yeah, you know? Like, uhm," she tried to think of how to explain it. "Multiple branches of reality split into different versions, and in my version, there's no such thing as 'people with superhuman capabilities', or at least, none that I know of."
"And how do we know you're not saying absolute bullshit?" Five was quite clearly skeptical, uncertain about this new girl who apparently came with him, knowing that there was no one around when he entered the portal in the first place.
"I.. ehm," she bit her lip. "Well I could tell you information about yourselves?" She tried, looking up at them while trying her best to appear small as all attention was again on her.
"Like, number One, Luther, is.. God I don't even know if I should be saying any of this or it should be the rest of you telling this to each other" she stopped, looking at them in distress.
"Just say it," said Five sternly, the girl again biting her lip as she looked at each of them and sighed.
"Okay, sorry uh, Luther is basically half-ape at this point," followed by shocked gasps as they looked at Luther, who avoided everybody's questioning gaze.
"Is it true?" Allison tentatively asked followed by silence.
"Well you're not fooling anyone with that ridiculous overcoat," Five sniped. "What else?" He directed to the girl.
"Diego is.. ehm, he used to stutter a lot when he was a kid. Three, Allison, uses her rumors to.. get what she wants," she said in almost a whisper, keeping her gaze locked at the floor.
"Come again?"
"She, uhm, uses her rumors to.. you know? Get what she wants." With Allison this time averting her siblings' eyes.
"Four, Klaus, I dunno if it's considered both Four and Six' secret but Ben is very much still with us." And this time she looked up, sensing the silence from the others, seeing that they looked in shock at Klaus while he looked over his shoulder, possibly at Ben.
"And you didn't tell us?!" Allison was the first to say something.
"I-I tried to! But all of you didn't believe me," he defended.
"Okay, what else? About me?" Five asked in challenge, arching a brow as he crossed his arms.
"You were stuck in the apocalypse for years before being hired by the Commission, getting rid of anyone who tries messing with the timeline," she said, lifting her chin in defiance against his cocky behaviour.
"And how do you know that when you just said we don't exist in your world?" He asked with gritted teeth, teleporting right in front of her and grabbing her arm harshly to get her to look straight at him.
But she only clenched her jaw, looking away with furrowed brows. "I-I don't know how to say it, I don't want to add more burden nor existential crisis to all of you, but you.. kinda exist there."
"What do you mean by 'kinda'?"
And she sighed deeply at this, finally looking up at his green furious eyes. "You're a show in my universe."
And he gazed up at her in disbelief, muttering, "What?" As his hold on her loosened, but not fully letting go.
She averted her eyes from him, this time looking at the rest who were also in shock. "Yeah, I know, probably weird, but it is. That's how I know a lot about you all."
"Didn't think our life is interesting enough for it to be made into a show," Klaus murmured.
"Oh trust me, it is. Your dad is an asshole, your family is very dysfunctional while you all realized how effed up your lives were alongside figuring out how to stop the apocalypse." She explained.
"And what's this about an 'apocalypse'?" Diego asked, crossing his arms as he looked both at her and Five.
Five huffed at this. "Fine! Since it's all out in the open now," Five said, pointedly glaring at the girl. "Might as well say it. There's an apocalypse eight days from now, and I don't know how to stop it."

Who knows, maybe you'll learn a recipe or two from it. Hope you enjoy!Updates at least once a week. Special thanks to Asviloka for so much help in the art direction of the cover. Much love to her. Flap Merganser: Space Duck
This story began as joke to troll some dude on reddit, but I fell in love with the premise and kind of went crazy writing without any direction or planning. Luckily for me, I spent a couple months convinced I was dying and stepped away from the project. I'm not dying by the way, at least not any more than in the traditional sense. But during that period of inner turmoil, I was able to step back and realize I wasn't too thrilled with the direction this was going. So I have relaunched this project under the name Duck Around and Find Out. Some elements will be the same, and some early chapters may be pretty close to what was in the original draft, but I wanted to get into the action with a bit more haste. That being said, I'm going to leave this up here for now so that you can see how this whole project started. So read it if you want to. Or don't. I don't really care. I'm just happy I don't actually have a terminal cancer.
