《His Unexpected Gang》19| Oh no, you're bleeding.

My eyes flutter open, and I hear someone say, "The bitch is awake."
I turn to see Mila and roll my eyes. "I hope you rot in hell," I say. I'm handcuffed to a chair and look up.
She slaps my face pathetically, and I laugh. "Is that all you got? Weak bitch." I murmur.
She laughs and says, "How about a knife?"
She stabs me in my stomach multiple times, and I see I'm starting to lose blood. I feel my eyes water with the pain but keep my face blank.
"Is that better?" She asks with a sickly sweet smile.
I try to stay strong and ask, "Why the fuck are you doing all of this?"
"You really annoy the fuck out of me..." She says, grabbing a gun.
"I think it's better if I just kill you now." She says, loading it.
I don't respond, and she stops. "Or maybe I should kill, I don't know, Ashton," She asks.
"Don't you fucking dare go near him," I respond.
"Aww, guess you do have a weakness," Mila says, pointing the gun at my forehead. Before I could respond, she shot my forehead.

My eyes flutter open, and I look around. Where am I?
I look down and realize I'm zip tied to a metal chair. Before I can devise a plan, someone opens the door and flips the light on. I immediately pretend to be asleep, hoping I'll have more time to think.
I hear them walking toward me until they stop in front of me. They slap my cheek, and my eyes automatically open. I see Mila and glare at her.
"Oh good, the whore's awake." She says.
"Why are you doing this?" I ask with a blank stare.

"It's nothing personal..." She says, cupping my cheek. "Your gang just happens to be very powerful in this state. After I take over the Red Claws, I'll take over Mayhem."
I glare at her and say, "Don't you dare go near him."
She laughs like an ugly witch and says, "I don't think you're in a position to give a threat, sweetie."
I keep my face expressionless and say, "My family will notice that I'm gone."
"Don't worry. They'll find your dead body. Sooner than later." She says, punching my face.
She continues to punch me until I lose consciousness.
It's only been a day, and they still haven't given me any food or water. At this point, I'm probably going to die of starvation.
I don't have anything on me, so I have no way of contacting anyone. I try to look down and roll my eyes.
I bow my head down, causing my chin to touch my chest. I sigh in relief when I still feel it around my neck.
Ashton knows my location, so all I need to do is wait. I'm sure my family is figuring something out, and I just need to be patient.
My pep talk doesn't stop the few tears that roll down my face. I attempt to escape but groan in frustration. It's no use if my arms and legs are tied to the chair.
I should have let Ashton meet me at Target. None of this would have happened. Someone opens the door and turns on the light.
My eyes shut due to the light, and I start to feel dizzy. I feel my heart rate increase and try to calm myself down.
Mila comes into my line of vision, and I give her a blank stare. She grabs a small knife from a tray and grabs a chair.

I saw she bandaged her arm and smirked. "How is your boo boo? Did you cry to your mommy?" I ask.
She sits across from me and starts tracing the knife on my arm. "You might be wondering why no one's come to save you..."
I stay silent, and she digs the knife into my skin. I grunt out in pain, and she frowns. "It's not fun torturing people when they stay quiet."
"You belong in an asylum," I say.
She laughs and slowly takes out the knife. The cut is only an inch deep, but it still hurts like a motherfucker.
"I had my partner put a virus in your basement. I assumed that's where your family would go to search for you. But just to be sure, I also put one on the base's computers. It'll just make sure your software glitches and gives you wrong information," She says.
"They think you're at this random abandoned building with some underground tunnels. But sewage isn't really my thing." She says, placing the knife down.
She randomly punches my face, and I feel my lip start to bleed again. "Oh no, you're bleeding." She says, feigning innocence.
"Once I escape, I'm going to murder you." I threaten.
She pretends to yawn and says, "I'm bored." She gets up from her chair and folds it up. She hits my body with the metal chair, and I groan. No shit.
Before she leaves, she pulls the left side of my shoulder further back. She doesn't stop until it's dislocated, and that causes me to scream.
"Nighty night." She says before leaving me in this dark room.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.

Directorate: Nationbuilding in Apocalypse
A nation is just a means of survival. Metro Manila fell within 5 months of the first report of cannibalism. Once a hyperurbanized region of 15 million inhabitants, it's been reduced to a dead, greenless shell. Most of the infected had since left to ravage the countryside. The central government was nowhere to be found. Among the survivors who clung to the few gardens and humble plots of arable land left, one of them finds evidence that the slaughter wasn't going to just end with the first wave. Without a nation and a wall of guns, everyone will die. Directorate is an original nationbuilding webnovel that focuses on the gradual rise to power of a select few individuals, and the subsequent unification of the survivors of a devastated Metro Manila. Releases targeted at every 1 to 3 weeks. If there are no chapter updates after 3 weeks, there will be a progress update. Number of releases targeted at a maximum of 100 chapters. Every 10-15 chapters, there will be a 1-month hiatus to let me plan for the next 10-15 chapters. Double releases have a not-insignificant-but-still-small chance of occurring.
