《Say I do》chapter 14: Say I do

*unedited so it contains lots of grammar mistakes*
"I'm sorry" I apologise, with my head hung low in total shame. I didn't dare to look up Liam who was probably furious.
It was the morning after a regretful night. That was exactly how I felt.
I couldn't believe I puked all over Liam.
"You puked on me"
I sigh "let's not talk about my shameful moment"
"I had to have a shower twice"
"Mhm" I hum "I'm sorry again"
He grunted and sipped his coffee as he leaned against the kitchen counter. "I was nice enough to give you my shoes"
I looked up at him with an annoyed expression. I bit my tongue to stop myself from making it all worse.
"I'll be leaving" I state, grabbing my dirty clothes which Liam admitted to taking off. His excuse was 'I didn't want my bed to smell like puke'. I couldn't exactly argue since I was in the wrong.
"You're not leaving" Liam said.
I spin around. "What?"
"You owe me"
I frown.
"You ruined my suit and I saved you last night. You owe me". His voice deepened with a hint of mischief. I groan and roll my eyes.
"Fine" I say between gritted teeth "what do you want?"
"We're going for a coffee" he said before grabbing his jacket.
"But you just had some!" I cry running behind him as we got into the car.
The whole ride was quite and I still couldn't look him directly in the eye. My memories of confessing my hate towards him almost sounded like a love confession.
We finally stopped in front of the cafe we usually go to. My eyes suddenly caught a man I've been dreading to see. Chris
Liam calls me to get out and I quickly lock the door. He raised his eyebrow, as he came around to my side. "what are you doing?" he mouthed.
I just shrug.
"out"
I shake my head.
"now"
I shake my head again.
"Adeline, get out!" He snaps loosing his cool and bashing his fist against the window as I began to record his angry ass. I laughed whilst snapping the whole thing. Liam suddenly grabbed his car keys and clicked the button. The door unlocked and I took a deep breath. "oh fuck"
"fuck indeed" Liam smitten, dragging me out of the car. "Adeline you-"
"Liam, Adeline" Chris called, approaching us and saving me from being murdered. Liam slipped his arm around me and I snort, slapping it.
"Chris" Liam smiled "you're here"
Chris nodded as his eyes flickered to me. A smirk crept upon his lips like he knew what was going on. "everything ok?"
"fine, thanks" I mutter, walking away from the men. The last thing I needed was Chris on my case.
I could hear them walking behind me. Just as I was about to walk in, a familiar man stood in the doorway.
"Liam" He called, looking at him as they approached each other.
"Kai" Liam smiled, holding his hand out.
The men talked for a moment until we finally all went in. They walked over to a table and sat down. Unlucky for me, Liam decided to sit next to the new guy leaving me a seat next to Chris. Chris caught me frowning and winked. I snarl at him. There was no way I was siting next to him.
"I'll order" I announced.
They all gave me their order and I quickly lined up in the queue. It was almost 5 minutes and the guy ahead of me still hasn't moved. I was growing impatient. 1, I was hungry and 2, I was hungry.

"could you hurry up, you're holding a queue here?" I groan, tapping my feet impatiently. The man glared at me before dashing off. I approached the counter and the girl gave me a smile.
"sorry about the wait" she apologised. She looked familiar.
"don't worry about it" I smile, dismissing it.
"so what can I get you?" she asked
"I'll have cappuccino, 2 black coffee and..what did Kai want again?" I trail off trying to remember what Kai wanted. I glance over, tempted to yell across the room for his order.
"Kai normally orders Caffe latte" The girl responded. She looked taken back by her own answer "sorry about that"
I gave her an odd expression but secretly smiled knowing she probably knows him well. "a caffe latte it is"
I was bored out of my mind so I decide to make conversation.
"how long have you been working here?"
"3 months"
I nod slowly. "I'm Adeline, by the way" The girl just nods carefully. "and you are?"
"Ava" she responds, pointing at her name tag. Ah- Ava from last time. How could I forget.
There was a long silence between us. "are you sure you don't want me to deliver to your table?"
"oh no" I snort, glancing at Chris. I leaned over the counter to get closer enough to whisper. "I'm actually trying to avoid someone"
Ava stares at me, waiting for me to continue.
"Chris, guy with blonde hair"
She glances over and nods. She then leans over and plops her elbow and rests her chin on it "why?" she whispers back.
"he's got a thing for me" I blurt. I must be drunk still "shit, I wasn't supposed to say that. Don't tell my husband"
I groan and smack my forehead. I just referred Liam as my husband even though he was my 'fiancee' but the engagements off so he's actually nothing to me. Why am I making it more complicated?
"who's your husband?"
I bite my lip and look over at the guys. Liam was busy chatting away. It's not there' any harm in telling her right? shes a stranger, more reasons to tell her. I turn around and point my finger directing at Liam.
Ava stayed silent for a long moment as she studied Liam. Her eyes flashed something I couldn't put my finger on.
"Do you see him?" I whisper, turning around and a screaming at the figure standing in front of me.
"See who?" Chris asked, smiling innocently.
I scowled at him.
"What do you want?" I snarl, crossing my arms over my chest.
Chris grabbed my hand without saying a word and pulled me into the toilets as I protested against him.
"Let go of me!"I hiss, digging my nails into his hand which gripped onto mine. It was as if he didn't feel any pain as I clawed his hand.
"Listen to me" he said, pushing me against the wall and blocking me from getting out of his hold.
"Let go or I scream" I groaned, my lips quaver in anger.
Chris chuckled and I was so ready to punch him if it wasn't for my conscienous.
"Do you have any idea what you've gotten yourself into?" He asked.
I roll my eyes. "That's none of your concern"
"You're right" he said "it's not. But I'm only thinking about you"
"Don't"
"You'll never be able to escape from this"
I grit my teeth. "Like I said it's none-"
"Do you seriously think Arthur Saevatore will let you walk out after humiliating his whole family over a 'fake engagement'?"

I bit my lip. Chris's words beginning to burry in my mind.
"I-"
"Listen to me. Liam doesn't give a single fuck about you. I grew up with him and not once has he ever gave a fuck about anything in his life. You definitely aren't going to be the start"
I sighed. My mind went completely blank and I couldn't think straight. Chris was serious, everything from his body language to his expression screamed seriousness. He was beginning to scare me.
"I'm so interested to know why a girl like you agreed to something like this. At the same time I feel sorry for you. Let me help you"
A genuine smile appeared on his lips and I felt the tiniest part of my heart actually melt.
"Chris I-"
I was cut off by Chris making a move and I quickly caught on, sliding my head to the side as his lips pressed against my cheek.
"You jerk!" I snapped, elbowing him in the stomach causing him to stumble back in pain. "This is the help you meant? No thanks. Screw you"
I quickly rush out so he couldn't drag me back. I rush past the counter and head over to Liam.
"I'm leaving" I mumbled. I couldn't face Chris. I couldn't face Liam either. I just couldn't do all of this.
Just as I was about to walk away Liam grabbed my hand. He excused himself from Kai and dragged me outside.
"Liam" I called, pulling my hand away from his.
"I can't-"
"Marry me Adeline" he disrupted me.
My jaw opened wide and I looked at him with the most horrified look ever. What the heck did he just say?
"W-what?" I Stutter.
Liam sighed, running his hands though his hair and groaning out of frustration.
"Marry me" he repeated, his hands cupping mine.
I panicked as my heart began to beat at a fast pace.
"Are you drunk?" I ask, praying that he was or I was about to wack him for joking with me.
"I'm serious"
I scanned his eyes searching for some sort of amusement but he never looked more serious then now.
"You need another coffee" I snort "and I need sleep"
I slide past him but couldn't even make it to another pavement when he grabbed me, pulling me back.
"My grandfather wants to meet you" he suddenly spoke.
I gulped. Say what now?
"He's throwing a formal party to introduce you to the whole family properly" Liam said, scratching the back of his neck "he's also waiting on the wedding date"
A laugh escaped my lips. Liam looked like I was a lunatic but I couldn't help but laugh at this situation.
We were broken up. This whole think was meant to be fake. Only for 2 months and we'd go our separate ways and now he wants to get married?. A legal form of relationship. Something you can't take as a joke and something you definitely cannot continue on when the whole relationship is based on a damn lie!
"You're stupid" I say "you want to get married? Like real marriage? This whole thing is fake"
Liam sighed. "I know but I need this"
"I don't understand!" I snapped, as my patience was beginning to wear away. Why? Why did he need to so bad that he couldn't even tell me properly. "You said just being fake engagement for a few months was OK!"
Liam bit his lips and hurled a scream into his hands. I could tell he was stressed as much as I was.
"His going to die Adeline. If I don't do this now, I never will"
"Do what?"
His eyes flashed guilt but only for a split second. His mouth parted slightly to speak. "This marriage. I told you this was his final wish, he needs to see me settled.."
I almost felt like everything that came out of Liam's mouth was all a lie. Something didn't feel right. My heart was almost rejecting it all.
"Find someone else" I hiss. I was tired of this bullshit. I need a good night sleep and coffee.
"It has to be you" he grunted "come on Ad, all you got to do is marry me for a while. I promise you, I'll divorce you the moment its all over. You'll be free and you'll never have to deal with me again"
It was a lot to take in and my head began to spin. I couldn't do this. Not marriage, specially to someone I don't love.
"Marriage isn't a joke Liam. It's a lifetime commitment. I can't marry someone I don't love and heck you can't either"
He clenched his jaw. "Marriage doesn't have to be based on love. I just need you to trust me"
I felt a pang of hurt.
I shake my head. "There is no trust without love"
Liam groaned and pulled his tie, opening his top few shirt buttons as he took a deep breath.
"I can't give you love. I'll give you anything. Money, trust, faithfulness, respect but I can't give you love" he said.
There was a long silence between us until he spoke again. "Just for a while Adeline. Just marry me and when it's all done, you can find your true love shit. You'll never turn back. I'll give you everything you need. A stable job, money, house. Anything"
I bit my lip as anger rose inside of me. "You're not thinking straight" I state "I can't and I won't "
I turned around and walked way. I almost sprinted away from him.
I don't need money nor do I need a damn house. I can't agree to one of the biggest decision in my life. Marriage was no joke to me even if it was for Liam.
I suddenly felt a hand grab mine and my body was forcefully spun around. My eyes met with Liam's.
His mouth parted slightly as he breathed heavily.
"Please Adeline. Marry me" he said.
"Say I do"

Sixty two years had passed since a near cataclysmic event had taken place, and countless tales from those times and times before have been written into history. History can inspire to do good whilist preventing evil, yet at the same time, can inspire evil to become smarter, and more skillful in its ways. The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
