《My new stepbrothers the sequel》Cameron

I turned up the radio as Jasper and I danced to the fast tune, Bennett was singing ....not the song I don't know what he is singing but Stella Ruth found it very entertaining. She clapped her hands together over and over again. She is supposed to be asleep but it's only 30 minutes after her bedtime and this is the longest she has stayed awake. I used the spatula I was holding to lip-sink the words. Stopping only to flip the grilled cheese, Jasper showing off his AWFUL dance moves not like I'm good but definitely better than whatever he was doing. I set the grilled cheese on a plate and set it on the table in front of Bennett along with carrots which he grimaced at.
I poured him some water and set it next to the plate, Jasper finished his solo and the song ended so he jumped up as if he had just performed the best thing in the world he hadn't. He picked up Stellar and carried her upstairs to get her ready for bed. The doorbell rang unexpectedly, I went to answer it, noting the thundering rainstorm outside. I opened the door and furrowed my brow, Cameron was standing there. He was wet basically drenched so I ushered him in and grabbed a towel.
" How'd you get here?" I asked taking off his drenched shoes, then his socks.
" I uh took the bus" He mumbled
" How'd you take the bus?" I asked and he pulled a pile of coins out of his pocket " Ok why are you here sweetie, do your parents know you here?"
He shook his head but didn't explain " Can I stay here tonight?" He asked and I sighed
" sure... just let me call your parents," I said taking out my phone it went to voice mail so I just left a voice mail saying Cameron was with me

" They won't pick up they're fighting again," He said I frowned for a second before slowly nodding.
" Cameron?" Jasper asked walking back downstairs. I whispered quickly to Jasper and he nodded.
" I'm going to draw you a bath, don't want you to watch a cold," I said taking his hand and leading him upstairs. Once the hot bath was ready I closed the door giving him some privacy.
" 'ave you reached Charlie and Victoria?" Jasper asked as I put Cameron's clothes in the wash. I shook my head and leaned against the wall. " I'll go make him a grilled cheese but I don't know if we have any clothes that might fit him"
I walked back upstairs to look for anything that might be able to fit Cameron. The closest I got was one of my t-shirts that shrunk in the wash and a pair of shorts too big for Bennett to fit into. I knocked on the bathroom door and he muttered a barely audible come in. I pushed open the door and he sunk under the bubbles in the bath.
" Hey buddy, I'm not sure these will fit you but you can try," I said when you're done just come downstairs we made grilled cheese ok?" I said and he nodded
I closed the door and walked back down the stairs, Bennett was standing there with his hands on his hips, I grinned and picked him up to get him ready for bed.
" Is Cameron sleeping 'ere?" He asked and I nodded " my room?"
" I don't know sweetie maybe," I said turning off the light and kissing his cheek. " I love you"
After 7 minutes Cameron came downstairs, the shorts fit but the shirt was a little loose. I gave him his grilled cheese and he ate it silently, I and Jasper exchanged look him urging me to ask. I let out a small sigh and sat across from Cameron.

" Hey, Cameron so want to tell me why you took the bus here?" I asked he looked up at me tears welling in his eyes.
" They're always fighting," He said and tears started falling from his eyes. He sniffed " I just wanted them to stop" Jasper frowned as Cameron stared really long trying to get his tears to go away.
" Hey it's ok," Jasper said kneeling next to Cameron's chair.
" But... I...I" He paused and turned his head to the side avoiding my eye " Kye was asleep and Maddison was hiding in the basement they hate hearing them argue, but I tried to get them to stop....I gave them both a hug and asked them to stop yelling and...and ... mom turned and yelled at me to get out of the room she said it was closed for a reason and I shouldn't have interrupted her," He said " and dad didn't say anything just stared at me they hate me"
Japer and I both walked over to him hugging him " no buddy they don't they are just mad they don't mean any of it" Jasper said
" Do you want to watch some tv, and I can make you some hot chocolate we are going to talk to them in the morning ok but you're here now?" I said and he nodded. I kissed his forehead before turning on the kettle. He sat on the couch criss-cross. Jasper sat next to him letting Cameron watch whatever he wanted. I added marshmallows and gave Cameron the hot chocolate the only time I will ever let someone drink in the living room.

Flashback: Siren Song
The year is 1969. Yancy Lazarus—bluesman, gambler, future world-class mage and fix-it man—is just a dumb, unlucky kid serving with the 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in Vietnam. With just a few weeks left to go until Yancy gets shipped back to the States, he’s just trying to keep his head down and avoid a body bag—no mean feat in Nam. But when his squad is tasked with conducting a routine patrol deep in enemy territory, everything goes to nine kinds of hell, and he quickly sees his chances at survival slipping away. When the radio operators start to pick up some funky, dirty ol’ blues all the way out in the backcountry, it’s a nice change of pace. At least until the men in Yancy’s squad start losing their minds, turning on each other with murderous intent as the music works its deadly power within them. Convinced it’s some kind of new psychological warfare initiative, the squad leader forces the men to push deeper and deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, obsessed with locating the music’s source. What they find, however, isn’t some new technology, but an ancient spirit awoken by the terrible war. Even worse, the music is changing Yancy too, awakening something buried inside of him. Only one thing is certain, nothing is ever going to be the same.See how it all began … *** PRAISE FOR SIREN SONG:Hunter's writing is as low-down, gritty, and insidious as the blues Yancy Lazarus loves. Just like the mysterious music drifting through the jungle toward Yancy's squad, Siren Song will get under your skin and sink its hooks into your mind. —eden Hudson, Author of Halo Bound (the Redneck Apocalypse series) *** Hey everyone, this is James Hunter. This story isn't a full length novel--its a novella length work (25K words), and is part of my Yancy Lazarus series.
