Well honestly they all need this for sure. But the most important thing for them is having a mountain. If they don't have a mountain they can never climb it.
In the same way think of mountain being your goal and the equipment and the weather conditions might be your helping hand but they are just helping hand you need to achieve your goal on your own capabilities.
Conclusion: the best mountain climbing equipment is if little use only if you have a mountain to climb

Probably most significant, I think, is a major trans character who appears about 80K words in - no spoilers, just a note for those who care about that one way or the other.
