《Faded [Completed]》A Glimpse

"Good luck is overrated. I won't say a bit of destiny by your side can't turn things over but that's not always true. Sometimes with all the fortune and good luck right at your plate you have to struggle. Hard. That's the time when all these talks about luck fade away. That time only your hard work matters not your good or hard luck. So just focus on your goals. Don't adopt the path of destiny. Make your destiny turn into the path you've craved for your self. Thank you."

The hall erupted with applause once he was done with the motivational speech. His eyes raked over the beaming faces of fashion students and a smile crept its way on his face too. Being on top of the fashion world of the country he'd always wanted to let the fresh minds know that they have all the power to turn their shortcomings into their strength. Right at this moment he felt at ease. At least the constant gnawing ache of being torn within wasn't eating him here. It felt good. A nice escape.

When he was approached to attend this event he was skeptical about it. But at last giving in proved a good thing. He got to see some masterpieces made by the students and his faith that fashion industry had a long way to go in this country strengthened some more.

Almost all the eyes were glued to him. Some filled with admiration, some with envy and some with nothing but pure fascination. In his late twenties he was running the best fashion house along with some other industries. He was someone people will always be interested in. He never gave a heed to what others thought of him anyway. That was an unnecessary headache and he had his fair share of those.

Taking a deep breath and throwing a genuine smile at the crowd he was about to take his seat back at the table when his eyes fell on a face and he couldn't take them off. Just couldn't.

Those familiar hazel eyes were staring at him without blinking and that very moment he knew he was damned.

Five Years.

Five freaking years.

He was looking at this face after five long years and even though the physical changes were evident he still could never mistake this face with anyone else's.

Her face.

The myriad of memories were flashing in his mind. Tearing him from within.

But he won't let them to get to him.

What's past is in the past.

He won't let it ruin him. Not anymore.

With a hardened face he excused the confused VC and taking long strides left from there. Her face fading away with each passing step.

Just like her existence had five years back.

She watched his form walking out of the doors. He was the same. The confidence in his stance was still intact. The tint of arrogance was also in place. Appearance had changed over the years but still she could never mistake those brown eyes she once fell so deep into.

Was it easy?

Coming here and seeing the almost someone of your life? It wasn't. Her sweaty palms were paining by the way she's dug her nails into them. Her heart aching and mind a mess.

She almost felt like a tornado of emotion was going to swept herself into it. But now wasn't the time. She wasn't here to just have a glimpse of that handsome face.

She was here for something else and she'll ask for it no matter what.

Taking short but determined steps she came out of the hall and ran her eyes in the empty hallway. She had an idea where he was staying in his lavish hotel. Holding her bag close to her she started walking in the direction. And soon enough she found the people he'd come here with gathered around close to a door.

A door where she would find him.

She kept on staring at her surroundings. There was once a time she wouldn't even have to tell anyone and barge inside his room. Things were different now. They were different now.

"Can I help you mam?"

Her head whipped in the direction of a small woman. Must be his secretory.

"I want to meet your boss."

"I'm sorry mam but we are here for an event. He can't entertain visitors now."

"It won't take long."

"Mam I'm sorry..."

She heaved a sigh. The woman was adamant but she was too. Meeting him here was mandatory.

"Listen...I..."

Her words died on her lips seeing the door getting opened. He appeared with an impassive expression set on his face.

"Let her in."

His secretory immediately nodded and taking long strides left the place.

Her eyes went from the woman's retreating form and then the opened door. Breathing in the necessary air she took a step forward and entered inside.

She had tried to be strong but facing him after all these years wasn't easy. His eyes were staring at her intently. The nonchalance in his stance was not new. But it still hurt. It always did.

"Long time hun? What made you come out of your self imposed hibernation?"

She didn't flinch at his tone. The sass beneath those words wasn't hidden from her.

"What do you think?"

"Well.. My guess will be that you finally got bored of missing me but that's kind of taking it far. So no. I'm not a fucking psychic."

"Or may be you are still not good at reading other people. Always so lost in your own self."

"That's the precious piece of information you came here to give me?"

She shook her head. The resolve with which she'd come here faltering a bit.

"Then?"

"I'm here to demand something."

He left the place he was standing and stood in the tall window.

"My heart? Oh. I'm taking it far again. But go on. I'm all ears. That's the least I can do for my...."

"I want a divorce... Shehryar."

The words left her mouth at once and with his immediately hardened back she knew whatever coming wasn't good.
