《[MXTX] Three Times the Love》Chapter 64 - Fifty Arrows, Fifty Dead

On the battlefield, soldiers rode their horses into the horizon. Mu Qing raced against the crowd of ghost soldiers, with a fleeting trace of cold across his face. He held his sword, then slashed at the nearby ghost soldiers, who couldn't reach him.
"CHARGE!" He led the Qinghe Nie disciples onto their horses.
Slowly, the grey robed disciples noticed something. Some of the people on the horses didn't wear grey, but rather, white.
"Gusu Lan." The disciples figured it out.
"There's me too!" Ouyang Zizhen slashed at a ghost soldier by his side.
Both Lan Sizhui and Jingyi were surprised. Before they can stare wide-eyed at their friend, two hand slapped at their backs. "Don't let your guard down." Lan Xichen instructed. He brandished his own sword, then swung it cleanly at the ghost soldiers.
The surrounding enemies gradually decreased.
Lan Sizhui spun around, with his white robes sweeping by his feet. He landed on the ground, dodging a narrow attack. "Where is Jin Ling?"
Lan Jingyi blurted, "I saw him going with the archer troop, lead by that one manly Martial God."
Lan Sizhui, "...which one...?"
Lan Jingyi, "...you know, it's that Martial God!"
Lan Sizhui, "Jingyi, you'll have to specify which one. There are at least four Martial Gods on the battlefield right now."
Lan Jingyi, "..." Right. How could he forget.
Jin Ling shuddered.
He traversed on the nearest cliff to the battlefield. He was at least over the height of the highest in a forest. At least the height of a volcano, he thought.
All of a sudden, a hand slapped him on the back. "Stand straight."
Feng Xin looked up ahead. His armour clanked to his every small movement, and every ounce of his muscles brimmed with vitality. Feng Xin truly embodied the look of a General at that moment. He looked like he would be wielding a heavy mace in one hand, used to clubber his enemies to their deaths. However, he didn't. He wielded a mere bow.
Jin Ling's shoulders shook. What is so important about the bow?
They could help deliver arrows at a far range... sure, Jin Ling couldn't help but roll his eyes. But are archers truly important on the battlefield? Am I even needed?
"We're here." Feng Xin stopped, with the troop pausing behind his domineering shadows.
They arrived at the top of the mountain. A cliff hung outwards, allowing the disciples and soldiers see the great scenery in front of them. They were really high above the ground. It made them feel like giants, watching puny ants fight for their lives.
"Take your stance." The disciples aligned themselves into a formation.
They took upon their bows, and attached an arrow to their string. Then, with straight arms and unwavering elbows, the disciples stretched the string, aiming the arrows at the battlefield. But then... they hesitated.
On the battlefield were their comrades. What if they accidentally hit an ally?
"Aim for the ghost soldiers at the back. There are less of your comrades there." Feng Xin commanded. "However, don't fire until I tell you to." His cape flew along with the harsh winds, as if the heavens were trying to blow him away. However, Feng Xin remained unmoved to the winds. He was a Heavenly Official; a Martial God. He could defy the heavens if he wished to.

Jin Ling also stretched his bow. He aimed at the ghost soldiers at the back, then held the string in place. His golden pupils wavered. Will I do anything...?
"You," Feng Xin noticed his hesitance. "What do you think you're fighting for?"
Jin Ling lowered his bow at this question. "I'm fighting for Qinghe Nie, aren't I...?"
"Exactly." Feng Xin scoffed. "But what are you pouring into your bow? What are you trying to accomplish? How many enemies are you planning to kill? Your ambition will command your weapon, and your weapon will bring you to victory."
Jin Ling imagined his friends. Lan Sizhui and Jingyi both had cool swords.
Of course, Jin Ling had his own sword, but Jiang Cheng wanted him at a further distance from the battlefield. Thus, Jiang Cheng assigned him to the archer troop.
Jin Ling thought to himself, It's just a measly bow and arrow. What could I possibly achieve?
Feng Xin could tell what he was thinking. He sighed, "All troops, drop your bows." The disciples followed their orders, but was puzzled.
"What are we doing?"
"Who knows?"
"I thought we were attacking?"
"What?"
Feng Xin glared at the amount of fifty disciples. "Look at your puny arms. They look like they'll snap in half if I even step a foot close." This statement had made the disciples flustered. "Allow me to make the first shot."
He took all of the disciples' arrows, then planted them on his bow.
Jin Ling was shocked. What is this General doing?
A total of fifty arrows were on his bow, and yet, Feng Xin managed to pull his string with utter strength. It seemed like the weight of those arrows meant nothing to him. "Watch carefully." His low commanding voice had muttered.
Feng Xin's figure was masculine and handsome. As he stretched the bow with his pure strength, light seemed to shine down upon him.
Jin Ling could imagine the halo above his head.
All of a sudden, the string was released. The fifty arrows ripped through the air, as if they could slash across the dimension of space and time. With pure and unrivalled speed, the arrows landed accurately onto the battlefield. The disciples watched, awestruck, as the ghost soldiers fell down and turned into ashes.
"General... you..." Jin Ling was stunned.
Every single arrow hit a ghost soldier... right directly in the heart! What kind of control and mastery does one need in order to do this..?
"Now, it's your turn." Feng Xin commanded. His low baritone voice made the disciples all want to kneel before him. He was General Nan Yang. He was their General at that moment.
The disciples took ahold of their bows, with passion struck in their every movement.
Jin Ling also felt an inextinguishable fire, burning in his eyes. No matter how long he held his breath for, the fire wouldn't stop flaming. He felt his insides burn with this unrivalled ambition. Jin Ling wanted to win... he wanted to win...! Win for Qinghe Nie! Win for the Four Great Clans!
Pei Ming sat in Yushi Huang's ox cart. He amusingly watched a horde of arrows fly out from the mountain, accurately knocking fifty ghost soldiers down into ashes.

"This is General Nan Yang's doing, huh." Pei Ming smirked.
More and more arrows flew out of the mountain, each burning with a fuelled passion. None of the arrows hit the Qinghe Nie disciples. They all accurately hit the ghost soldiers. This was the work of the disciples and Jin Ling.
Yushi Huang sat elegantly on the front seat.
She didn't need to turn back to look at General Pei. She merely faced him with her slim back, as if that was a barrier enough to mute his voice.
None of the ghost soldiers were able to bypass her barrier. They could only relentlessly watch, as the ox trudged past them with a sneer across his thick-skinned face. Yushi Huang didn't mind the usual bumps on the ox cart. She remained unmoved to the world and bloodshed.
Pei Ming held his breath. He watched the solid back of the Rain Master and felt at peace. He then thought, Could it be... we're on a date right now?
"General!" Wei Wuxian bypassed them. "As much as I'd like to keep on watching you two spread dog food, it's best if we focus on the battlefield!"
Little Apple gave a snort in agreement.
Pei Ming's face turned black. "Who said that we're flirting!"
"Nobody said that." Lan Zhan's cold face blurted.
All of a sudden, a teasing smile fell on Wei Wuxian's lips. "Could it be that General Pei thought of something...? Ho Ho Ho?"
"Don't steal my line!" Pei Ming shook his fist in anger.
The two shameless men got into an argument—faster than the speed of Pei Ming hooking up with a new woman.
Yushi Huang didn't even spare them a glance. She just thought, Immature kids. All of them are just immature kids. A small smile fell on her lips before disappearing.
The number of ghost soldiers had lessened. However, the enemies' fighting spirits did not waver in the slightest. Instead, the ghost soldiers continued charging. A Qinghe Nie disciple kicked a ghost soldier off of his torso, only to get bitten right in the ankle. He was stabbed right through the abdomen, and died.
As the ghost soldiers lost their numbers, they became more and more frantic.
Lan Zhan had an ugly expression. They're going feral.
The more ghost soldiers that Ghost Nation lost, the stronger they become.
On the back of Little Apple, Lan Zhan had an unknown premonition. He hurriedly took out his guqin, then played a string. Right in the nick of time, a ghost soldier had charged at him from behind.
The strings of the guqin had sliced through air. The power behind the strings had cut the ghost soldier into halves, burning him into flames.
However, another ghost soldier had clawed at Lan Zhan's sleeves.
With gritted teeth, Lan Zhan cut his sleeve off, then cleanly stabbed Bichen into the ghost soldier's mouth. In an instant, the ghost soldier turned to ashes.
Upon seeing this, Wei Wuxian's face turned dark. He took Bichen by the hilt. His hands accidentally touched Lan Zhan's, making the latter jolt in embarrassment. Wei Wuxian gave a quick smirk, then cleanly cut his own sleeve off as well.
"Look, we're both cut-sleeves now." He laughed.
In the back, Pei Ming, "..." Ho Ho Ho?
He turned to look at Yushi Huang, hoping for a reaction. Instead, all he saw was the woman's unfettered and unperturbed expression.
"Not even a reaction." Pei Ming sighed. He thought that the WangXian pair was amusing. But clearly, the Lord Rain Master didn't think the same as him—well, at least, she didn't show anything that might indicate her of thinking this.
All of a sudden, Yushi Huang swerved to the left.
Pei Ming almost landed face-flat into the ox's butt. His cheeks burned red with shame, as he blurted, "What's going on?"
Instead, Yushi Huang smiled. "They're here."
A ghost soldier snuck up behind Pei Ming, then threw a claw at him—instead, something pulled that ghost soldier back. He collapsed onto the ground, wondering what happened. Suddenly, a sharp pain clambered him on the spine.
The ghost soldier was stunned on the spot.
He turned his head around, meeting the sight of a snake with a scorpion tail. The scorpion tail directly stabbed into the ghosts' innards, sucking him dry with poison.
The ghost soldier fell into ashes.
In the far distance was a young girl. She had a short and petite figure, yet slender enough to show off her skinny skeleton bones. Her cheeks were hollow with hunger, and pale with ghostly aura. A gust of wind blew over, and the young girl's obsidian black hair flew in the currents.
The young girl wore black robes, covering her from neck to toe. She began chanting mysterious incantations.
The scorpion snakes moved to her bidding. Ban Yue opened her eyes, revealing two pair of black eyes, dark and sucking people in like a void. Her two arms were skinny like mere bones, as if she could fade away into dust anytime soon.
The scorpion snakes protected her, surrounding her in a circle.
Any ghost soldiers that neared her would be bitten brutally by a scorpion snake. A ghost soldier was bitten in the neck. His sword fell from his grip, but he persisted.
He threw himself at Ban Yue, with his claws stretched out to tear the little girl apart into pieces-
Instead, his head was cleanly sliced off. Pei Su didn't even bother to give him a second glance, before making sure that the young ghost girl was alright. One short, one tall. The two allies looked at each other, shared a silly smile, before going back to the battlefield.

Blue Hills
Nothing had ever felt quite right for Alexander Adamson. He'd worked his way up to a job he could tolerate, a few casual friends, and even a nice little apartment that he could call his own, though it really wasn't. The problem was that none of it was satisfying. It was as though he were going through the motions of a life, rather than having one of his own. Of course, it didn't exactly feel right when he woke up in a strange bed in the middle of nowhere. Nor when he was told that he was now the proud owner and operator of a local farm. A farm that had belonged to a late uncle he'd never known. But with the first train out of town a full 'season' away, he had plenty of time to get used to the idea. Plenty of time, perhaps, to even get to like the strange little town of Blue Hills. I have a discord now. Marvel at my ability to somehow still be antisocial on the other side of a screen! Back from hiatus along with my other fiction. Chapters are on a Thurs/Sun schedule until book 3 of that fiction is completed, at which point I'll be updating this daily. At which point uh.... I dunno what I'm going to do.
