《Release Me》Chapter 4

//EDITED//
I hate mornings. They're just so... morning-y.
I shut my eyes again. Just a few more minutes. A second later, my alarm goes off.
Ugggg!!!!!
I grab my clock and try to hit the snooze button. When that doesn't work, I throw it across the room. It hits the ground and the battery falls out, which at least makes it stop that infuriating sound. I roll around in my bed, trying to get comfortable. I stretch my legs out, and move my arms around, but can't find a comfortable position.
Great, now I'm not tired.
Letting out a deep breath, I get up. Slowly making my way to the bathroom, I notice that all the lights are off. The apartment also seems very quiet—too quiet. I walk into the bathroom and shut the door behind me.
When I see what's in the bathtub, I let out a bloody scream.
My back hits the door as I stare in shock. I'm shaking like crazy and I feel very sick. I also feel something else—is it guilt?
Yes, I felt guilty, because there, in my bathtub, is the body of the woman who was killed last night, right in front of me.
Finally able to move my body, I stumble out of the bathroom. Walking to the kitchen, I grab a cup of water, but as soon as I take a sip I spit it out.
What the hell is that?!
Looking down at my cup, instead of crystal clear water, I see a thick red substance. I automatically drop the glass and it shatters across the floor, spilling the substance everywhere.
Is it blood?
Bending down to touch it, my eyes widen. I quickly get up, still staring at the ground.
It is blood.
What the hell is going on?!
A cold breeze passes across my neck and I shiver. I rub my arms up and down to get rid of the cold feeling.

Why am I feeling so damn cold?
Shaking my head I walk around the kitchen to try and find my keys—to get out of here. Where the hell are they? My hands freeze when I hear a loud crack echo around the empty apartment. Slowly, I turn around. The noise came from the bathroom, where the body is.
As I'm a couple feet away from the bathroom I hear light footsteps. The steps sound a bit weird. My heart beats abnormally fast, and the shaking starts again. My forehead is covered in sweat and I'm breathing heavily. The apartment starts to look blurry so I close my eyes.
Come on Thea. This is just some crazy-ass prank, or better yet, a dream.
If it is a prank, I'm gonna kill the pranksters with my bare hands. Slowly opening my eyes, I spot a shadow coming out of the bathroom. Time seems to stop, as the shadow slowly walks out of the bathroom and down the hall. My blood turns cold, and my eyes widen as I see who it is.
It's the woman!
She still looks the same as she did on the day of her death. Her body is covered in blood, her clothes are torn, she has bruises and cuts all over her body, but the scariest thing is the big, round, bullet hole in her forehead.
I think I am gonna throw up.
As if she senses me there in the room, she turns around. Her cold, black eyes meet my green ones. Her face shows pure hate and rage, which scares me even more. She slowly makes her way towards me, and I start to back away slowly. Her movements are jerky and laboured.
"You did this to me"
No, I didn't. Could I have stopped it? Probably not; Could I have tried? Probably; Do I feel guilty? Yes, very much.
She let out a raspy chuckle.
"You're a murderer, Ms. Woods"
No, I'm not.... Am I?
Her lips curl into an evil smirk.
"And murders deserve to die"
With that, she lunges at me and plunges something into my chest, making me scream.
Black spots appear, and my vision goes blurry until I see nothing but complete darkness.

Re:Nymphs
A normal guy killed and reincarnated into a fantasy world born as the lowest but rises up to be one of the best.
8 68The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
