The scenery is thick with fog and dark as midnight as we stand on the hilltop near the cabin, we arrived at the safe house only a few short hours ago. Me and Leo stayed overnight at the hospital while Howard recovered, he is doing better but he's still weak. Ashley is clutching my hand as I weep with her.

The funeral is short, the only people in attendance are me and Ashley, Ricky, a bandaged Howard, and two bodyguards. Leo is one of them, I don't know the other.

I lay a single yellow rose upon the closed wooden casket; Howard is at my side with his hand on my shoulder. "Why couldn't I see him one last time?" I quietly cry into the air, wiping my tear-soaked cheeks.

Howard pats the closed casket. His voice rough, distant. "You wouldn't want to have seen him like this Ms. Emilia."

Everyone tells their stories about Aiden, I block them out. I'm not ready to reminiscence. I'm not ready to smile at fond memories.

I'm fucking pissed.

The guards lower the casket into the damp earth.

We bury the love of my life, at night, with the thick fog.
