《The Thunderbirds and The Phoenix》Prologue

The wind lashed at my face as my mummy and I ski down the mountainside. Daddy had stayed back at the cabin with his friend. Being the risk-taker I am, I ski around a couple of trees. Mummy follows me, but before I can move away from the trees, I crash into one. Stopping, mummy checks me over. It isn't a bad injury, just a nosebleed but it was enough for us to take a break. We see another pair ski towards us, a mother and her son. "Are you ok? We saw you crash." The lady asks.

"Phoenix is fine, just a minor nosebleed. Thanks." Mummy replies. The lady smiles before continuing down the hill with her son. Moments later though, the hillside starts to rumble. Looking up towards the peak of the mountain, we see an avalanche head towards us. Grabbing me, mummy tries to out ski the snow behind us, but she isn't lucky. Seconds before the deadly snow hits us, mummy covers my small body with her own body. Then the snow hits. It knocks mummy off her feet and sends us sliding down the hill.

Before we reach the bottom, the snow covers us, trapping us in an air pocket deep down. I scramble around for a couple of minutes before finally turning to face mummy. "It's alright baby, we'll be ok. Your dad will find us." She smiles. The cold starts to get to seep into our skin, making us shiver, waiting for a rescue to come. After a while, mummy doesn't look too good. "Baby, in probably not going to make it, but just know that whatever happens, I will always be with you, in your heart. Please don't let my death get in the way of a good life, my little firecracker. I love you... so... much...my... darling.... Phoenix..." Mummy's voice starts to fade, as her heartbeat gets slower and slower before stopping completely. I cry out, hoping for someone to hear. Hoping for a rescue.

Suddenly, I hear a sound nearby. It's a small cry. My curiosity gets the better of me as I start to dig through the snow, towards the sound. I break through the snow into another air pocket, like the one me and my mummy were in. It was the lady who had stopped when I crashed into a tree, along with her son. The lady had a smile on her face, but her eyes were shut. I crawl over and check her pulse. It was nonexistent. She was dead, along with my mother. I look towards the small boy. "Hi there what's your name? Mines Phoenix." I smile.

"Hi, I'm Virgil! I am dis many!" Virgil says, holding up 5 of his fingers.

"Well Virgil, I'm dis many." I smile, holding up 7 fingers. I keep Virgil talking and awake, in a desperate bid to save at least one life.

Thankfully, my tactic worked, and soon we heard voices. One I recognised, three I didn't. "DADDY!!" I scream with joy.

"Phoenix? Where are you, princess?" I hear daddy yell.

"OVER HERE!" I shout. I continue to make noises to help daddy find me. After a couple of minutes, the snow around us shakes, parting in front of Virgil and I, opening up to the outside world. Four sets of eyes land on us, one set being daddy's. I squeal in delight, rushing out the hole, pausing to help Virgil out, before rushing into my daddy's waiting arms. Virgil is scooped into a hug with another man and two boys, both looking around my age. My daddy pulls away and asks "Where's your mother?" My smile fades instantly and I point into the air pocket. Daddy's smile also fades, replaced with a look of urgency, and he dives into the air pocket, only to return with mummy in his arms. The other man separates from his family hug and comes over to me and daddy, grim look on his face. "I'm sorry for your loss Paul. Did you, by any chance, see Lucille?" He asks, hope shining brightly in his eyes. When daddy nods, the man rushes over to the air pocket. He returns, the hope gone from his eyes, carrying who I'm assuming is Lucille. The three boys gasp, rushing over.

The boys bombard their dad with questions but both daddy and the man set the two women's bodies on the ground, before stepping away, paramedics rushing over. Daddy shakes his head. "The women are dead, but these two children have been trapped in the snow with them." Daddy explains, pointing to Virgil and I. The paramedics come over to us and give us a check up, making sure that we're ok. Finally, they step away. "The children are fine, the boy was very close to getting hypothermia, but the girl is perfectly fine, a bit hotter than she actually should be, surprisingly." One paramedic explains.

"That's fine, thank you." The other man says, nodding his head in appreciation. The paramedics leave as us kids are called over to our daddies. "Phoenix, I believe you haven't met a colleague of mine, Jeff Tracy. These are his three oldest sons. Scott, who's 8, John who's 7, like you, and you've met Virgil, he's 5. There are two more boys, who are back at our cabin with their grandmother. Gordon, who's 3 and Alan who's not even a year old yet. You'll meet them later." Daddy explains.

"Boys, this is Paul Wren, a colleague of mine, and his daughter, Phoenix Wren, who's 7 like you John." Jeff explains to his sons. Then Jeff declares that we should head back to the cabin, where Grandma Tracy fussed over Virgil and I.

TIME SKIP!!

I awoke to the sound of a plane landing on the roof. Smiling, I ran upstairs, onto the platform, not caring if I was still in my pjs. I launch myself into the pilot's arms, pulling him into a hug. "Dad!" I yell.

"Hello my precious Phoenix. " Dad smiles

"How was your trip?" I ask.

"Same old thing, but I made a deal with an old friend, Jeff Tracy. You remember his sons, don't you? The second eldest is your age, Johnny Tracy, I think." Dad explains, hiding a smile.

"You mean John Tracy, the most intelligent student in my year, my best friend and the one who I see every day? Of course I know him daddy, you silly man!" I giggle.

"I know, I just wanted to hear you laugh, my dear. Anyway, Jeff wants to start up a rescue organization. I persuaded him to put it off a few years until his eldest two sons and yourself are of age and could help out." Dad explains.

"Dad! That sounds amazing! What will it be called?" I ask.

Dad explains "We've decided on International Rescue."
