《Purest Black》24 - Memories Can Really Ruin the Mood

"I take it you guys made up?" Jessica asked, laughing.
"More or less," I answered.
"I'm confused," a new voice said. I turned to see Haru looking at me from where he was laying on the floor. "Are you two together?"
"Yep."
"So, a human somehow managed to subjugate the princess of Angels and Demons? Isn't that a little backwards?"
I threw a pillow at him and it smacked him across the face. He picked it up and threw it at me, I dodged and the pillow flew behind me, hitting Peter.
"Kid," Peter said, smiling, "you're gonna regret that."
He took the pillow and threw it at Haru, but missed horribly and ended up hitting James. This resulted in a full out pillow war. I, of course, was the victor. I don't really know how you can be the victor of a pillow fight, but I was. Anyone who says otherwise was lying.
"Can I ask you something, Princess?" Haru asked.
"Sure," I answered. "Don't call me princess, though. Akira's just fine."
"Alright then, Akira. How'd you survive on earth? I mean, I know you got to earth with a portal from Heaven after the war broke out and everything, but how'd you survive here?"
"You had to go and kill the mood," I said, sighing. "Alright, story time, once again. When Zero and I got to earth, he carried me to the nearest village. I was only eight at the time, so I didn't really think of the consequences, and neither did Zero, who was desperate. Anyway, when we got there, a nice old lady took care of us for a while, without telling the rest of the village.
"After a few days, one of the village brats saw me and told his parents and they chased us out, pitchforks at the ready. Zero carried me on his back and we easily got away, but unharmed. One of them got me on the back of my leg and I couldn't really walk that well. Zero ended up carrying me for days on end until he collapsed from fatigue. Now, remember that he was younger, smaller, and weaker.

"Anyway, when he collapsed, we happened to be in front of a house. Thinking it was abandoned, I mustered up my strength and limped inside. What I saw was a younger looking girl. When she saw me she smiled and invited me in. She helped me care for Zero for a few days and then offered me a trade. My portal key for a way to hide my wings. I agreed.
"So, she got to work with a knife and carved lines into my back. After that she poured a little bit of some kind of dust on them. When it healed, which took a few days, I had these vine like tattoos on my back. I wasn't hard to figure out how to hide my wings, but I went out to practice one day and Zero came too. When we went back to the cabin, or where it was at least, the cabin and the witch were gone.
"After that, I got a few mercenary jobs to keep the food coming while we traveled. We've had a few...interesting jobs here and there but other than that, that's really it." "
"How about you guys?" I asked, motioning to Peter and the others. "I've never heard anything about where you guys were from."
"Jessica, Luke and I were all from the same village," Peter said, keeping his eyes on me. He came behind me and wrapped his arms around my stomach. "We have a pretty basic story for humans living during the species war. Our village was attacked by Angels and we were left to fend for ourselves. It wasn't that hard, actually. Hunting helped us train to fight and whenever we came across a village or town with supernatural problems, we'd help out."
James started talking now. "A few years into their 'helping out' they found me. I used to live with my parents before Demons came. Peter and the others took me around with them, sometimes by force. At first, I was pretty stubborn about staying by myself, but they convinced me."
"Hmm, memories can really ruin the mood, can't they?" I asked, laying down in my bed. "Goodnight."
I closed my eyes and thought about the time is spent on earth. It'd all be over soon. The question was, was that a good thing or a bad thing?
