《Purest Black》3 - Against My Will

"Umm... I'd just like to say that this could be considered kidnapping," I said, just about tied down to the cart I was laying in.

"Your legal guardian approves," Zero said.

"You stopped being my guardian when I turned eighteen, and I don't even think that was legal. You're kind of considered a pet."

"So," Peter said, interrupting our chat, "how about you start telling us about demons."

"Not Angels?"

"If you know about them, we'd like to know that to."

Luke was up front, steering the cart, while Peter, James, and Jessica were sitting in the back with me. Zero was happily trotting along besides us.

"Where to start?" I asked myself. "Alright, how about this. Angels and demons are species, not a specified species of good or evil. They started when the animal and the humans started, at the beginning. But, their history's a bit different. The Angels started as beings that strongly believed in helping others, or the majority of them did at least. Throughly history, they've only had one King, Michael."

My papa.

"The Demons, on the other hand, didn't start as strongly as the Angels. Most demons struggled to make a living, or even live for that matter. After years of death, a single Demon stepped up and took control. Terra, the Queen of Demons. Alright, today's lesson's over."

"That's it?" Jessica asked.

"I don't really feel like teaching anymore today. My back's starting to hurt."

"Here, let me see," Jessica said, reaching for my back. For a second, I naturally flinched, having been a mercenary for a while and all.

With a gentle hand, she tugged at the back of my shirt. I was laying on a blanket, so stop think perverted thoughts, you pervs. When my shirt was off, she unwrapped the bandages.

"You might need to see a real doctor about this," Peter said, running a finger over the cut and sending shivers up my spine. Truthfully, it wasn't that bad of a wound. Just a small puncture in my shoulder, it still hurt like hell though.

"It'll be fine," I said.

"If you say so," Jessica mumbled, digging for something in her bag. For a second, my heart raced, fearing what she was going to pull out. Then, I reminded myself how stubborn these humans were on helping me. That, and I had a demon hound watching very closely from the sidelines.

"I'm still going to put some disinfectant on it, just to ease the pain and help with the healing process." I hadn't noticed before but her voice was very calming. Soothing almost.

Without asking for my permission, damn human, she placed a little jar besides my head and applied some of the mixture on my back. Her hands were surprisingly gentle, for a demon hunter, and the mixture didn't sting. Actually, it made my back feel cool and relaxed.

"What's in that?" I asked.

"Fire mushroom, lucifer's flower, and Angels jaws."

"Aren't those all poisonous?" I asked, a little less than alarmed. I'd dealt with many poisons and, as a demon, they didn't have much affect on me. Still, I kind of wanted to know why my saviors were poisoning me.

"Alone, defiantly, together, not at all."

Slowly but surely, her hands went from applying the mixture to massaging them in. I accidentally let outa small moan as my muscles relaxed and caught Peter chuckling besides me.

Before I could say anything, James spoke up. "Where'd you get these tattoos?" He asked, running a finger along one of the curly marks along my back.

"Your very touchy feely people, aren't you?"

Smiling, happily, he took his hand away.

"They're just...tattoos," I say.

Acknowledging that I don't want to talk about it, no one says anything else.

"It's getting dark," Luke says from upfront. "I'm gonna stop at the next town and see if I can find an inn."

"I don't know if going through town is the best option," I said as Jessica helped me pull my shirt back on.

"Humans don't tend to like me," Zero said from outside. "Kinda like when we first met. Only, with less sharp weapons."

"Haven't we apologized for that?" Peter asked.

"I don't believe you have," I said.

"Well then, we're sorry."

"Apology not accepted."

"Can we get back to directions?" Luke cut in. "We can deal with wolf girl later."

"Where's the nearest inn?" Jessica asked, then glanced at Zero and I. "Preferably one out of town."

James jumped at the opportunity to be useful and pulled out a map. Tracing his finger over a specific area, he tapped a single place a few times.

"Right to the north of the town."

Nodding, Luke turned the horses so that the cart turned a bit to the left. See, this is why I don't carry maps. I have the hardest time telling the difference between north and south. Going by nose, and I mean Zero's, is just a lot easier.

"I never did ask," I said, "but where're you guys headed?"

"Wherever," Peter replied, casually. "If there happens to be a demon, sometimes even angel, problem, we do our job and get paid for it."

"Wanderers, huh?"

"We live the carefree life."

"I bet you don't make much money on that," I said, smirking my devilish grin. Though, the evilness of the grin was canceled out by my 'not really being able to move.'

"How many people do you think are willing to do this?" He asked, through a, surprisingly, carefree laugh.

"Not enough," I said, completely ruining the joy of our little conversation.

"You were affected by the Species War too," Peter asked, watching me closely. The Species War was the most common name for it.

"You have no idea," I murmured.

We sat in awkward silence for a minute before James spoke up. Thank God for happy-go-lucky humans.

"What'd you do after the war? I mean..." James looked at his hands, guilty playing with his thumbs.

"Well, Zero and I took mercenary jobs. We were paid muscle," I replied, not caring too much about answering him.

James' eyes widened with so much excitement you'd think he was a three year old.

"I was most of the muscle," Zero said from outside.

"And I did everything else, like all the work."

The little group of travelers burst out laughing. Come on, I know I'm awesome, but it wasn't that funny.

"We're here," Luke said.

Everyone got out of the cart, seemingly forgetting something.

"Hey!" I yelled. "What about me?"

"Sorry about that," Peter said, taking my hand and helping me up. He wrapped my right arm around his neck, which was a bit awkward with our height difference, and took hold of my waist with my free hand.

"Watch the ass," I said, glaring at him.

"Wouldn't dream of it," he said, laughing under his breath. "You have no sex appeal anyway."

Even Zero laughed at this. As we walked, I nailed Peter in the back of his leg, making both him, and myself, stumble. He tripped, slightly. I seemed to have forgot that he was the only thing keeping me up.

"What don't you just put me on Zero's back," I said as he tried to keep me up.

"What? Not having fun?"

"As much as I enjoy being insulted, my knees feel a little weak."

Zero stepped closer and kneeled down, allowing me access to his back. Peter helped me up, grabbing my ass in the process.

"I knew you thought I was hot," I said.

"Shut up, it was an accident."

"Aww, your shy. How cute."

"As fun as this is," Zero grumbled below me as we reached the inn, "I don't appreciate being around during your little lovers quarrel."

We both laughed at him. When Peter stepped inside, he earned small glances from all the women. When Zero and I stepped inside, we earned gasps from everyone.

"We win," I said.

The others, James, Luke, and Jessica, were up front talking to the inn keeper. They kept motioning to wards Zero and I until Jessica made her way over, a frown on her face.

"Sorry," she said. "The old shit won't let Zero sleep inside."

"Well, if Zero's sleeping outside so am I."

"Your in no condition to sleep outside," she said.

Ignoring her, I tugged Zero's fur and he took us outside. We found an empty stable and collapsed there, me on top of him. I closed my eyes and let sleep consume me, until I was rudely interrupted.

"Hey," James said. "Can I sleep in here with you guys?"

"Sure, if you can make room."

Smiling, like usual, he buried himself by some hay, close to Zero's snout.

And, finally, I let-

There was a noise, once again, from the door of the stable. The other three were standing there.

"Do you mind if we-" Jessica started.

"Make yourself at home. Now, before I try to sleep again, why're you all here."

"You looked lonely," James replied honestly.

"I could never let a young lady sleep alone," was Luke's.

"In case anything happened to your condition over night," Jessica said.

"Felt like it," Peter said.

Letting out a sigh, I turned into my stomach and fell asleep. Wait for it... Okay, this time, I actually feel asleep.
