《The Second Chance (GirlXGirl)》Chp. 16

I was meeting Trevor at a local lounge, a lot of the campus students went and hung out, so I knew exactly where it was. Trevor had asked me to meet him there, and I knew it could only be one reason.

He needed someone to fill in for his show tonight, and I was obviously the only one for the job.

Me and Trevor had, had countless guitar lessons over the past month and I had learned some of his songs that he played. He texted me the line up and told me to practice it on my free time and notified me I would be playing rhythm guitar tonight, which I had no problem with.

I studied my outfit before heading out the door, Trevor told me to incorporate red in my outfit and I complied. I had a laid back kind of rocker chick look going on, and I liked it.

I placed the black guitar into the case, smiling at it newly polished frame. I had actually spent an entire hour cleaning it.

I picked my phone up, sending a message to the oh-so absent Devon, “PLAYING AT THE LOUNGE TONIGHT FROM 6-8, HOPE YOU COME…”

Then I was out the door.

I made it in no time, studying my reflection before entering and meeting immediately up with Trevor.

He smiled, “Thank God you could make it,” I studied his face, he was ecstatic. His dirty blonde hair spiked in a rocker kind of way, not in one of those Mohawk forms, but you know what I mean. his dark red V Neck shirt clinging to his body, overlapped by a leather jacket, showing off those muscle…

He was attractive.

“Well you gave me the guitar so it’s the least I could do Trevor.”

He laughed, and guided me over to where I would be, “We’re going to be playing relaxed tonight, no rocking out. Our goal is to make people drink, eat, and relax, so you’ll sit here, we’re doing sound check in a few.”

He looked flustered, and I smiled, he was nervous. He told me he got like this every time before a show.

I mean I was nervous to but I was in the background, I wasn’t mainstream like he would be.

“You’re singing backup and one main song, hope that’s ok.”

I snapped my head towards him, “What? No, I’m not singing alone? You said I would be backup!”

He shrugged, “You owe me, besides, the song will sound better in female tone. I know you sing, Devon told me.”

I rolled my eyes, Dammit. So guess I wasn’t going to be in the background as much as I thought I would’ve been.

What if I forget the words? What if I forget the chords? What if they don’t like the way I sing? I didn’t want to get Trevor and his band boo-ed off of the stage…

Now I was crazy nervous.

Trevor’s hand found my shoulder, pulling me out of my panic attack, “Hey, you’ll do fine. You know all of the songs, it’s just for tonight,” he smiled, and he had me with that. I couldn’t argue with that cute ass face begging me.

“Okay.”

He clapped, scaring me a little, “Ok, sound check everyone!”

Singing backup was really no problem, it was easy, I knew all the harmonies already. I had every song down by heart, even the one I was going to sing in a bit.

I glanced at the clock on the last note of the song, it was already, 7:45 and Devon was nowhere to be found.

It hurt, knowing that she didn’t come and support me for this, it was my first time actually doing this and she wasn’t here. She was probably in the dorm working on a paper, or hanging out with Emerson… God forbid.

Then finally I was up, and I was nervous as all get out.

Trevor clapped at the end of the this song, slinging his guitar behind his back and waving his hand towards me, “Our next song is ‘Unanswered Questions’, performed by Amanda Phillips, give it up.”

Everyone started to clap, and I stood in front, glaring at Trevor for making me do this. I was nervous, my hands were sweaty and already aching from playing songs for two hours straight.

Good thing was my voice was going to sound great.

I heard the music start behind me, the slow and calm melody flowing through the room, and I started.

“I remembered that night like it was yesterday, I admitted I loved you, and you pushed me away…”

I loved this song, Trevor had written it years ago he claimed but it wasn’t until he formed the band that he really created the song itself.

It spoke about having all of these unanswered questions throughout life, it was actually about a heartbreak he went through. He filled me in all about it when we practiced, and it was a sad situation. The song was so heartfelt, it sounded so good to, with the slow rhythm and the striking chords.

It was my favorite out of all of them, and of course he chose me to sing it.

I scanned the room as I continued to sing, and my eyes locked with Samantha, I rolled my eyes.

Of course she was here.

Then the door opened, and I snapped my eyes towards it, seeing Devon walk in with Emerson, hand in hand right when I finished the last line of the song.

“Would you go back if you had the chance? These are the things I ask… all the unanswered questions…”

She heard it, and it was like I was speaking directly to her. Her gaze was locked with mine as the music ended and everyone clapped, some even whistled, and I felt my face blush and turn red. Trevor was at my side, “Give it up for Phillips!”

Trevor turned off the mic and looked at me, “You did… absolutely amazing Amanda. Thank you, you get a cut tonight, the restaurant pays us some if people come in.”

I nodded, smiling, “No problem, thanks.”

Then he was gone again, heading to the back to help take down everything that was set up. I pressed my guitar into the case and closed it, feeling a twinge of pain in my heart. Devon barely even got to see me or hear me play, and the last line… well it obviously caught her ears when she heard it was my voice.

I pulled the case up, and started walking towards the door to go and put it in my car so it would be one less thing I had to worry about.

I felt the cool night air wrap around me as I heard the door close behind me and I hauled my stuff to my car. I unlocked it and slid it into the backseat and when I turned around I was face to face with Samantha.

She smiled, “You did so good, I didn’t know you could do that!”

I backed into my car feeling slightly afraid, I nodded, “Thanks.”

She let her fingers travel up my arm, and she whispered, “It’s sexy… and it turned me on, and I want to know why you haven’t returned my texts.”

It should be obvious, I’m fucking avoiding you. You’re creepy and I think you’re stalking me.

No I can’t say that.

I shrugged, “I’ve been caught up with music and school…”

She locked eyes with me, “And Devon of course.”

I rolled my eyes, “Samantha, me and Devon aren’t together. I’ve just been busy…”

She pressed her body against mine, leaning down towards my lips, “That’s a lie and you know it…” I studied her face, she was definitely trying to seduce me, and it was kind of working. She was wearing a dress, showing off those sexy legs, her red lips looking so delicious…

She was sexy for a crazy girl.

Then her lips were on mine, mouthing me hungrily, and it was passionate, but I didn’t want her. I had told her this so many times before…

I pulled away, “Samantha…”

She sighed, “You’re just making this more fun for me Amanda.”

I rolled my eyes, “How’s that?”

She pressed her body against mine more, placing her hands on both sides of my head. I was against my car, her face inches from mine, and I was nervous.

She smirked, winking at me, “Because I love a challenge.”
