《Scarlet Wolf》14- Not My Blood

I walk into our apartment, and find Isa in the kitchen. She had earbuds in, dancing around, making a sandwich.

"They say I did something bad, so why'd it feel so good?" She sings, spinning around, her eyes landing on me. She immediately blushes, and stops dancing.

I smile at her. "Don't stop on account of me, you looked like you were having fun."

"I don't like dancing in front of other people," she mumbles.

"Well I think it's cute. You should keep doing it," I reply. In retrospect, this was probably not the best thing to say to make her less embarrassed, because she just blushed even harder. At least she was smiling a little now. Her smile dropped, however, when she glanced at my hand.

"You're hurt again!" She exclaims.

I look down. There's dried blood on it, from earlier. I must not have wiped it all off.

"I'm not hurt. It's not my blood," I explain.

Isa shoots me a look. "Your note said you were going to Ced's, not on another job."

"I wasn't on a job. I was just at Ced's," I say, washing my hand in the kitchen sink.

"Well then what happened?" She asks.

"I was sparring and the guy said some sexist things, so I punched the dickin the nose. Nothing too unusual. Ced hates sexism, racism, or any form of discrimination, so he doesn't care if I hit assholes."

Isa nods. "Okay, I guess. I'm just glad you're not hurt again."

I smile. She's so sweet. "Thanks."

I make my own sandwich and sit down across from Isa.

"How was work?" I ask before taking a bite of my food.

"It was good. I helped this really cute little boy find a book for his friend and he hugged me! It was adorable," Isa replies, smiling.

"Cool," I say. "Are all your coworkers nice?"

"Yep! Especially the one who recommended the book series I've been reading. His name is Brian. I think you'd like him. He's almost as sarcastic as you, and he's really funny."

"That's good. I'm glad you're making friends."

Isa glares at me. "It sounds like you're treating me like a kid. You're half a year older than me, not 10 years."

"Sorry if it sounded like that. I just remember how nervous you were around me."

"That was because I had just seen you kill someone," Isa says nonchalantly.

I raise an eyebrow. "So it doesn't bother you?"

Isa shakes her head. "No, not really. Also, how do you do that?"

"Do what?"

"Raise one eyebrow. When I do it I look like a troll, see?" She says, screwing up her face and raising her eyebrows.

I burst out laughing. "Sorry, but you do kind of look like a troll. A cute one though," I say, and Isa blushes. "Anyway, I don't know how I do it, I've just always been able to do it."

"Whatever. I can wiggle my ears."

"Really? That's super cool! Can you show me?"

Isa gets a concentrated look on her face and I watch her ears. The move back and forth, wiggling.

"Okay," I say. "That's super cool. Absolutely useless, but still cool."

Isa grins. "I know. I'm just that awesome."
