《Pen Pals {MXTX}》38- Another windy day

Wei Wuxian: "...!"
Lan Xichen: "It's because..."
Wei Wuxian leaned forward in his seat, his eyes encouraging Lan Xichen to continue.
Jiang Wanyin: "..." Jiang Wanyin picked up his coffee cup and took a sip, bored.
Lan Xichen: "It's because Wangji's at his music competition today!"
"..."
Jiang Wanyin put down his cup of coffee. He shoots Wei Wuxian a glance.
Wei Wuxian: "Ha, I knew- wait what?"
Lan Xichen smiled, a bit confused. "Wangji's at his music competition. He told you he plays the guqin, yes?"
Wei Wuxian waved a hand. "I heard you the first time. But WHAT?" Wei Wuxian pushed himself up with his palms pressed on the counter.
Lan Xichen shrank back a bit. "..."
Lan Xichen: "What, what?"
"He could have just told me!" Wei Wuxian exclaimed. "He could have just told me! There's probably more to this right?"
Lan Xichen scratched his cheek. "Oh, I don't know, I just know Wangji is at his music competition event today." He shrugged at Wei Wuxian, his eyes expressing he knew nothing more.
"Aw, then you don't really know. What if Lan Zhan actually got abducted by some aliens and that's why he didn't text me but all of us just thought he was at his music competition thing and so we won't be looking for him until it's too late??"
Lan Xichen cupped a hand under his chin. He then pointed at Wei Wuxian. His eyebrows furrowed and he took his hand back under his chin.
"Or," Jiang Wanyin said, "He just couldn't care more to text you. It's not like you guys are super close right? You guys are just penfriends. You guys haven't even met yet."
Each sentence was a direct hit through Wei Wuxian's back.
Wei Wuxian turned to Jiang Wanyin, trembling. "J-Jiang Cheng. That was so mean... You're so mean..." Wei Wuxian clutched his heart with a hand.
Jiang Wanyin looked like he couldn't care less as he took another sip of his coffee.
Lan Xichen nodded. "That was a bit mean, Wanyin."
Jiang Wanyin: "..."
Wei Wuxian: "See, this is why no one likes you."
Lan Xichen: "Ah, that's not true! I like Wanyin."

Jiang Wanyin: "..."
Wei Wuxian: "..."
Wei Wuxian: "Alright, that's my cue to leave. Have fun, bye-bye."
Wei Wuxian left a shocked and frozen Jiang Wanyin in the cafe.
As Wei Wuxian walked away from Cang Qiong's shopping mall, he paused and- "Hey! That felt like déjà vu! First, Luo-xiong and then Jiang Cheng! Who's next, Hua-xiong???" (Make a yes chain lol)
"Ugh, Lan Zhan, if you've been abducted by aliens, send me a sign!" Wei Wuxian hollered into the sky, ignoring the weird glances he was getting from the few pedestrians on the street. Then the boy sighed and kicked a rock on the ground.
"Wei Ying?"
"...!"
Wei Wuxian looked up.
"!! You!?"
"...Wei Ying?"
Wei Wuxian's eyes widened.
It was a windy evening. And the boy standing in front of him, with the white scarf around his neck blowing because of the wind, it was no other than...
Lan Wangji?
But...
"Hey, you're that guy I bumped into that day!" Wei Wuxian said, shocked.
It all made sense now!
Lan Wangji wasn't abducted by aliens! Boy, was Wei Wuxian glad.
Lan Wangji's light-colored eyes slightly widened. He seems to remember that day when a guy randomly screamed at the sight of a puppy and jumped onto him for help. And clung to him like a koala.
Lan Wangji: "..."
Wei Wuxian: "..."
Lan Wangji: "You are Wei Ying?"
Wei Wuxian looked at Lan Wangji. "Yeah. I am Wei Ying. And you are Lan Zhan."
Lan Wangji: "Yes."
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji stared at each other.
Lan Wangji was holding a cup and his phone in the same hand. Wei Wuxian had his hands inside his (Hua Cheng's) jacket pockets. Both boys' hair was blown by the increasing wind.
Wei Wuxian: "Um... Want to follow me back to the school?"
Lan Wangji: "Okay."
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji resumed walking down the street.
Barely a moment of silence has passed when Wei Wuxian said, "Oh! You still have to tell me why you didn't pick me up!"
Lan Wangji: "Okay."
Wei Wuxian: "And I won't forgive you easily! You better have a super good excuse!"

Lan Wangji: "Mn."
Wei Wuxian: "..."
Wei Wuxian: "You are really dull in real life too, you know that?"
Lan Wangji: "...no."
Wei Wuxian laughed. "Fine, tell me why you didn't text me earlier."
Lan Wangji: "Okay."
Lan Wangji: "Are you cold, Wei Ying?"
Wei Wuxian: "Heyyyyy. Don't try to change the subject!"
Lan Wangji: "Wei Ying."
Wei Wuxian: "Lan Zhan. Alright, just tell me why you couldn't text me."
Lan Wangji: "Wei Ying. My phone broke."
Wei Wuxian: "..."
Wei Wuxian: "What?"
。。。
。。。 (1 vote = 1 person enjoying this chapter. Because that's all voting is. ;D) (okie, end of commercial break.)
。。。
Wei Wuxian: "What? Your phone broke?"
Lan Wangji: "Mn."
Wei Wuxian: "Let me see."
They stopped again and Lan Wangji handed the phone to Wei Wuxian.
Lan Wangji's phone was indeed broken. The screen was shattered so badly that Wei Wuxian was to be careful not to get a paper cut from the broken screen protector. (Unlike a certain 15-year-old girl.)
"God, Lan Zhan, how'd you even get it like this?"
"..." Lan Wangji thought back to that one incident two days ago. That involved the kitchen, Xie Lian, and Shi Qingxuan. And a chair. And a balcony.
"...There was an accident."
"Huh. Are you not going to get it fixed then?" Wei Wuxian asked. They started walking again.
Lan Wangji nodded. "I was. (But then I saw you.) I will get it repaired tomorrow."
Wei Wuxian whistled. "I don't know, Lan Zhan, you might have to get a new phone altogether. It's pretty damaged beyond repair."
Lan Wangji: "Mn. Doesn't matter."
"Haha, I envy you, Lan Zhan. I don't think I can go an hour without my phone."
"You can try limiting your screen time."
"No, I can't! My phone's like my baby, look," Wei Wuxian reached into his pocket to show Lan Wangji his phone.
Wei Wuxian stopped walking.
Lan Wangji: "?"
Wei Wuxian: "Shit, I think I left my phone in the cafe."
Lan Wangji: "Go back?" he offered.
"Yeah! Let's-
Wei Wuxian nearly forgot what he left at the cafe. No, not his phone but an extremely awkward situation to be in for any other person.
Wei Wuxian chuckled awkwardly. "I'll get it tomorrow. You said 'limiting my screen time'? Let's start now."
Lan Wangji: "...okay."
They resumed walking again. Wei Wuxian clapped his hands together. "Oh! We can go together tomorrow then. There's a phone repair shop on the third floor of the mall I think. Plus, it'll be nice to see your brother, won't it?? And also do you know how surprised I was when I first saw your brother? I thought your brother was you, the person I bumped into in front of Lan An's pet shop! Only for a moment though. You guys looked alike at first glance but you two are too different! And anyway, it's such a weird coincidence that you were the guy I bumped into that day. You were really cold then you know? But then again, you didn't know it was me. You'll probably act nicer if you know it was me right??? Anyway, are you surprised that guy was me?? I kinda wish that that wasn't the first time we met, I wasn't my best then. I really don't like dogs."
The moment Wei Wuxian stopped to take the time to breathe, Lan Wangji said, "It's okay, Wei Ying."
Wei Wuxian nodded and he continued talking. To which Lan Wangji listened intently.
The two boys soon reached Qingfeng.
⭐️⭐️
"See, this is why no one likes you, Jiang Cheng."
"Ah, that's not true! I like Wanyin!"
"..."
"Alright, that's my cue to leave. Have fun, bye-bye."
Wei Wuxian left.
Jiang Wanyin: "..."
There was a moment of silence.
"Ah, he left his phone here," Lan Xichen said after a while.
Jiang Wanyin remained silent.
Then- "What kind of like?"
Lan Xichen: "...?"
Jiang Wanyin was staring at him, his face almost as red as the red velvet cupcakes the cafe offers.
Lan Xichen smiled.
"What do you think, Wanyin?"
And then before anything else could happen, Aunt Luo popped out of nowhere to tell Lan Xichen to get back to work because she was not paying him to flirt.
(There might be a part 2.)
This should explain my lateness. (There's a 5:00 am and 5:28 am too 😔)
It's school y'all :(
Anyway, thank you for reading, and I hope you have a nice day or night!
