《Pen Pals {MXTX}》9- One rainy day (Part 1)

The dismissal bell had rung.
Kids chatter as they pack their bags and head out of the class.
Some students stayed back to chat. Others head to after-school clubs. And some got after-school detention.
"It still looks like it's gonna rain," Wei Wuxian grumbled, "I wanted to go fishing!"
"We can do that next weekend," Luo Binghe suggested, putting his folders in his bag.
"Okay!" Wei Wuxian perked up. "I guess I'll just go to the arcade today, wanna come?"
"I'll pass, I got something to do today," Luo Binghe replied.
"Aw, that's too bad," Wei Wuxian frowned.
"How was the arcade yesterday?" Hua Cheng suddenly asked.
"Huh? It's fine, I got a lot of high scores!" Wei Wuxian said proudly.
"But I can't beat your high score on the Battle of Gods," Wei Wuxian frowned again.
"I can show you how to beat my score," Hua Cheng said gently.
"...really?" Wei Wuxian squinted at him in suspicion.
"Sure," Hua Cheng said.
Then he smiled at him.
"..."
Wei Wuxian turned to Luo Binghe with a complete terrified look.
"Luo-xiong!" he whispered panicky to the boy, "Did Hua-xiong got possessed or something?? Why is he being nice?! That smile is creeping me out!"
Hua Cheng: "..."
Luo Binghe laughed awkwardly, zipping up his bag.
"Just go with Hua-xiong," he told the other boy. Then he walked out of class, leaving the two boys alone.
"... Hey, Hua-xiong, is it just me or Luo-xiong been busy almost every afternoon?" Wei Wuxian asked.
"You don't have to worry about that," Hua Cheng told the boy, "alright, let's go now."
"Waitttt, ack, you don't have to drag me, I can walk-!!!"

...
"Guys, want to go shopping with me??" Shi Qingxuan asked excitedly.
"Er, I have to go somewhere today," Shen Qingqiu replied.
"Oh that's fine, but Xie Lian! You should come with me, I saw this wonderful dress the other day at the mall and I think it will fit and look just right on you!"
"Oh, uh, huh??" Xie Lian stammered.
"Come on, Xie Lian! I can even do your makeup!" Shi Qingxuan encouraged.
"Oh, uh, I don't think I want to wear a dress," Xie Lian said flustered, his cheeks flushed pink.
"Aw, that's too bad," Shi Qingxuan pouted but he didn't pester.
"But you should still come with me! You can help pick out outfits for me!" Shi Qingxuan then says with renewed joy.
"Okay," Xie Lian agreed.
"And are you sure you don't wanna come, Shen Yuan?" Shi Qingxuan asked the other boy.
"Yes, I'm sure," Shen Qingqiu replied, hauling the strap of his bag across his body and waving the two goodbyes.
He grabbed his umbrella from the stand on his way out the door.
"Oh well," Shi Qingxuan shrugged, "Welp, let's go then, Xie Lian!"
With that, Shi Qingxuan dragged Xie Lian to the mall.
...
Shen Qingqiu stepped down the stairs of the school and left the courtyard.
Leaves drifted past him, the wind blowing gently against his face.
The skies above were a shade of grey.
Shen Qingqiu walked down the street passing the comic store.
The pet store.
A ninety-nine-cent store.
A bakery.
Then a drop of water hit his face.
Shen Qingqiu swings the canopy of green silk over his head, the rain tumbling on top of the roof.
Shen Qingqiu continues walking.
He passed a restaurant.
Then he stopped.

He turned around and stepped into the alleyway between the restaurant and a postal office.
The alleyway was dry and covered by the two large buildings, and therefore, Shen Qingqiu brought his umbrella down and closed it.
There was a two-unit recycling bin against the wall.
On the other side a tall, round vase stood still, empty within the inner.
Shen Qingqiu walked over to the side and peered behind the clay vase.
A pair of bright startling eyes blinked up at him.
"There you are."

The Adventures of Alan
What happens when a university professor somehow ends up in another world, where magic bends the laws of nature? Alan is, albeit unwillingly, about to find out. As a professor of physics, he has a decent understanding of how the world works, or so he likes to think. Armed only with his knowledge, Alan is thrown into a world very different from his own. In his new reality, he will meet both friends and foe, he will seek knowledge, he will build power, and perhaps he will even find love again? Follow Alan through his adventures, and find out for yourselves how he deals with the challenges thrown at him by a new world, while struggling with the issues brought with him from his old one. * Author’s note: A fair warning. This is the first time I’ve published anything, and basically the first time I’ve written anything more than mandatory school-stuff. The story will probably have inconsistencies, grammatical errors (not my native tongue, though that excuse is getting old), and potentially confusing (missing?) plot. I will naturally do my best to write something worth reading, but my main goal in writing this story is to have fun and explore the limits of my own creativity. My hope in publishing it here, is that I’ll reach someone who enjoy the story, and can push me forward towards writing more, as it is difficult at times to find the motivation to write just for myself. Additionally, I can’t really promise to have regular updates, as I have a full-time job that often likes to take the ‘full-time’ part literally, and a sporadic social life that occasionally surprises me (happy surprises mostly, so I shouldn’t complain). I’ll aim for once a week to start with, and take it from there. Happy reading! Cover photo by Jeff Hire (/photographer/gun4hire-58415), from https://freeimages.com/.

Contact First
2039 - Earth A narrow beam energy signal appeared aimed squarely at earth from the TRAPPIST system. The communication consisted of a layered set of repeating data over several thousand wavelengths. Over the next few months scientists discovered that the lower wavelengths carried an encoded numerical language which could then be used to interpret the more complicated messages carried on the higher wavelengths. After half a year of painstaking work the signal was fully decoded. It described a small satellite launched along a precise trajectory towards the fourth planet of our solar system. Included was a package of advanced research that humanity would need to have ready in order to receive the satellite and decelerate it safely. The alien data provided the kick that humanity needed to turn from petty squabbling and unite to explore the final frontier. Major government and corporate leaders worked together to create the framework for the United Federation of Sol. UFS spaceports went from scaffolding to daily launches in every major city around the globe. Ships floated like dandelion seeds, spreading on solar wind to grow into colonies. 2397 - Mars orbit, Egeria Station The command center was a hive of activity as checks were conducted and systems initialized. Scientists flitted by like mayflies as communicators beeped and holoscreens spat out green tinted readouts. Nervous energy was thick in the air as everyone anticipated the culmination of over three hundred years of work. Massive fusion reactors under the planet's surface thrummed with barely restrained power as energy fed into a gleaming metallic maze criss crossing the planet. Metal fingers reached up, overshadowing the mighty olympus mons and trying to grab the stars. All over the solar system, people quickly turned to look as gigantic energy lances shot from the dusty fourth planet. Two years later. The same people that clapped loudly at the successful activation of project Hermes now wait with baited breath. A silver capsule trailing bright photonic sails is captured by a net of grav beams and guided with care bordering on reverence into the station. Holoscreens across the headquarters project an image of the sleek craft settling in the bay. Data connections are established and the holoscreens blink to white. Slowly an image forms on the screen. Across the headquarters people stare in wonder as a wholly alien face stares back. "Contact established. Welcome to the universe."

Murderously Disturbed
This collection chronicles the horrific contents of my brain in poetic form. This is not for the faint of heart. It contains terrifying moments of murder, suicide, mayhem, rituals, hauntings, and nightmares in various poetic forms from ballads to sonnets and many more. Most of these pieces are oneshot tales, but the "Haunted Blades" ballad sequence is marked with an asterisk (*) throughout the collection to denote an interconnected series of poems.
