《The Reject》Chapter Eight - Never Too Late (FINALLY!)

As soon as I was woken up by Ashley the next morning, I was running around setting everything up. And yes, I was using my WW Speed when no one was looking. We were currently setting up the grounds on which we would be training the kids, teens and a few adults too.

No one cared to help of course.

Not that we needed their help, anyway.

But still, they could have just asked.

Whatever.

I had my hair in a ponytail and a side bang. Hair kept falling on to my face and it annoyed me but Ashley…

Anyway, we had now finished the training grounds. It had a lot of exercise stuff, and we had already marked the forest trees. It’s to see how fast the wolves can go. We had marked the trees to show them the way, and since I’m the fastest, I’m going to be standing at the end of the racetrack, in a small clearing with no trees to see who’s fastest.

Grey, Sam and Troy had also set up wireless cameras on the trees to check on them.

While Ashley and Lily would seeing the computers screens showing what the cameras were observing, Sam and Troy would be running near the teens in case someone got hurt. Katie would be like a host and keep updating the people about the wolves. Grey and I would be racing each other to the clearing before the race began and after he had explained the rules.

There are gonna be many obstacles like trees, fallen trees and well, what do you know, trees. But they are enough. There are also gonna be many hidden traps that I set up. I had tied a thin rope between two trees so that they trip. Old, but effective.

Another one was the water in the bucket hanging from the tree.

Grey had sent me to check the surrounding of the racetrack for rogues or Hunters. After all, it was a long race and it was also in the middle of the forest.

Right now, we were on the training grounds and the race would begin as soon as Grey had explained the rules. He was on the little stage they had set up and my pack was beside him. I was scanning the crowd in front of me for a certain someone who wasn’t even there. I bit my lip.

”I hate him.”

Whoa! My wolf was finally talking to me. You see, our inner wolves were like our... advisors. They only talked to us when we needed guidance or when we feel lonely. They’re useful during battle.

But I don’t need guidance and neither am I feeling lonely, so why is she…?

I was interrupted when Grey started introducing us.

“This is my pack: Sam; our Beta, Katie and Lily; our personal guidance councilors,” To which some laughed and some gasped when Lily and Katie each punched one arm of Grey. They would think they were disrespecting the Alpha but we were more than just a pack; we were each other’s best friends. And before I get cheesy, let’s move on to what happened next.

“Ashley; our “Fashion… fashionista,” I had to keep reminding Grey how to say fashionista since he kept messing it up, he did it on purpose though, just to tease Ashley. ”Troy; the most romantic mate you’ll ever meet, Lily’s words, not mine, and finally, our beloved Pack Warrior, Je- uhm Al! Allyn!” Which earned many gasps.

“Come to a new pack and you’ve already forgotten my name” I teased Grey and my pack laughed.

Grey then started explaining the rules, ignoring my teasing which made us laugh even harder even though we were trying our best to control it. Grey’s ears were turning pink, which did not help our case.

A few who noticed were giving us weird looks but the teen girls and many others were too entranced by Grey’s beauty and powerful aura paid us no attention. He did look rather handsome today. His blue eyes were shining with amusement by how we were teasing him on stage. He may act embarrassed but I just knew that he enjoyed seeing us so happy. That’s just the kind of Alpha he was. No, that’s just the kind of friend he was.

When I was too busy staring at him, I didn’t notice myself stop laughing and start smiling. He had begun explaining the rules and I noticed him cross his arms behind his back; our signal to get to positions.

We all quickly climbed down the stage. Ashley and Katie made their way to the computers, Sam and Troy followed me into the woods. “Okay guys, let’s pretend to be spies.” I grinned at them and Sam rubbed his hands while Troy gave a low whistle.

“I am so Agent One!” Sam grinned, making me and Troy laugh. “Agent White.” I said and Sam’s reply made Troy laugh again. “Now, don’t be racist, little White Wolf.” I pouted and said “I’m Agent Wolf, then.”

“And I’m Agent Leo.” Troy said.

“Are you guys done playing spies?” Katie’s amused voice sounded in my head which made me blush. We all muttered our yeahs and see you laters and went on our ways.

I went halfway through the track and waited for Grey. He’d promise to race with me.

A swift breeze went past me and I had barely heard the “Race you” Grey had said. I laughed, growled and ran after him. We both were laughing on our ways there and I’m sure Ashley and Lily were, too.

It was a tie between us. We both sat down and made no sound so that we could hear them when they come. I put my head on Grey’s shoulder, knowing that it would take about ten minutes for them to get here.

“What do you think is gonna happen when I see him?” I mumbled. He knew who I was talking about. “You be strong and resist the pull. He doesn’t deserve you after all he’s done. None of them deserve our help, either.” I closed my eyes and replied quietly “That’s not true. The kids haven’t done anything wrong. Even if the adults deserve punishment, the kids don’t and that’s exactly what’ll happen if we don’t help them. They’ll get punished by the Hunters for no reason.”

“Just like you were punished by them?” my breath got caught in my throat when he said that. “They are not any better that Hunters, Jess, they… they beat you up even though you were in their pack. They were supposed to help you and keep you safe. To me, theyare worse than Hunters.” Grey looked so angry and frustrated when he talked about me being hit.

Without thinking, I hugged him, tight. I kept muttering thank you as I closed my eyes. “You have no idea how glad I am that I ran away, Grey. If it weren’t for you, I’d be dead.” He froze and I quickly added “I bet it was our destiny to meet… even though you gave me a concussion.”

I just laughed and kissed his cheek when he began giving his string of excuse about how he didn’t know how weak I was. Somehow, they change every time. Once he said that he hadn’t had breakfast so his sense of smell wasn’t so good. We stopped laughing and froze when we heard running from a distance and a twig snap. We both stood up and sniffed.

“You didn’t tell me that a pack was joined here, by the way.” I shot him a playfully accusing look which earned me a sheepish smile. He rubbed his neck “I uh forgot?” I just stuck my tongue out at him and reached for my lollipop when I noticed it was gone.

“Ashley!” I muttered under my breath. Oh, I am so going to kill her!

We could hear legs running about 50 feet away. They would be here in about 40 seconds. They are slow.

“So tell me about school. Are we gonna have same schedules?”
