《The Reject》Chapter Five - Blown Away

Shatter every window 'til it’s all blown away,
Every brick, every board, every slamming door blown away
'til there’s nothing left standing,
Nothing left of yesterday
Every tear-soaked whiskey memory blown away,
Blown away ~ Blown Away – Carrie Underwood
Jessie’s POV
It’s been six months since the attack, six months since I first shifted and six months since I started school. And five months since my seventeenth birthday. The guys got me a professional camera because they wanted me to “be the memory girl who always takes pictures of important events in the pack”. And I did that too. My whole room is filled with pictures of my family. My new family.
There are pictures of Sam and Katie, Ash and Grey, Troy and Lily, and me. Some were of us laughing together, some were of Grey grumbling (he never stopped doing that), some were of Lily or Katie frowning cutely at their mates, some were of Ashley, usually texting. We all were in it. And I loved it. The camera is probably – no, definitely the best gift ever.
We haven’t trained any packs, yet. They all doubt us. Well, I would doubt a pack of teenagers that say that they’re trained, too. But we are completely ready. And since we’re ready, training feels like playing in a kid’s playground these days.
And I have no idea how but my reputation in school has turned into “the badass girl who should not be messed with”. Okay, I do know how that happened but I swear that it was Tom that squeezed my butt at the party and it was a reflex to break his hand! Not my fault at all. In fact, it was his because he couldn’t keep his hands to himself.
So I usually stick with Sam, Troy and Grey in school. The girls tried to make me come with them with the other human girls but I have a bad past with groups so I denied.
As I walked through the hallway, some still whispered about me –which is not new but at least they don’t trash talk me- and some just minded their own business –I liked those people. I was listening to my iPod with the volume turned down because of my sensitive hearing. It felt good to walk with the beats.
I was wearing jeans shorts with a black top and jeans vest that Ashley made me wear. I’m not that much into fashion. I’m closer to Ashley than I am to the other girls but we still are real close.
I hair was left alone after my shower which resulted in “curls that look like they have been styled”. Lily’s words, not mine. This school is filled with humans as we are the only pack in this town.
I walked towards my locker with Grey by my side. And no, we are not dating and never will be. That would feel like marrying my brother… and I don’t even want to think of doing “it” with my brother! In this case, Grey!
“Why are you making your face like that?” Grey asked me, looking up from his phone. He was trying to win the Angry Birds level that I had passed long ago. “I thought of something disgusting.” I replied taking his phone and completing the level.
I gave it back to him and stuck my tongue out. He just grumbled. I rolled my eyes while grinning and reaching my class.
“Bye Grey!” I waved to him and he did the same before I walked into class and sat on my seat. Halfway through History, half of the class was asleep except for some nerds, and the others were whispering or texting. I was chatting with Ashley through our mind link. She had Mathematics and was bored as well.

“I don’t think that Mrs. Hilson is talking in English.” Ashley told me.
I looked at our History teacher, Mr. Jackson, who looked like he was gonna fall asleep himself but he always looked like that.
“Mr. Jackson looks like he’s gonna sleep.” I said while staring at the old guy sitting on the desk while reading words I have never heard before from the textbook.
“He always looks like that.” I’m sure she rolled her eyes when she said that. I shrugged and looked around the classroom again. The bell rang and we all jumped out of our seats to exit this room.
“Guys, I think we have a witch in the school.” I said to everyone through the link. They instantly perked up.
“What? Are you sure?” Grey was the only calm one while the others were probably running towards me.
“Yeah, she must be the one that has put a sleeping spell on my History classroom.” I said in a matter-of-factly tone.
”I almost believed you!” I turned around and grinned at Ashley as Sam caught up with her. I winked “That was the plan!” Ashley rolled her eyes while smiling and Sam tried to ruffle my hair.
I moved quickly –not in abnormal speed due to all the humans around us- and dodged him before running towards my next class. I made sure that I turned around and stuck my tongue out at him before disappearing in the crowd. I was the fastest in the pack due to being a White Wolf.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
As the bell rang I ran out the classroom towards the cafeteria. I was starving and didn’t even bother to put my books in the locker. I’m sure that if anyone from my pack stands next to me, they’d hear it grumble. Like Grey. I couldn’t help but let out a chuckle at that thought.
Gosh, I can’t wait to see him with his mate. There will be a lot of complications, of course. Like, she can’t be in our pack even if her mate is. Not until she’s classified as a Fighter, which I’m not counting on. Not everyone gets their mate when they turn eighteen. That’s rare.
So, he won’t be able to be with her all the time which will be sad but I’ll give him company (not like that). I mean, I can’t be with my mate, too. I don’t want to be with him, either. I don’t think that I’ll ever forget the times he hit me, pushed me, ordered me and everything else. He is not a good Alpha-to-be.
I shook my head out of my thoughts and focused on my food which wasn’t so delicious anymore. I cursed my old pack. They won’t let me eat even though I’m a hundred miles away from them! Okay, I’m not that far from them but you get the point!
I had already finished half of my burger when Troy and Sam joined me, with hair that was no longer combed and clothes that were not so neat anymore. I could also smell their mates on them. I groaned as I said “Gross! I’m eating, guys!”
Troy just grinned and Sam stole a French fry from me. I pointed to his hand and said “I really hope that your hand’s washed. ‘Cause if not, I’m gonna puke all over you.”
As he ate the French fry I said “No, I won’t bother doing that. You know what, I’ll just keep my distance when you guys look like that.”
“Oh, loosen up Jess! We just kissed.” Troy told me and I looked at him like he had grown two heads. “Did you just tell me to “loosen up”? I think kissing your mate has messed up your mind, Troy!”

He rolled his eyes and Sam asked me “Are you gonna eat that?” while pointing towards my half eaten burger. I shook my head and pushed it towards him. I was not hungry anymore and all because of my old darn pack! I didn’t realize I was pouting until Troy flicked my bottom lip. “What happened?”
I shook my head again and mumbled “Nothing.” He just said “Uh huh.”
I started muttering curse words that weren’t exactly bad. As I was cursing Troy by calling him “That little sarcastic-“ “I can hear you, you know.” He said looking bored. That just made me more mad at him so I threw a French fry at him, ignoring the “Hey!” that Sam gave me.
That was when a mini French fry war started at our table. It was fun but in the end we ended up with French fries stuck in our hair and our clothes. We didn’t even know that the whole cafeteria was watching, some were even taking videos.
“That’s for the prank you played with my bed!” Troy yelled as he threw a French fry at me. “Oh, yeah? This is for messing with my shampoo!” We were standing now.
“You added pink hair dye to my shampoo! That was just revenge!” Another French fry “Oh, your revenge was so creative, copy cat!”
“Copy cat? What are you, five?” two French fries “At least I don’t hide Hershley's's under my bed!” A French fry in my hair.
“They are Maltesars! Not Hershley's!” I stopped throwing French fries and him and stared “So you do hide chocolates under your bed?”
“Uh... no?” I threw another at him while yelling “LIAR!”
We were stopped by the bell. We both collapsed on the chairs as we laughed out butts off. Sam and the rest of the pack was looking at us with amusement. “What?” I gasped out.
Sam shook his head as he put his arm around Katie’s shoulder and walked out the cafeteria. After laughing me and Troy hugged each other and went to the bathrooms to clean up.
As I removed another French fry from my hair that doesn’t have “curls that look like they have been styled” anymore, I realized that Grey wasn’t there to stop the fight this time. He wasn’t in the Cafeteria at all.
“Grey, where are you?” I tried to talk to him through the mind link but didn’t hear anything back. I got worried and hurried (that rhymed!) to get cleaned so I could find him. What if something’s wrong? It probably isn’t because he’s the Alpha of the strongest pack in the world after all. As if reading my thoughts Grey’s voice filled my mind.
“I’m fine. Don’t even think of trying to find me. I’ve just gotten news from the palace. Get the pack, meeting near the big tree behind the school, now.”
I nodded my head even though he couldn’t see and wiped my hands with a tissue before running out the door towards the nearest class that had a pack member in it, which was Ashley’s. The reason I’m not calling them through the mind link is because they don’t know the tree that Grey was talking about.
Grey and I stumbled upon it while we were talking and thought that it could be our secret place. I don’t know why he wants me to take the pack to the secret place. It’s not like I don’t trust my pack or anything but I’m a hundred percent sure that Troy and Lily, Sam and Katie, Ashley and her newest boy would use it for un-appropriate reasons.
I knocked on the classroom door before opening it. Some people gasped as they saw it was me and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. They’re acting like I’m carrying a gun. My eyes quickly found Ashley sitting on the desk at the middle of the class.
“Can I help you, Miss Moon?” Mrs. Jenkins asked me. “I uh yes, please. I’m here for Ashley Thea? It’s a um family emergency!” I said quickly.
She shot me a suspicious look before asking me “And what is this emergency, Miss Moon?” I racked my brains for a good excuse.
“Um it’s her mom! She uh… she’s in labor! We need to hurry, Mrs. Jenkins, or she’ll be too late to see her um sibling enter the world!” I tried to be dramatic. “Why would you stop a girl from seeing such a wonderful being enter the world?” I then realized that what I said made me think of gross mental images.
“I mean, uh, she doesn’t have to see that! Uh… oh God, this is so embarrassing.” I mumbled the last part. I could hear students laughing. Even Mrs. Jenkins had an amused smile on her face.
“Can she just come, Mrs. Jenkins?” I gave up. She nodded with a smile before motioning for Ashley to go. I’m never gonna hear the end of this. As we ran towards Sam’s class, Ashley asked me “What was all that about?” She was trying to run while trying to control her laughter.
I glared at her as I said “Grey’s got news from the palace. There’s a pack meeting behind school.” She nodded as her face turned serious but she still had a smile. News from the Palace means it’s important.
This time I told Sam about the pack meeting through the link. I didn’t want to embarrass myself more. We both could hear him making an excuse about pain in his stomach. I rolled my eyes. He is just so creative sometimes. As soon as he came out we started running towards Lily’s class.
“News from the palace. Pack meeting.” That’s all I had to say for him to understand why we had to get out of class. When we finally got the whole pack except Grey, of course, I showed them the way to the tree. And I also warned them that they should never ever come here to do un-appropriate stuff. And I also threatened them that if they do, I’ll play the most brutal prank I have ever played on them. That scared them enough.
“So, why are we here?” Sam asked as we reached the tree under which Grey was leaning on. Okay, I must admit that he looked hot. “I heard that, Jess!” Grey smirked at me as I stared open mouthed. “Well, I just thought that your jacket was good!” I said out loud, confusing the rest of the pack. “Darn you, mind link.” I thought to myself.
“Uh, huh. And I heard that too.” I so wanted to wipe that smirk off his stupid face. But instead of going violent, I settled on glaring at him.
As soon as all our attention was on him, he immediately turned serious. The Alpha face. “The palace had contacted me today. They have told me about recent hunter attacks.” Our moods immediately turned sad and angry. We of course haven’t forgotten that day. How could anyone?
“There are a few packs that are in need of warriors.” He looked at all of us in the eye, but we didn’t cower like a normal werewolf would. After all, we weren’t normal now, were we? Alpha tones, Alpha stares or glares, nothing scared us. We knew that we could take an Alpha down if we wanted to.
“This would be our first time training a pack. We need to make them strong. We were, after all, born for this.” He smiled and we couldn’t help but grin back. “But to ensure the safety of families with children in them, we are going to start with the bigger packs.” His face showed anger for a moment before it became emotionless again. Nobody noticed of course, only I could because I know him so well.
“Why’s he being so formal?” Ashley’s voice filled my mind and I ignored it because I don’t think I was supposed to hear it. She’s let her guard down again.
“We will have to leave our personal matters behind and work on training them so that they can fight the hunters if the time comes. The children will be trained as well.” I immediately opened my mouth to say something but Grey beat me to it “Yes you can train them, Jess.” I grinned widely before it turned into a frown. I hope that the time for the children to fight wouldn’t ever come.
“We hope so, too.” Katie said to me making me realize that I had forgotten to block my thoughts.
