《Wings of the Republic》Brothers' Keeper

The flushing of the big toilet continues (referring to anyone who support the Islamists) - Fleet Admiral Albertus Sugijono, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff/Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces (2040-2045) upon the start of World War III.

Just another day with paperwork, only for an interruption in the form of a knock.

"Come in!"

"Sir" It's Major Jusuf, promptly stood in attention and saluted me.

"At ease, I presume you come here for an important report."

"Not just important, this is urgent. And it's related to that possible spy here in the 11th that you had reported through the chain of command, with his role abetting the active shooter back then in Larestan and possibly compromise the big op."

I remember that along with the active shooter, I also gave the chain his report that mentioned some disturbing statements by him. The assailant was three months later captured by Iranian police and in their custody.

"Very well. Good job"

I gritted my teeth upon reading the printed report and realized all the time that the spy is in front of my nose almost all the time and a very professional one with a good fighting record so far. "It's time to take action."

That night, surprise roll call I called, the entire squadron, including ground crew.

"It's come to my attention for a while now that we have a spy in our ranks, and it's time for everyone to know the truth."

"You!" I pointed my hand on one certain man.

Captain Maulana Yusuf.

"I know that it's you who lead that shooter back in Larestan." I snarled, wanting desperately to pull out my service pistol and shot him straight ahead without a need for a military judge, an authorized procedure since the Civil War.

"That's correct, Colonel" he replied dryly, placing the gun on the base's tarmac in a show of surrender. "So you know about me."

"Indeed. You might think that before I becoming the CO in this squadron I and Colonel Jusuf let you scot-free with your antisemitic statement, but the truth is I've forwarded it for investigation, below the radar. And the result is this fact... that you are with the GRM that people are talking about, Captain. This is beyond any non-judicial punishment available at my disposal.. and so, MPs, take him away!"

"Yes, colonel". The alerted MP units, as Pandawa being a joint base the detachment was manned by all three services, immediately tackled him into the ground before he could cause any more trouble.

"Wise! Remember this! The World can't wait! You people are the pawn of the..."

"You can explain it in the brig, captain, so shut up!" barked one of the MPs as his squad led Maulana away from his fellow squadronmates which turned their back against him.

...

Pandawa

Things immediately returned to relative normality and now the mood is excitement for the new offensive.

"Three days more, ladies and gentlemen. Just a few more steps and the UCC will be history," said General Kim in his video-briefing. "Six hours before the main landing, we are going to strike them from behind, and this where the Task Force 808 will do its part. A massive Coalition combined airborne and seaborne assault is soon to be held in these following locations; Aden, Al-Hudaydah, Dubai, Al-Ain, Nizwa, Jeddah, Port Sudan, and Dammam. This operation will play a critical role in ensuring the success of the main event, Operation Poseidon. Your mission is to provide support for the airborne troops. Destroy any of their AA and SAM system as well as any aircraft interfering with the parachute drop. Last but not least, civilian casualties should be minimized. That's all. 808?"

"First in, last out!"

The briefing then went on with more details; the 11th Squadron will be assigned to UAE, backing KOSTRAD 17th Airborne Division (enlarged from a brigade under 1st Infantry Division in 2043 with the addition of new volunteers and qualified conscripts), as well as the Iranian 1st Marine Brigade and finally, a British-Dutch-German amphibious force (plus a pro-Coalition Arab brigade) in a combined nighttime sea and air assault on Dubai. Meanwhile, the Indian 50th Parachute Brigade will land at Al-Ain, near the formerly UAE-Oman border and hold any UCC forces from Oman and Saudi at bay.

Northern Yemen was assigned to the Pact forces with Russian 65th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade and Chinese 1st Marine Brigade as the spearhead from their base in Somaliland.

And so we have our time to learn and be briefed about our part in the operation.

"Dubai, Colonel!" Pandu exclaimed upon the conclusion of our squadron briefing led by me. "I always want to see Burj Khalifa for myself, honestly."

"Hold your horses, Cosmo," Evelyn told him.

"Too bad we're going to visit it in a war, at night." Nana sighed as he's reading the tactical plan. Coalition forces in Iraq will ensure their attention was focused on them and will execute carpet bombings against their forces in the Northern Saudi to make sure that the UCC believe that the main thrust will be from there instead of from the south.

"If it goes down the damage of the city will be catastrophic" Andik told us.

"Hope it won't happen" Kalla said.

"People like him are rallying the population into battle while staying in their safe hideouts underground while both civilians and soldiers on both sides suffer because of their insanity," I told all of them.

"That's the reason why retaking Dubai will sent those people a message; their days are numbered" Todo answered me.

Gandiwa barged in on our conversation.

"Ladies and gentlemen, may I join in?"

"Of course Gandiwa."

"Well, Colonel. I just want you and your wingmen to know this. Our intel officer gave this paper to me." said the battle-manager as he gave us a clandestine newspaper. "That guy, Major Yusuf, were made to promise by the members of the Free Arab Legion along with POW escapees fighting with them that he will give it to you all."

I read it. On it, the insignia of 11th Squadron was shown. Somehow they had managed to get a photo of it. Or more likely, their allies gave it for them. But what really shocked us was that in the newspaper was an article, in English, talking about my actions, which brought hope and happiness to each and every just person, even in the region completely submissive to the Caliphate, like Saudi Arabia and Sudan. The last page was covered with support phrases addressed to him and other pilots of the Coalition, saying things like "Long life to the Angel of Azrael and his followers!", "We're counting on you!", "Thank you for giving every breath for us all!", and "The Coalition is our hope, but especially you, Angel of Azrael. Thank you!"

"Colonel?" Evy asked me as I rubbed my teary eyes, digesting the fact that I and the entire Coalition had such support and faith from people including those on the other side, and they didn't even know me in person.

Along with Rinjani Squadron, we are to be accompanied by the German and French squadron, as well as Iran-based fighters and drones that we could count at any time. Furthermore our duty will be air cover to strike fighters from Shiraz that will conduct CAS for the airborne and amphibious forces. In the meantime Coalition navy aircraft will come from the following carriers, French Richelieu and the third Queen Elizabeth class carrier commissioned in 2031, HMS Ark Royal (R10).

The Army 17th Airborne Ranger Division "Kujang I", forward deployed in Shiraz will assault Dubai alongside Air Force Paskhas 462nd Commando Battalion which will seize the Dubai International Airport to make way for air assault forces and heavier equipments, while the 18th Division "Trisula" (Trident), based in Somalia since December, are to be dropped in Jeddah along with Malaysian 10th Paratrooper Brigade plus its Singaporean attachments.

Furthermore we have been told that for sake of keeping things right a special multinational Muslim-only battlegroup has been assembled out of our 18th Division plus Malaysian, Filipino and Singaporean paras for a planned assault on the Two Holy Cities proper as well as a similar unit from the Indian and Russian Army.

Securing several bridgeheads in Oman and Yemen will be the task of the following unit; US 82nd and 101st Airborne, Imperial Iranian 55th and 65th Airborne Brigade, and 3rd Commonwealth Airborne Division plus Japanese 1st Airborne Division and Korean 2nd Airborne Division in reserve.

The Pact got their share as well alongside northern Yemen, with Sudan's port area was given as a target for Chinese 43rd Airborne Division while the Russians dispatched the element of 98th Life-Guards Airborne Division into Chad and Central African Republic.

For sake of a peaceful future of my children I am willing to live by the sword. And I can feel something slipping by each day I downed drones. I no longer care how many Arabs and other Middle Easterners lost their lives... God help me.

...

The sun was just starting to crest the horizon when I led the element of Task Force 808 entered Dubai airspace ahead of C-133s, A400Ms, and An-126s carrying members of the "Kujang-I" 17th Airborne Division with their armored vehicles. Behind the transports manned and drone jammers teamed together, conducting their wide-area electronic attack.

10 miles from the city's airspace HQ had updated us about pathfinders have been inserted in the vicinity of the city.

"Line has been cleared, combat and decoy drones have been deployed. ECM in full power. Operation Coronet is go, I repeat, Coronet is a go. We're liberating Dubai!" said AWACS Gandiwa.

"Thunder 1-2, roger, Let's move and engage"

Evy is my wingman today, for sake of giving other Majors their flight leader experience. I am glad for her being in high spirit so far.

"Gandiwa to all units, assume attack formation. Take 'em all."

"Thunder 1, moving to engage"

"Thunder 2, engage!"

"Thunder 3, ready!"

"Thunder 4, engage!"

"808, this is Kujang lead. We're now entering the designated airspace. We're counting on you." spoke one of the Indonesians transport pilots as they appeared on radar a couple of miles behind the joint task force.

"Roger that. We'll clean house for you guys." I hollered as we split our force for better all-around coverage.

"Silber lead, wilco." replied the allied German leader.

"Horizon lead, we're breaking, heading west." said the French flight commander.

"This is Captain van der Busch from the HNLMS Rotterdam, we're entering the Gulf with the landing force at full speed. Our escorts are engaging the enemy missile batteries in the coast and the artificial islands as well as the one in Oman, but we're counting on your support, air unit."

"This is amphibious landing vessel Dixmude, your support is essential here, otherwise the landing operation will fail!"

"We'll be counting on it."

We would clear out the first section of the city while Rinjani squadron will aim straight for the international airport, the German and French would destroy any UCC forces in the other sections. And judging from the number of units in each section, this operation won't be a walk in the park.

"First, attack any AA and AShM launchers positioned at the city. You can worry about any fighters and drones afterward," ordered Gandiwa as we began their attack on the SAM, Laser AA, and AShM units stationed around the coastal area of Dubai and the islands with our AGM-90s supported by British and French carrier fighters as well as a lot of SEAD-optimized kamikaze and decoy drones launched from ship and transport aircraft orbiting the Gulf from the safe distance.

"Gear up, Para Raiders! You've gotta jump or you're worthless! If you're hesitant, you will be left behind!"

The first group of transports full of Indonesian Para Raiders got closer to Dubai just as Thunder 4-1, Major Pakpahan destroyed the last SAM unit in the port area and moved on to the AA units stationed within the city itself as I keep playing with the screen, designating target for allies as well as Kamikaze drones while flying the plane.

"Thunder 3-1, fox four.."

"Thunder 3-2, slash.. splash one drone"

"Use that wish for revenge to get fired up and castrate those crotch-lovers for good! Understood? Go get 'em!"

"We're the best! Hau...Hau...Hau!" shouted the Kostrad paratroopers.

Ngiiing...

"Fox three!" I painted a pair of Su-57s for a radar missile shot on course for the transport, and they paid accordingly.

"Fox four!" Evy broke left and caught four drones in a vector towards the transport, vaporizing it all with tactical laser in two minutes even with their maneuverability then went back to formation, before I called her about such.

"There is once a community of our countrymen and women here," said Timo as he's observing the view upon him and his leader, Thunder 2-3 Chemist downed four more drones.

"Watch for ambushes" Kuk, Thunder 2-2 warned, while from the lower altitude regime my radar caught the signature of friendly Iranian and Dutch F-35s bombed more targets in the city in support of the initial landing force in conjunction with the British and French carrier jets.

And that's when things began to turn nasty.

"Wait! I'm getting readings from multiple parts of the city! All aircraft, scatter!" said a French Navy pilot with callsign Marlin 1-1. Our sensors showed that something was going on.

But the French's call for evasion came a little too late as six volleys of reddish pulse-laser rays filled the sky from well-concealed Laser AA turrets inside the city area. All aircraft spread out to evade the death wave, but two bursts converged to an Esprit and disintegrated it instantly. Just like what Yoel saw in their first foray into Riyadh.

"Marlin 2-1 is down!" reported a French Navy pilot. Then I saw below mine an F-35 which was attacking a rocket artillery position got hit by the laser beam and burst to flames.

"We lost Homa 4-1!" called one of the Iranian pilots.

"Bloody hell, these bastards are good in hiding those things from our sats!" groaned a Royal Navy pilot inside his F-35E.

"Keep your throttle up, the turrets got trouble tracking target faster than Mach 0.8 thanks to our ECM!"

Furthermore AWACS warned that multiple low altitude contact was detected, a combination of drone and manned fighters, ready to shoot down any craft that managed to evade the laser cannons.

I swerved through two buildings and before a turret managed to fire its laser at me, I took it out with pulsed laser cannon. Then I climbed and took down two drones until two JF-20 jumped me. One of them told his wingmen on the radio, his message intercepted by our side.

"He's here," said the pilot. "We're facing the Angel of Azrael!"

"Is he for real!?" asked an HA450 pilot. "Doesn't he know what this beam can do?"

"Idiots! They know better about directed energy weapons, you must know that..." snapped his leader.

French Horizon Squadron followed by a pair of British Lightnings fired their salvo of THELs to the fighters chasing the Indonesians. Most of them dodged the death ray but a couple of Helwans and four Saegheh drones were shot down. After designated another laser turret for the Luftwaffe to knock it out I attacked two new oncoming Su-35s with my Diamondbacks, all were shot down in the first attempt. Meanwhile, Evy gracefully engaged two more Flankers, which she then destroyed by pulling a Kulbit and fired a long burst of pulse-laser cannons at them.

"Horizon 3-2, slash" one Esprit took down two drones with its own PLS followed by his leader, then the Germans added up their kills.

"Horizon 2-1, fox two!"

"Silber 1-2, slash, slash, slash"

Our autonomous UAVs are also making their own life miserable as well as they flushed out their drones into the range of ours, or we designated targets for it while we focus on manned fighters.

"Even with Aulia's AI the drones are too small in number to make the difference.. we need backup! Shit... missile!" called a JF-20 pilot, before Marlin 1-1 shot him down.

"Warning.. we detected oncoming Saegheh exploding drones formation. Impact point will be displayed in your HMD, stay out from the danger zone!" warned AWACS Gandiwa.

"Scatter!" warned the flight leaders as the controller began its dreaded countdown.

"5..4..3..2..1.. drone explodes!"

The IF-36/37 are built with sturdiness in mind even with the new suite of avionics and extensive usage of recycled materials. Still, the resulting shock of the explosions was enough to shook the entire airframe.

The exploding drones were followed by another wave before it ended, probably because they don't have enough of it, but now we detected ten Su-75s headed towards Dubai from the northeast, aiming at the F-35s, Esprits, and A-11s circling the city in attack duties. The Chukars were intercepted not far from Burj Khalifa and taken out by Thunder 1-2 and 1-3 before they could arrive. And the copied Russian fighter's fate was not different with Luftwaffe Silber 2 flight took them all down.

"Stirbt!" (die) shouted Silber 2-3 as he shot down the last Su-75 that surprisingly managed to damage his wingman with cannon fire.

"Für Deutschland, Für Freiheit" (For Germany, For Freedom) exclaimed Silber 2-2 as he shot down two more drones, even with the fact that his Hailstorm had been hit by several cannon rounds.

I dare to say that I am impressed with the Germans as well as other European allies of ours with their aggressive flying style. They've seen wars like us, and at stake, civilization.

Allied radio chatters indicate the skies are fast becoming ours. Nevertheless, the AEW then ID'ed a new set of air targets. This time I forwarded the information into the French carrier folks as we shed altitude to strafe what was left of the enemy air defense network and armored vehicles with the help of drones on our way as transports are only 3 miles into the drop zone.

...

"Uwaah!! Where are those infidels come from? Release the drones!"

We know what it means.

"Here come the drones!" hollered Genesis, in which I am her wingman, as we went closer to the airport. Approaching from the neighboring city of Sharjah we went straight into the area, forcing the enemy to respond with their drones earlier than expected.

"Get them off the transport!" called Gandiwa.

"Missile away!" Red Cap, leading Rinjani 2 with Kanjeng as his Wizzo launched two missiles aiming for enemy vehicles on the runway as well as any container trucks that housed the remaining not-yet launched drones followed by the rest of his flight.
