《The Two Billionaires》Chapter 23

My head hurts, I can barley try to look out of the window without wincing, my left hand is wrapped in a thick cast, great now a broken hand is a bonus for me. I fought against my senses, trying to overlook my deep desire to curl up into a ball and

fall asleep

I could not dare fall asleep, until I see my best friend walk through the door and smack my head calling me stupid, or hug me and ball her eyes out.

I groaned as the pain in my head increased,

the nurse looked up irritated, she did suggest some painkillers to reduce the pain. But I put my foot down and refused them. Don't get me wrong I'm not pretending to be some kind of Macho manwho doesn't feel any pain. The thing is if I fall asleep and Gwen needs me, I cannot help her. I don't believe for one second that this was a random attack, once I see her safe, let the nurse do anything to me.

Fifteen minutes ago Chris, walked out of the door muttering something along the lines of dragging the stubborn girl down here. I hope he does bring her soon.

People often mistake our friendship, they all thought we were lovers with commitment issues that's why we go around with the term best friend.

The truth is, neither of us feel something like that. True we were attached to the hip in highschool and college and well University, and yes you mess with one of us, wish the person death before they encounter the other. Above all this we will and always be best friends. I will never find another like her, and a relationship is something neither of us thought or will think off.

The door opened and I heard a small patter of footsteps, Gwen stuck her head through the door and peeked at me with her blue eyes. I cleared my throat hoping she would get the hint and get closer.

She shuffled into the room and sat down on the chair next to me, looking intently at her shoes.

I rolled my eyes at her behavior and asked "Are your shoes more interesting than your dead best friend?"

Gwen looked up suddenly, her blue eyes

narrowed and hit my hand, causing me to wince.

"Don't joke about dying."she warned her expression promising pain if I even breathe in the wrong direction.

"I'm sorry." She whispered, in a small voice

choking down tears. If I wasn't listening so

carefully I would have missed her voice.

"Look I've been meaning to get that exact words since so long, and when I do get it I can't even gloat." I rambled."You didn't even apologize when you threw my Xbox into the pool, and boy was that not expensive. Then you even tried to put hair color into my shampoo."

"Dave"

"Hmm."

"Shut up."

"Yes, Ma'am" I agreed. She did look scary now. Wouldn't want to get punched, though I should blame myself for putting her in boxing classes in the first place.

"I'm sorry."she whispered her eyes turning glassy. I knew where this was going and it had to stop. Everyone has a different way of dealing with shit in life. But Gwen always blames herself for all that happened. No amount of talking actually got

through her thick head.

"Hey, listen to me once and carefully. This is not your fault, and if you ever think like that. I will never let you touch another jar of Nutella." I warned.

Gwen looked up horrified, as funny as this

sounded she loved her candy and sweets. One day without them she would go bonkers. So the best way to get her to do your bidding is this.

"If it wasn't for me, you never would have to go through this."she said her voice shaky.

"I don't care. If I had to go through this a hundred times I would, because I have you as my best friend." I told her sincerely. It's true I wouldn't give up my friend for the world.

"Sleep, I'll see you later." Gwen said softly kissing my cheek and instructed the nurse to give me painkillers.

I fell asleep with a smile on my face, because no matter what I have my best friend with me. Other problems we can deal with.

"Are you Ms Carter?" I heard a voice causing me to turn and find a bulky man with thick rimmed glasses. He had narrow lean black eyes and a square face.

"Yes."

"Hi, I'm officer Jefferson. I'm incharge of the case of your friend Mr Salve." He replied looking at me intently.

How I wished I could tell him the name of the bastard who was responsible for this. But I couldn't I didn't have proof against Liam. My accusation would be considered an insult to the reputation of a great business man.

Liam didn't deserve to go to jail. It was too easy. He would spend the rest of his life crying and begging for messing with me. Ask a girl how to hold grudges. He deserves much more because that piece of donkey poop is the reason a person could have died today.

"Um, Dave must be asleep. So you might have to take his statement later. " Hoping they wouldn't hound him for interrogation now.

"I was actually hoping to talk to you." Jefferson said pointedly.

"Sure." I agreed.

"So how long do you know Dave.?"Jefferson

asked.

"Since highschool." I answered.

"And both of you started business together.?"

"Yes."

"Mr Dave, what did he do in the company.?"

"He designed jewelry while I handled the other part." I answered.

"So, a few days ago. Mr Dave was considered to replace you by your board members?" Jefferson asked carefully studying my expressions.

"They did try, but that decision was ruled out." I told him. Where was this going? I feel like I missed something, the feeling kept nagging at the back of my head.

"Do you want me to be honest?"he asked.

I nodded indicating he should continue talking.

"Doesn't it seem convenient that your friend gets attacked, and almost dies a few days after the company proposes you to be replaced by him" he continued.

"Are you suggesting I planned this attack on

dave?" I asked now mad. Who does he think he is. Coming here and saying I would want Dave dead. I would give up my life if it meant he lived happily.

So this was all Liam's plan. It was a ruse, he never wanted me to step down from my position. He just staged all the things in a

way that would make me look bad and the final step was attacking Dave so it was like hitting two birds at a time.

"I'm not saying anything. The facts are pointing it out." Jefferson said.

"These facts you claim to have may be wrong."I pointed out.

"Not from the sources I've gathered." he smiled, challenging me.

"You are aware that people lie for your so called 'facts'." I said, giving a sweet smile.

"You maybe lying. That's a possibility." he said with a carefully measured expression.

"Possibilities are endless, there is one which is true."

"I intend to find the truth."

"Unless you have proof against me. I suggest you tread carefully." I warned.

"Until this case is solved, you cannot leave the country and I expect your cooperation if we do find proof. I will see you later Ms Carter." Jefferson saluted and went out of the room without a second glance.

Liam you made your move, it's time for mine.

***********************

When you are in jail, a good friend will bail you out, but a best friend will be in the cell next to you saying 'damn that was fun.' Groucho Marx.

A big shoutout to all the people who figured out Liam's plan. That's the reason I'm making an early update.🙂

Describe Dave in one word.

My next update will be Saturday.

Do you think Liam has a chance of beating Gwen in his game?

Until then.
