《I'm An Idiot》10

Jungkook was not happy.
Not one bit at all.
His eyes were narrowed into a glare, his mouth set into a frown as he stared at the duo seated in the café across from the street that he was currently standing on. Nails dug deeper into his skin as the (h/c)-haired girl laughed at something the guy said.
Even though they were a distance away from him, Jungkook could imagine the scene perfectly in his head. (E/C) eyes would sparkle under the warm glow of the café's lights, her sweet laughter like a lullaby to the guy's ears who was smiling away without a care in the world, showing off his dimples.
And how would Jungkook know all these?
That was because he personally knew those two people. They were one of the few who was closest to him in his life – the girl was his best friend, supposedly girlfriend while the guy was his childhood friend that he looked up to ever since he was young.
A low growl left his lips as his hands clenched tighter at the sight of the guy swiping away the girl's hair out of her eyes. He bet on his ass that the girl's cheeks were probably painted a light pink, flushing at the unexpected action.
Because that was how she always reacted whenever Jungkook moved her fringe out of her eyes, so it wouldn't get in the way.
He was caught up in whatever the duo was doing that he had completely forgotten about his companion who was bored out of his mind. Taehyung looked in the direction that Jungkook was looking at, shielding his eyes from the bright sun to have a better look.
"Ne Jungkook-ssi, what on earth are you looking at?" The silver-haired male asked, squinting his eyes to get a better look.
"Nothing that's of your business!" Jungkook snapped before a gasp escaped his mouth, his eyes widened at the sight of his friends leaving the café together. "Shit! They're leaving! If we don't hurry, we'll lose sight of them!"
"Who are they? And isn't it wrong to be stalking – Jungkook! What are you doing?! Hey!"
Taehyung let out a startled gasp as his friend suddenly grabbed his wrist and pulled him across the street, barely even looking left or right to check if there were any oncoming vehicles.
He was still lost and confused as Jungkook entered a bookshop and passed him a book, hissing for him to pretend he was reading. Not wanting to anger the younger male further than he already was, Taehyung did exactly what Jungkook said.
Peeking over the book that he was holding, Taehyung tried to locate who exactly the "they" that Jungkook mentioned earlier on. He finally knew who the brown-haired male was talking about when his gaze landed on two familiar faces.
"Hey, isn't that Namjoon-hyung and (Name)?" Taehyung asked before deciding it was a better idea to just go over and greet them. "We should say hi to them."
However, just as when he stood up, Jungkook grabbed his arm and pulled him down next to him. The brown-haired male let out a quiet snarl, glaring at his friend. "You're gonna expose us to them!"
Taehyung furrowed his brows, not understanding what exactly was going on. "Expose us to them? Why do we have to hide from (Name) and Namjoon-hyung?"
Jungkook facepalmed, dragging his hand down his face as a tired sigh left his lips. He mumbled something about "should've to ask Jimin-hyung to come along instead", before turning to his friend with an exasperated look, explaining slowly to him about the situation like an adult would to a kid.

"We need to keep quiet and not attract any attention to ourselves lest they discover that we're following them."
Realization dawned upon the silver-haired male as an understanding "oh" left his lips, his mouth opened in a circle. Jungkook relaxed, not that he didn't need to worry about his friend and turned his attention back onto the duo who was currently browsing through books on the shelves.
"Wait, we're following them?" Taehyung muttered to himself before brown irises became rounded with horror that Jungkook and he were practically stalking their friends.
Turning to the said male, he tapped him furiously on his shoulder to get his attention.
At first, Jungkook pushed the older male's hand off his shoulder and hissed at him to stop. However, Taehyung was relentless as he simply tapped his shoulder once more, hissing his name. "Jungkook! Pst, Jungkook-ssi. Pay attention to me Kookie!"
"What the hell do you want?!" Jungkook hissed angrily, turning to glare at the beaming male next to him. "You're annoying, do you know that?!"
Ignoring the anger directed at him, Taehyung lifted a brow as he whispered in a low voice. "Are you sure we should be doing this? We're basically stalking our friends!"
Jungkook's eyes widened as an image of Namjoon and (Name) discovering that they were stalking them and then telling his older brother who in return would give him an earful for his behaviour.
He turned his head so fast that for a second Taehyung worried the poor boy might snap his neck in half. "Hyung! Whatever we do, we can't let them discover us or else Namjoon-Hyung will tell Jin-Hyung and then we'll be dead meat!"
Brown orbs grew tenfold as Taehyung's face mirrored his friend's face. "Shit, you're right! Better yet, why don't we just not stalk them."
"What?!" Jungkook replied incredulously. "(Name)'s my girlfriend and she's hanging out with Namjoon-hyung who's a single, handsome young man!
The corners of Taehyung's lips quirked up into a teasing smirk which caused Jungkook to narrow his eyes in suspicion. "Whatever you're thinking of saying, don't."
The silver-haired man did the exact opposite and decided to have some of his own. He deserved to at least have a go at Jungkook if he was going to be dragged into his shenanigans.
"You're just jealous of your girlfriend spending time with other guys that aren't you right?"
The younger male's jaw dropped wide opened as heat flooded his cheeks. Seeing his flustered reaction, Taehyung's smirk only grew. "I'm right, aren't I?"
Jungkook regained his senses and sent a glare at his older friend, although the redness on his cheeks remained for everyone to see that he was completely flustered Taehyung's question. "What, no! A-As if I'll be jealous!"
"Yeap, you're definitely jealous!" Taehyung sang teasingly as Jungkook choked on air, sputtering. "This is gonna be so much fun!"
With that, he picked up the book that had fallen to the ground due to Jungkook's rash actions earlier on. "Now, we've a job to do, don't we Kookie?"
"I'm not jealous of Namjoon-hyung hanging out with (Name). Not at all." Jungkook mumbled, placing his book in front of his face in hopes of hiding his red cheeks from the older male.
"Sure you aren't" Taehyung rolled his eyes. "Keep tell yourself that."
"Shut up!"
"See? You are definitely jealous, so stop denying!"
After the mishap at the bookstore, (Name) and Namjoon left which Taehyung and Jungkook quickly followed after, not wanting to lose them out of their sight. They walked all around Busan, keeping an eye on their targets at all time.

It was rather interesting as they stalked the duo, making sure to keep a distance between them lest one of them turned around and discovered them. Although, there were many times where they were careless and almost got caught, having to scramble to hide from them.
"Jungkook, how much longer do we have to follow them?" Taehyung whinnied like a five-year-old kid. "I'm getting tired."
"Shh! Keep quiet! I'm focusing here!" Jungkook shushed his friend, peeking from behind the shelf that both of them had hidden behind to have a better view of his best friends who were currently laughing at something they saw.
His jaw tightened as his hold on the shelf tightened, the veins on his fingers popping. A dark look fell over his face as he glowered at Namjoon's back, his scowl deepening. In his mind, he was sending deathly lasers at the blonde, wishing he would drop dead to the ground.
A nasty feeling swirled in the bottom pit of his stomach at the way how his best friend's eyes crinkled, her smile line showing as her laughter tinkled like tiny bells. However, what caused the tendrils of jealousy to coil tighter around his heart was the fact that it was his hyung that evoked the reaction of her and not him.
Only he had the rights to make her laugh like that!
'Get away from her hyung! I met her first and not you! Only I can make her laugh like that!' A growl left his lips as Namjoon took the item of (Name)'s hand, his fingers brushing against her cheek by accident due to the huge difference between them.
His top row of teeth ground with the bottom row as his jaw tightened even more when the (h/c)-haired girl flushed a light pink at the unexpected contact, only to become more flustered when Namjoon apologised for the incident which to shake her head to say it was alright.
"You know Jungkook, as much as it's funny to see you act so jealous at the sight of your girlfriend hanging out with another guy, you shouldn't be so possessive of her. After all, she's still a human which means she's entitled to her rights." Taehyung frowned, placing a hand on the younger male's shoulder.
Jungkook whipped his head around, protesting at what his friend said. "But I'm the one dating her and yet, she's acting so chummy with Namjoon-hyung!"
The grip on Jungkook's shoulder tightened to the point he let out a small wince as Taehyung fixed him a stern look, long ago was the childish man that he usually carried himself as. "You don't expect (Name) to only show affections to you and not her friends and family."
The older man's next few words were what struck the nail home for Jungkook. "She chooses to be close and intimate with those she loves and that includes, her friends, family and you."
Brown eyes widened at the realization that had dawned upon him. Yesterday's night at the pier with his best friend entered his mind, the way how she held onto him as she looked him steely in eyes and told him how she loved him.
(Name) had meant her words when she told him that.
Taehyung removed his hand from Jungkook's shoulder as a groan left the younger male's lips. Concern could be heard in his voice as he asked, "Jungkook-ssi? What's the matter?"
The brown-haired male turned to face Taehyung and grabbed him by the shoulders, his eyes two times wider than their usual size. "I'm such an idiot! (Name) do love me!"
Concern turned into confusion, his brows furrowed as Taehyung frowned, not understanding what Jungkook meant. "Huh? Of course, she loves you. If not she won't be dating you."
Jungkook ignored his friend's words as he released his hold on him and turned on his heels, leaving the poor male standing in the aisle completely lost on what was going on.
"Thanks, hyung! I now know what I need to do! I'll see you!"
"Er, you're welcome?" Taehyung questioned, his hand up in the air in a half-hearted wave but Jungkook had already left the store.
Jungkook rushed back home, needing some time to prepare for what he was about to do. As he walked home, his mind was occupied with all sorts of thoughts – mainly his best friend's love confession and the way how he had reacted afterwards.
He winced slightly when he remembered how much of an asshole he was to (Name). Guilt consumed him when he remembered the sound of her sobbing as she cried herself to sleep that night, making him want just to hold her in his arms and apologized because no matter how one looked at it, he shouldn't have reacted in this way even if he didn't return her feelings.
However, his painful past resurfaced when (Name) professed her feelings as fear of repetition caused him to take on a defensive stance as the walls around him that had collapsed from before came up again, a mechanism his brain did to protect his heart.
Honestly, he felt himself cracking as both of them laid in bed that night – one pretending to sleep while the other thought he was asleep as her words loosened the bricks of his walls one by one, threatening to remove the giant wall even if she was going to do it brick by brick.
It wasn't until Taehyung's words from earlier on that made him realized what an idiot he was. His best friend already told him that she wasn't like his past love but because he was so afraid, he couldn't bring himself to believe her words.
At the same time, his fear might have caused his chance with the girl that meant the entire world to him.
Jungkook's hand froze at his front door, eyes two times their usual size. Butterflies fluttered in his stomach as his heart raced at a hundred miles per hour and he could feel heat pooling his cheeks.
He was in love with his best friend.
The sound of the front door unlocking brought Jungkook out of his reverie as it opened to reveal Eunha standing at the entrance, surprise written on her face at seeing the younger male.
Both of them simply stood there and stared at one another in silence until Eunha spoke up.
"Jungkook? What are you doing here back so early? I thought you'll be out late with Taehyung-ssi?" The female furrowed her brows in confusion, moving out of the way for the brown-haired male to enter.
Jungkook blinked his eyes as he removed his shoes and placed them neatly on the shoe shelf, answering his future sister-in-law. "V-hyung had something on suddenly and needed to leave so I came back since I had nothing else to do."
They exchanged few more words before Jungkook excused himself, saying that he was feeling tired and wanted to rest. Eunha nodded her head in understanding and left the house, the door shutting gently behind her.
Jungkook climbed up the stairs to the second floor where his room was. He entered the room and tossed his possessions on the sofa before approaching the bed and falling backwards onto the soft mattress, his body bouncing slightly.
He laid there unmoving as a yawn escaped his lips, suggesting that he was rather sleepy. Yet, he fought to stay awake until (Name) came back so that he could apologize to her for being such a jerk to her.
He lost the battle as his eyelids fluttered shut and he fell asleep to the thought of making things right with his best friend again.
The sound of door opening and closing gently stirred Jungkook from his slumber. He was having a rather pleasant dream with the girl that he loved – smiling and glowing like the brightest star in the sky.
A quiet groan left his lips as he stretched his arms behind him, letting out a satisfied sigh when his back cracked. Pushing himself to sit upright, he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and blinked blurringly to clear his vision as he stared at the hazy figure in front of him.
"(Name), is that you?" He mumbled, his voice still thick from just waking up.
"Yea, it's me. Sorry if I woke you up. I did try to be quiet." The (h/c)-haired girl answered as she moved towards the sofa where she placed her bunch of shopping bags down on it.
"It's alright, I was waiting for you but ended up falling asleep instead." Jungkook shook his head reassuringly.
(Name) didn't say anything and just nodded her head before turning her attention to unload her shopping bags. Jungkook sighed as he watched the girl's back, knowing that she wasn't in the mood to talk.
However, she couldn't avoid it forever because eventually, they would have to talk it out whether she liked it or not.
Swinging his legs off the bed, Jungkook got up and pattered towards the bathroom. Sound of water rushing could be heard as he turned on the tap, splashing water on his face to wake himself up.
He reached for the face towel hanging on the rack and wiped his face dry before tossing the towel into the hamper. Even then, he remained in the bathroom, albeit hesitant to leave the small space and faced whatever awaited him outside.
'Come on Jungkook, you can do this. All you've to do is apologize for the way you behave, and everything will be back to normal.' Jungkook gave himself a pep talk.
Checking himself in the mirror, he nodded his head when he was satisfied with his appearance and left the small, enclosed space.
The brown-haired boy walked out of the bathroom and was greeted with the sight of his best friend putting away the last of her shopping items.
The moment of his eyes clashed with hers, the confidence that he barely managed to gather disappeared as his mouth became dry, the words that he wanted to say stuck at the back of his throat.
(Name) was the same as she froze on the spot, looking like a deer caught in headlights. If the awkward tension wasn't obvious before, it was so thick now that a knife could slice through it.
Jungkook knew that if things wanted to be clear up between the both of them, he had to be the one to initiate the conversation because it was his fault for messing up big time.
So, swallowing the lump in his throat, he ignored the nervous butterflies fluttering in his stomach as he took a step forward in your direction. He tried to make himself as small as possible, trying to come across as meek.
He didn't want to scare her off.
"(Name)..." He begins softly, a tone one would used when they were approaching a scared animal. "I just wanna talk."
His best friend took a small, hesitant step back as (e/c) eyes darted left and right, trying to look for a possible escape route. "Whatever it is, I don't know to want to know."
Jungkook flinched when he heard the slight acidity in her tone, knowing that he deserved it. His lips curled into a sad smile as he came to a stop in front of her, the gap larger between them than he would have liked.
His gaze was downward and stared at (Name)'s feet as he spoke up. "I've a feeling you'll react in this manner and I'm right. Yet, I don't blame you because I probably deserve it after the way how I treat you last night. But, just hear me out. You don't have to say anything."
The room became so quiet that he could hear breathing and he was sure she could hear his too. Even though (Name) didn't reply, Jungkook took her still here as a sign to continue on.
Taking in a deep breath to calm his nerves, he pushed on as all that he wanted to say before came back to him. "That night when you told me your feelings, I shouldn't have reacted in such a jerky way. Then again, you've to understand that I was also afraid because of what happened to me in the past. My fear of getting hurt by you got the better of me and acted without thinking twice."
Jungkook took in a shaky breath as he gathered his courage to look (Name) in the eyes even though he felt he wasn't worthy enough. "What I should've done is to be more sensitive about it because this is your feeling as well. I'm sorry, (Name). I've hurt my best friend and I've no excuse to justify what I did. I hope you can find it in you to forgive me and maybe, we can give this whole love thing a try."
He would be lying if he said he wasn't nervous to know how the (h/c)-nett would react.
(E/C) eyes widened as (Name)'s face became tomato red, her mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. "Did you just...wait no, I must be dreaming...it's impossible for you to feel the same way...right?"
