《The Good Girl Boxer》Chapter 30

I switched the safety and closed my eyes. I pictured Ashton in my head. Her long brown hair and the dimples she gets when she smiles.

With a ghostly smile I slipped my finger over the trigger.

"That's it Daytona. Do it. Save Ashton."

Bang. Bang.

Someone knocked on the door and it startled me, causing me to shoot the wall on my left.

Colton walked up to the door, unlocked it, and swung it open. "What the fuck do you want?" He was pushed back into the room by large hands and then someone else walked into the room.

When he spotted me, Logan's eyebrows knitted together, "Daytona– what're you doing? Put that gun down."

"You're, you're alive?"

"Of course I'm alive, now put the gun down." He took a step towards me and I raised it back up to the side of my head.

"I can't Logan, I'm sorry, but I can't put it down." I clenched my eyes shut and slid my finger over the trigger again.

"That's right Daytona. Do it to save her. You can still fix everything." Colton said. I nodded my head and a tear slipped out.

"I'm sorry Logan, I-i love you."

"No! Daytona!" Logan charged and launched himself at me, knocking us both to the ground. It hurt like hell, but I missed the shot. It hit the ceiling this time. "Don't leave me. I can't loose you too Day." His tears landed on my cheeks and I found myself crying too.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry." I kept repeating those words over and over, and at some point I laid the gun down on the floor.

"No!" Colton roared, "You're going to die tonight whether it be by your hand, or my hand." He raced to the gun but Logan got it first. He raised it and shot Colton in the foot.

Colton fell to the ground with a yell of pain.

"Let's get out of here." Logan whispered. Quickly he planted a kiss on my lips and then he untied the ropes that were binding my legs to the chair and picked me up bridal style.

Even while we were running though the empty halls, I kept looking back, waiting for him to come around the corner and finish me off.

Everything that had happened this weekend felt like it was straight out of a teen fiction book– it all seemed so unreal.

I wrapped my arms around Logan's neck and cried into his shoulder. I didn't even know how it was possible that I was still crying or that he was alive. "How're you alive?" I asked him.

"What do you mean Day? Why wouldn't I be alive?" He wiped the tears from my face.

"I saw you and Mason. Y-you guys were dead." I saw Logan's eyes harden and he pushed open a door leading us outside. The cool air was both refreshing and freezing. I shivered in my place in Logan's arms and he tightened his grip on me.

Just up ahead, I could see two cars parked along the street. One was Jake's car, and the other one I had never seen before.

What if it was Jared?

I widened my eyes in terror at the thought when another, even more terrifying, thought popped up in my head.

That escape was way to easy, what if that's Colton's men getting ready to attack us the minute we get close.

I started shaking uncontrollably and gripping the back of his collar. "Day, what's wrong?"

I pointed a shaky finger at the mysterious car. "Who's that?" I whispered.

A faint smile spread across his lips, "I think you'll like who it is. I promise he's not a threat."

I nodded my head skeptically, and as we got nearer, the door swung open and I pulled myself closer to Logan.

"Day?" The person who stepped out of the car called out to me. The voice was so familiar it haunted me in my sleep for two years.

"Coop?" Logan set me down and even though my legs were wobbly, I ran to him anyways. I wrapped my arms around him and he did the same, holding me so tightly I couldn't breath. "I-i almost..."

"Shh," he patted my hair, "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. What matters is that you're back and you're safe." I nodded my head and hugged him one more time. "Now why don't we get you home before someone comes after us."

I nodded my head again and climbed into the back seat of Cooper's new car. The leather seats were cool, a comforting cool, as I laid across them.

Before Cooper even climbed into the car, I was falling asleep.

~~~~🌸~~~~
I woke up in a cold sweat. It was a common occurrence now. For the past two weeks, anytime I fell asleep, I would wake back up screaming.
I haven't gone to school, I had hardly even left my room. The only time I did was so I could grab an apple. That being said, an apple is the only thing I've eaten.
My stomach growled at me and the hunger pains shot through my stomach, but I ignored them. This is what I deserve, I thought. I hauled myself out of bed and looked at my alarm clock. 5:29 blinked back at me.
I sighed and decided I might as well take a shower (something else I hadn't done in a week). I grabbed some clothes (another pair of pajamas) and hit the showers.
When I got out of the shower I climbed back into bed, unlocking my phone.
17 new texts from Logan
8 new texts from Jake
59 new texts from Charlotte.
A small smile fitted my lips when I saw how many texts were from Charlotte. The majority of them consisted of her asking if I was okay. She's come over every other day, but I didn't let her in. I didn't let anyone in. Not even Logan.
His texts were mainly catching me up on what was going on in school. He came by every single day, morning and night. Actually, now that I think of it, I'm not sure if he even left.
Mom stopped by once, but I just told her I didn't feel good and I probably wouldn't for awhile. She believed me.
Dad didn't stop by though. Not that I expected him to. I had heard nothing from him or about him. That just showed exactly where I was in his standing.
I also had a text from Makayla. That was unexpected. Her text was just saying that the team missed me at practice and she hoped I felt better.
That was really weird.
I scrolled through Instagram looking at my feed. Nothing was really eye-catching so I switched to Pinterest. I ended up spending the next four hours scrolling through Pinterest.
Knock knock.
I sighed and opened my door a crack, "I told you I didn't want to talk to anyone–" I stopped short when I realized that it was Tanner and Tyler on the other side. "Guys–"
"We know you don't want to talk to anyone," Tyler started.
"But we're older than you so we don't have to listen." Tanner finished and they pushed their way into my room, grabbing me underneath my arms and hauling me over to my bed. "Sit."
I did as I was told and sat down.
"Now listen." Tyler's voice was stern and it brought me back to that night. I widened my eyes in fear. "Oh, uh sorry." He said, rubbing the back of his neck, "I didn't mean to scare you."
"Way to go dingbat." Tanner hit him upside the head and rolled his eyes.
"Sorry Daytona. But listen. It's okay to be in this slump. We get it. Something terrible happened that night but you can't shut everyone out. We're here for you. You can depend on us."
"Yeah so if you're feeling sad, just tell us, we'll cheer you up." Tanner poked at me cheek and I just looked at him.
"We've all been there before–"
I cut Tyler off, "No you haven't. You were not kidnapped from some house party, stored in a warehouse by yourself for hours and you didn't almost blow your own brains out. So no you haven't been there before." My voice was thick with emotions and my eyes welled up with tears. "This is why I didn't want anyone coming in here. You're trying to sympathize with me and you can't."
Tanner and Tyler shared a glance and both wrapped their arms around me. "You're right. I can't imagine what you went through at all, but we're here for you. All of us. Now why don't you change and we'll take you out and do whatever you want."
"I don't want to guys."
"Then you leave us no choice." Tanner said. At the same time they both started tickling me all over. I was laughing so hard I was almost choking on my tears.
"S-stop it." I pushed at them but they kept on tickling me.
"We'll only stop if you agree to go with us." Tyler said with an amused grin. I could tell they both were content with themselves for making me laugh.
"Fine! I'll go! Just s-stop tickling me." They stopped and I stood up. "Now leave so I can change out of these." I gestured to my pink sweats and bunny slippers.
Both of them cocked their eyebrows up, "You really think we're that dumb? The minute we walk out that door," Tanner pointed to my door, "You'll climb back in bed."
I sighed, "Do you really think I'll change infront of you two?" Tanner pointed to the bathroom behind me. "Right. Well, let me grab some clothes." I picked a pink flowy long sleeve shirt of the hanger and rummaged through my drawers for some light blue jeans. When I had my outfit together I headed to the bathroom to change.
In there I applied some foundation, mascara, and blush to make me look a little more alive than my current puffy eyed, pale, sunken in face, state. I changed into my clothes and when I headed out Tanner and Tyler were still there. "You guys ready to go or what?" They nodded their heads and followed me out of my bedroom.
"Were you guys able to–" Logan's voice trailed off and his eyes lit up when he saw me walking down the stairs. "Day!" He ran up and caught me in a hug, picking me up and spinning me around. He set me down and scrunched his eyebrows together, "You're super light now Day." I shrugged my shoulders in response. "So. Where do you want to go?"
I shrugged my shoulders again. "Give me a minute." I thought about it and there were only two things that I even remotely had the energy for. "Laser tag and Chinese food?"
The four boys (with the addition of Mason) all gave each other smirks and in unison they said, "Deal."
~~~~🌸~~~~

As the end of laser tag neared, I found myself almost forgetting about what had happened two weeks ago. I let myself enjoy what I was doing without thinking of anything else. I had even laughed so hard tears filled my eyes.

We had just about two minutes left of the game and Logan and I were on the same team this time. We had stuck together and dominated the whole thing. We had to be ahead by at least a couple hundred points.

"Shh." Logan pressed his finger to my lips even though I wasn't talking. We were pressed against a wall, getting ready to round the corner when we heard the sound of footsteps approaching us. "Someone's coming. On the count of three." He held up one finger, then two, then three.

We jumped around the corner but there was no one there. Then the sound of a gun getting ready to shoot blared out from behind us. "Day! Watch out!" Logan pushed me aside and jumped infront of the laser, his red vest dying out.

"Game over." The automated voice came from the ceiling, letting us know our time was up.

I ran over to Logan in a very dramatic way and fell on my knees by his side. "No. Don't leave me." I fake cried onto his chest.

He coughed, "Day. I'll always take a bullet for you." His eye lids fluttered closed and he let out one more breath. We stayed like that for a few more seconds before I fell over on to my side in a fit of tears and laughter.

"That was the best thing ever." I said between my witchy cackles.

Logan sat up with a smug look on his face, "I'm a pretty great actor. Aren't I?"

I nodded my head profusely.

"What are you two idiots doing? It's time to go." Tanner rounded the corner and hauled his brother up by his ear.

I stood up on my own and watched the two playfully fight, remembering the first time I met them when a fight like this would turn serious in a matter of seconds.

The eight of us (Charoltte, Jake, Jordan and Marissa met us here) headed out to our designated cars and drove to the best Chinese restaurant in town.

I could feel my heart rate elevating as we neared the place, it's bold red roof with gold trim, stood out against the bland colors of the buildings in this part of town.

When we finally parked I jumped out and raced to the front doors, letting the familiar smell of Asian food great my nose. My stomach let out a loud rumble. I was surprised that New York couldn't hear it, it was so loud.

"When was the last time you ate?" Logan asked from behind me.

I jumped up, startled, at his closeness. "Ten days ago."

"What did you eat?"

"Half an apple." I felt him stiffen up behind me and ignored the way it stirred my insides.

"Day," he placed his hands on my shoulder and spun me around. I was waiting for a lecture about how I should've eaten better and what not, but nothing came. He just looked at me with a sad smile, and pressed his lips to my forehead. "I'm glad you came today."

"Me too." I closed my eyes and let myself enjoy the heat that spread from my forehead to my finger tips and to my toes.

"Let's get some grub!" Jake yelled, causing us to jump apart. I laughed at the fact that once again, Jake ruined the mood.

"Everytime..." Logan mumbled, wrapping his arm around me, the both of us sharing the same thought. "Hey, Day."

I turned my head to face him. "Yeah."

"I love you."

For a minute I didn't know what to say.

Then I realized there was only one thing I could say back to him. "I love you too."

Hey guys!

Sorry it's taken me soooo long to get this chapter out. I deleted it 2 times because I didn't want to let you guys down.

I still feel it's kind of anti-climatic so I'm sorry :/

I hope you guys enjoyed it though!

I love you all! 😘❤️
