《The Good Girl Boxer》Chapter 18

I watched as his tail lights faded into the crowd. "Jordan, are you okay?" I frantically searched for some kind of light.

"Yeah I'm fine. Are you okay? I'll tear into that jerk if Logan doesn't first." I laughed a little and when my fingers found the over head lights I switched it on.

"Oh my God Jordan!" When I looked over to my left, Jordan had a cut on his forehead and blood was dripping out of it.

Following my gaze, he reached a finger up and touched it to his forehead. He hissed and brought his fingers back, "Okay. So maybe I'm not completely fine, but you're about to be slaved off to Colton because we lost."

"Thanks for making this situation so much better." I rolled my eyes. "But I don't think we lost." A pair of headlights pulled up infront of us, coming in the direction of the finish line.

Logan got out of the car and jogged towards us. I opened the car door and started to get out when Logan called out to us, "Are you two okay?" Logan took my face in his hands and inspected it.

"Yeah I'm fine. Jordans not though. Did you win?" A small smile crept on his face.

"Did I win? Princess do you even have to ask?" I squealed and hugged him. Relief flooded my heart and I smiled into his chest.

Jordan got out of the car, breaking me and Logan apart. "I'm fine guys. I just have a little cut."

"What happened to you guys? You were beating him for awhile." I looked at Jordan and you could see the annoyance take over his features.

"He freaking speed up and then cut us off!" I giggled a little under my breath.

Logan swung his arm around me and we walked back to the finish line.

~~~~~
For the past thirty minutes we had been walking around looking for Charlotte, Mason, Jake, and Ben.
"Charlotte! Mason!" I called for them again but all I got were weird looks from people.
I ran my finger through my hair and tucked on it. I spun around and walked towards Logan who was calling for Jake. "Have we checked the bar yet?"
"I've checked twice, but do you want to check again?" I nodded my head and parted away, walking to the bar.
I had to elbow my way through people to get to the actual bar. I took a seat and rested my head on my hand.
"What can a get you ma'am?" A bartender who looked as if she was about in her mid fourties, took out a pad to take my order.
"Did you happen to see two guys, both about 6'1, one has blue eyes, one has hazel eyes. The one with hazel eyes has shaggy hair and is incredibly annoying?" The lady raised her eyebrow at me and pointed a slim finger over my left shoulder.
"Do you mean those two goons?" I turned around when I saw Mason and Jake walking up.
"Where the hell have you two been?! We've been looking for you guys for half a hour!" I turned around and gave a small smile to the lady, "Thank you for you help."
She rolled her eyes and waved her dainty hand and walked away.
I turned back to face Jake and Mason, shooting them death glares.
Grabbing them by their ears (which looked pretty weird because they were six inches taller than me), I dragged them back to the Jeep.
"Ow, ow, ow. Daytona, let go, we get the point." They both complained and I let go of their ears.
When we got to the car I spun on my heel to face them, "What were you two doing, that you can't hear us calling, and can't answer your phone." I showed them my phone so they could see the fact I had called each of them four times.
"We're sorry Daytona," Jake sighed out, "We were m–" Mason hit him in the gut and he shut up.
Narrowing my eyes towards the two I set out to see if Logan or Jordan had found Charlotte or Ben.
"Hey, have you two had any luck?" They both shook their heads no, and I let out an irritated groan, "Seriously! Where did everyone go?"
Someone tapped on my shoulder and I whipped around to face a red eye'd Charlotte.
"Where have you– Wait? Are you high right now?" I took her face in my hands and she gave me a goofy smile.
"High as a kite." I rolled my eyes and grabbed her arm and shoved her into the Jeep.
"Well that's everyone." I let out an exhausted sigh.
Logan placed a hand on my shoulder and offered me a small smile. He headed to the Jeep and I gave Jordan a quick hug. "It was nice to meet you. Thanks for protecting me against Colton."
For the first time I saw Jordan smile. Then he turned and walked away.
I watched his retreating figure for a few seconds before I climbed into the backseat with Jake and Charlotte.
It didn't take me long before I found myself dozing off.
"Hey, Day, wake up. You've been asleep for too long." I woke up with a jolt and starred into sea-green eyes.
My heart skipped a beat and tears filled my eyes, "C-Cooper? What are you doing here? You're dead." He sat back on my bed and tilted his head.
"You're right. I'm dead. And do you know why?" I shook my head and pulled my knees up to my chest. "Because I had a stupid little sister who was to full of herself. She called me and I had to go pick her up but she took my car so I had to take my bike."
I covered my ears with my hands and shook my head faster. "No. No. No." Tears fell down my face and I found myself gasping for air.
"Oh so you know how this goes? Well let me tell you again. I picked her up from a bar where she got shitfaced drunk, then I took her home, except, we didn't quite make it home did we? Because you couldn't stay still and when that van shot out of nowhere, I had to keep it from hitting you, and in an attempt to save you, I died."
"Stop! Stop it Cooper!" I screamed into the air and he vanished.
In his place, my dad and mom showed up in my room.
My mom took a step forward and started to yell at me, "Look what you've done! You've torn this family apart! I wish you were never born!"
A scream woke me up and it took a few moments before I realized it was mine.
Sweat dripped down my forehead and I was breathing heavily.
"Hey? What's wrong?" Jake had his hand on my shoulder and I could feel details of my dream slipping away.
"It was just a nightmare." I rested my head against the seat and willed the tears to stay in the back of my throat.
Mason turned around in his seat, "What was it about? That scream sounded painful." I shook my head not wanting to talk about it really.
"What's next on our to do list Logan?" I yawned and rubbed my eyes.
"A place to sleep." Stretching his arms out he yawned. "We crossed the Golden Gate bridge while you were asleep. We're in Oakland now, so the first hotel I see I'm pulling over because it's like 2 am and I'm exhausted."
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and looked up nearby hotels, "There's one five miles from here."
I passed my phone to Mason and he read off the directions to the hotel. In five minutes we pulled into the parking lot and all got out of the car.
"Man. Tonight's been exhausting." Jake bent over and touched his toes, stretching his legs. His hair was all disheveled and dry drool clung to the left of his mouth.
"Um Jake. You've got a little something there." Mason gestured to his face and Jake wiped it off.
I walked into the hotel lobby and up to the receptionist desk, "Uh hi. Could I have," I did the calculations in my head to figure out how many rooms we'll need. "Could I have three rooms please."
"How long will you be staying miss?"
"Just one night is all." I pulled out my debit card and handed it to her.
"Here are six cards. Two for each room. I went ahead and booked you guys right next to each other too. Breakfast tomorrow morning starts at 6:30 am and ends at 10:00. Check-out is at noon." I thanked her and grabbed the keys and walked back outside.
"Okay guys. I got us three rooms. I don't know how you want to room, so figure it out amongst yourselves, I'm good with whatever." I placed the six room keys on the hood of the car.
"Day, you didn't have to buy the rooms. I was going to." Logan picked up the two rooms keys that read 417.
"Dang it. That lady couldn't have given us 420." Mason grumbled under his breath and I laughed at his immature behavior.
"It's okay. Trust me, if I didn't mind buying the rooms, I wouldn't have. So am I rooming with you?" I took the second key out of Logan's hand when he nodded. "Alright guys. I'm heading up. I'm mega tired." I said through yawns.
I waved at them and headed towards the elevator. I pressed the fourth floor and closed my eyes as the elevator took me up.
When I stepped out two plaques hung on the wall, saying rooms 401-411 were to the left and 412-430 are to the right.
I headed to the right and when I found the right room I put the key in and opened the door.
There was something about the way that hotels made me feel. I guess it was like being homesick, except whenever you stay in hotels, you're usually not home. I don't really know how to describe it, but walking into the room caused a rush of relief to run through me.
I didn't close the door all the way, so that Logan didn't have to use the key to get in. "Ah, an actual bed." I plopped onto the bed on my stomach and moaned into the sheets.
It felt so good that I didn't want to get up, but downstairs in the parking lot, Logan had handed me a bag of pajamas and clothes for the rest of the weekend.
I sat up and grabbed a pair of pj's from the bag. It was a long sleeve white shirt and blue shorts.
I pulled off my dress and turned around when I saw Mason standing in the doorway.
The fact he was seeing me without clothes on, wasn't what was bothering me.
What was stressing me out was the fact that the bruise on my ribs, wasn't completely healed. On normal circumstances, it should've, but with the amount of times I got hit in it, and the accident earlier tonight, it hadn't had proper time to heal. It was still fading from a yellow to a brown, and it still stretched from right between my ribs, to the left of my body.
"Listen Mason, it's not what you think." I grabbed my dress from off the bed and wrapped it around my stomach, trying to cover the bruise as much as I could.
He took a large step forward, confusion and anger contorting his face, "Then what is it Daytona? Did you get that from fighting? If you did, I swear I'll kill whoever hurt you."
I could tell he was getting angry so I tried to calm him down, "No Mason, it wasn't from fighting." He took a few more steps forward until he was right infront of me.
"Then what is it from Daytona? And don't tell me you fell down the stairs or something?" I shook my head no and lowered my shaking arms so he could see the bruise better.
"My father beats me Mason. He hasn't hit me since you and Ashton have moved in, but he's been beating me ever since Cooper died. He blames me for it and he hates me." I hung my head, hating myself to.
If I was in my father's position, I would hate myself too. Because of me, his only son died. Because of me, his wife works extra hours and has become so distant that she isn't even around anymore. Because of me, the family has fallen apart. I would, and I do, hate myself too. I probably hate myself more than my dad hates me, which is hard to believe knowing that he wants to kill me.
"Oh Daytona. I'm so sorry I wasn't here for you." Mason engulfed me in his arms and pulled me close.
I wrapped my arms around him and let myself feel as if I wasn't the cause of all the heartbreak and sorrow around me.
"I'm going to go to bed Mason. It's been a long day." I turned around and slipped into my pajama shirt.
I waited until I heard the door click to slip into my pants and climbed into one of the queen beds in the room. The lady at the desk was nice enough to think ahead and had gotten us rooms with two beds.
I snuggled into the bed and shut my eyes, but as I did, flashes of Cooper yelling at me would appear behind my eyes and they bursted open.
Closing my eyes again I knew I would have to deal with it if I wanted to get some sleep, but the longer I kept my eyes shut, the louder the words got in my head and tears started to slip out of my eyes.
I let out a choked sob and wiped the tears that trailed down my cheeks.
Trying to shut out my brothers yelling and grabbed my phone off the nightstand and prayed I managed to grab my earbuds.
I searched through the bags for my jeans and when I found them I searched the pockets for my earbuds. When my hand touched them I yanked them out of my pocket and plugged them into my phone, crawling back into bed.
I scrolled through my Spotify looking for something to play, and when I didn't find anything that screamed to me, I clicked on Taylor Swift's album 'reputation'.
The first song to come on was 'I Did Something Bad' and I closed my eyes, hoping the music would drown out my thoughts.
It must've worked because the next time I woke up a different song was playing.
Logan silently closed the door and crept through the dark. "Day? Are you up?"
I didn't answer and he took that for a no and climbed into the other bed.
Picking the earbuds out of my ears I rolled to my other side so I was facing the wall. I shut my eyes and was relieved when Cooper wasn't there screaming at me.
~~~~~

Someone was shaking me and I woke up. My voice was hoarse and the sheets clung to my sweat covered body. Tears dripped onto the pillow I was clutching and when I opened my eyes Logan's green ones were looking down at me.

"Day! Wake up! Are you okay? You were screaming bloody murder." I nodded my head and brushed his hands off of me.

I had the same dream from earlier and to be honest I was terrified to go back to sleep, so I rolled to my side, facing the wall again, and plugged my earbuds back in.

I ended up staying awake for the whole night so when Taylors album played for the twenty-eighth time I finally checked my phone and saw it was 8:25.

Magically my phone hadn't died yet, but I knew if I didn't get it on the charger pronto, it would. So I sent a quick text to everyone letting them know I was going downstairs for breakfast and plugged my phone in on the charger.

I headed downstairs, completely exhausted. It wasn't too hard to find where the breakfast was, all I had to do was follow the smell.

There were plenty of tables set up in the area where they had breakfast. I grabbed a plate and walked up to the buffet.

I scooped some eggs onto my plate and grabbed a few slices of bacon. I also took some breakfast potatoes, and a slice of toast.

I walked around the buffet and grabbed a bottle of juice and found an empty table to sit at.

I had barely even sat down when someone from behind me asked, "Mind if I sit here?" I turned to look at whoever was talking to me and was surprised when I saw Micah.

I choked on my eggs and he took a seat across from me. When I was able to speak again I narrowed my eyes at him and asked, "What the hell are you doing here? Are you following me?"

He laughed and folded his arms on the table. "Me? Follow you? That's crazy. I'm just here visiting."

"Cut the shit will you Micah? You said you would see me later, and here you are. So tell me what you want." I picked up my fork and twirled it in my hand. It was a plastic fork, but I didn't care.

His eyes darkened and his tone changed, "You're annoyingly observant. I have orders from my boss to keep an eye on you. I'm not supposed to pursue you, but I mean, who could resist are girl like you." I rolled my eyes and scooted my chair back.

I picked up my plate which still had almost all of my food on it, "Would you look at that. It seems that I've lost my appetite. Now I'll give you this last chance to stop following me. If I catch you once more, I will rip into you and make you wish you never laid eyes on me." I dumped my food into the trash can and grabbed my juice before I headed upstairs.

Inserting the key I pushed into the room and slammed the door, waking Logan up. "Guess who I just ran into downstairs?"

"Willie Nelson?" His voice was thick with sleep and it was a tad bit rough, and it made my heart pound in my chest.

"Very funny. But no, Micah was downstairs. He's been following us Logan. Following me." I sat down and crossed my legs on the bed.

Logan pushed himself up on one arm and ran his hands through his hair. "Wait. Micah as in Mr. "That-would-look-really-good-on-you"? Him?" I nodded my head.

"What are we going to do. He said his boss gave him orders to keep an eye on me, but he wasn't supposed to engage me." I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and texted everyone else to meet in our room.

"Dammit." Logan threw the sheets of him and climbed out of his bed. In two steps he reached the other end of the room and grabbed his phone off the table.

He dialed some number and put the phone to his ear. "Sorry to bother you so early in morning, but it's him."

He went silent and I could hear the other person talking but I couldn't make out what he was saying.

"I'm sure it's him."

More silence.

"I know, I know, but he followed her."

This time I could hear whoever it was yell, "What!?"

"I know. We have to get her out of here."

Silence.

"Okay. Yeah. See you in a few hours. Bye." He hung up and started gathering everything into bags.

"Logan what's going on?" He continued to gather the bags (which we only had like four).

"Sorry to cut your weekend short Day, but we have to get you back home. Now." He threw everything out the door and knocked on everyone else's door.

"Can we help you?" Jake opened up and stood there in his boxers and a loose white T-shirt.

"We have to leave. Now. Put some clothes on, we're going back home." Jake went back in his room.

He and Mason came out a few minutes later with everything packed.

Charlotte came out of her room right after Mason and Jake looking as if she was ready to go to a photo shoot or something.

"What? Can't a girl look good for going home?" I rolled my eyes at my best friends behavior and we all took the elevator down.

"I'm here to check out." I put all six of our keys on the counter and the man behind the desk took them.

"Did you pay when you got in?" I nodded my head, "Then that'll be all. Hope you enjoyed your stay."

I rushed out to meet everyone else at the car and hopped in. "Is everyone ready to go?" When everyone nodded, Logan started the car and pulled out.

Once again, Logan pulled out his phone and dialed a number. They didn't pick up and Logan cursed.

"Do you know what's going on?" Mason whispered in my ear.

"Some guy has been following me on his bosses orders. That's all I know. Logan knows more though." Mason nodded his head and looked out the window, his jaw working as he clenched it.

Logan was tapping his fingers on the steering wheel even though there was no music playing. "It's only thirty minutes to your house Day. I'll drop you off first and then take everyone else home. When that's done, I'll come back okay?"

I nodded my head and Logan applied more pressure to the gas and sped up.

"Okay the tension in here is way to thick." Charlotte was sitting in the passenger seat and she grabbed the aux cord and plugged it into her phone. "Any song suggestions?"
