《The Good Girl Boxer》Chapter 17

We had been driving for awhile now and I checked the time on the dash. 12:02 blinked back at me.

"Are we almost there yet?" Mason groaned and rested his head on my shoulder. "You know you're a great pillow, just like when we were kids." He poked my cheek and I giggled a little.

I looked up and caught Logan's eyes in the mirror. "What are we doing next? We're slowly starting to loose them."

I glanced around at everyone else in the car.

Charlotte was staring out the window, and three years of being her best friend has shown me what she looks like when she's tired. Her head rests on her chin and when she blinks her eyes go slow. Like now.

Jake was already passed out next to me, and thank God he wasn't resting his head on me. I don't think I could've delt with him and Mason both weighing down on me.

Mason was snuggling into me and I could feel his breath deepening.

"Number 14." Logan's side of his mouth tipped up into a smirk.

"What!?" I yelled causing Mason to jump up. "No one here can street race. I thought that was a joke."

"Calm down Princess." His grin held every ounce of arrogance in the world, but it looked good on him.

Mason grumbled even though he was half asleep, "Hey. Only I call her Princess."

"Not anymore." I rolled my eyes at the two boys behavior, but ignored it otherwise.

"So how are we planning on doing that? This Jeep isn't really street racing material. Well, at least not here it's not." Mason leaned his head back on me and I tried to keep my volume down so he could sleep.

"You've just got to trust me Princess." My heart fluttered when he said Princess again.

I looked out the window, letting my mind wander over todays events.

Mason and Logan found out about my brother, my dad made an attempt on my life, and now this.

So much happened today that it seemed like school this morning was a week ago.

"What're you thinking about?" Logan's voice startled me, causing me to jump a little, but Mason remained sleeping.

"Nothing." I tipped my head back against the head rest and sighed.

Logan cut the radio, "Come on Day. You can't lie to me. What's going on in that head of yours?"

"Today's been a rough day, that's all." I closed my eyes and imagined I was reaching out to grab the back of sleep so I could make it mine.

"Yeah you've had a rough day. Why don't you sleep? We still have almost a hour until we get to the place we're going." I cracked open an eye to look at him.

"Are you sure you don't mind me sleeping? I can stay up if you want." He smiled in the rear view mirror at me.

"Of course I don't mind you sleeping." I closed my eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep thinking about how Logan's hair gave the sky right now a run for it's money.

~~~~~
Logan pulled to a stop and parked the car, unintentional waking me up.
Silently he got out of the car and closed the door.
I raised my head off of Mason and watched as he walked over to another car parked a few yards in front of us.
For the first time I could hear music in the distance and cheering, along with the revving of several engines.
I took a good look at our surroundings and realized we were in a shipping yard. Large crates were stacked three or four high and built make shift walls.
On the other side of the 'wall' to our left were lights and it sounded like that's where all the noise was coming from.
I looked back to Logan as I saw him take a pair of keys from the person in the car. He walked back to us and got in.
"Are we here?" He turned to look at me with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Yup. On the other side of those crates is where the racers and everything is. I just had to meet up with someone so I could get their car, which is also on the other side of the crates." He started the engine and we drove to the scene.
Cars and people packed the area.
Along the wall where we just were was a makeshift bar. People flocked to that, but a good group of people also surrounded two cars side my side.
They started up and the group backed up, giving them space to pull up to the start line. A woman wearing black shorts and a white top walked between them and raised the flag.
When she dropped it, the cars took off.
My mouth hung open in amazement.
They were driving so fast that you couldn't even see them for a minute because of the amount of dirt they kicked up.
Logan kept driving and pulled into a line of other regular, non-racing, type of cars.
He cut the engine and everyone woke up. "We're here already? Man I only slept for like twenty minutes." Jake said between yawns and stretching.
"Yeah right. More like a hour." He shot me a glare and we all climbed out of the car.
"Hey! It's Logan!" A group of people who weren't to far away walked towards us.
"What's up guys? It's been awhile!" He hugged everyone in the group.
It wasn't that big of a surprise that Logan was friends with these people. One of the guys was pretty average looking, but I could tell he was special by the way he had his sleeves rolled up, exposing the Rolex on his wrist.
Then there was the guy who stood slightly behind him with his arms crossed.
Even though he didn't look to approachable he still gave Logan a nod when he walked up to him.
He had black spiky hair that appeared even darker then Logan's. Different tattoos ran up and down both of his arms and he had both ears pierced. Black skinny jeans clung to his legs and a black tight fight shirt clung to his body which showed off the fact that he obviously worked out.
I was staring at him when his eyes found mine. I sucked in a breath when I saw them.
His eyes were icy blue and looked dangerous. They stood out on him especially in the night.
I looked away before long and Charlotte whispered in my ear, "Damn. He's almost hotter than Logan." I rolled my eyes at her when I saw Logan hug the last person in the small group.
She was probably an inch taller than me and had shoulder length blonde hair. She wore blue jean cut off shorts that were probably three inches to short and a size to small. Not to make anything better, her shirt was a crop top that barely covered her bra.
"Logan! I've missed you so much!" She wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a hug that lasted a little too long. "What's taken you so long to come back? Has school been weighing down on you to much? You know I've told you, that I can help you with all of that."
I rolled my eyes and tried to ignore the way my stomach twisted in knots when he didn't automatically push her off of him. I whispered to Charlotte, "Look at the Barbie. I bet you she's probably screwed every guy here twice."
We busted up laughing when Jake poked his head between us, "Be careful Daytona. Your jealousy is showing and someone's watching."
I thought he was talking about Logan so I shot my eyes towards the group but found myself staring into icy blue eyes instead.
When I didn't look away this time he left the group and walked towards me. "The names Jordan. Jordan Pierce. You are?"
"Daytona. Daytona Lyn. Nice to meet you." I turned and focused back on the interaction between Logan and Barbie.
Jordan followed my gaze, "Are you Logan's girl?"
I shook my head, "No. I'm just his friend."
He gave me a knowing side glance. "Just friends huh? Cause the way you're watching those two says otherwise."
Sighing I hung my head, "We're just friends." I let my voice trail off at the end.
Jordan draped his arm around my shoulders, "Shall we introduce you to everyone else?"
He guided me towards the rest of the group.
"Let's get introductions out of the way shall we guys?" Our group of 5 added onto their group of three and we all introduced ourselves.
"I'm Jake Teller." He ran his hands through his hair, looking slightly uncomfortable.
"Charlotte Casidy." The average looking guy cat called under his breath and I shot him a glare.
"Lindsay Johnson." She wrapped herself around Logan's arm and I sent gag motions to Charlotte.
"Logan Wylde. You all know me." He gave an almost-real smile.
"Mason Sealie." He looked just as uncomfortable as Jake.
"Ben Davidson." He winked at Charlotte and she sent gagging motions to me.
"Jordan Pierce." He still had his arm around me shoulder and I could see Logan's eyes narrow towards him a little bit.
"Daytona Lyn. Nice to meet you all." I sent everyone a cheery smile and hopped I didn't have to interact with anyone else other than Jordan.
A cars engine startled all of us and we turned around to see a gold Lambo roll up towards us.
Logan walked up to the driver, "Is this it?"
"Yup. Have at it. Don't damage her to bad or the boss will be upset." He stepped out of the car and walked away.
Jordans face remained passive but his tone dipped down, "You're driving his car. How'd you get the hookup?"
"He got it from me." Jake and Jordan exchanged glances and suddenly I felt like everyone was in on a joke and I was the child who couldn't possibly understand no matter how many times you told me.
"Hey Char," I turned to my left but Charlotte and Ben weren't with us anymore. I looked around a bit but couldn't see them anywhere.
The two cars who were racing when we pulled up, passed the finish line and everyone around us cheered.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't Logan Wylde." An unknown voice and the sound of multiple footsteps came up behind us.
I rolled my eyes and cursed under my breath, "How many more people will I be introduced to."
We turned around to see a group of maybe eight people who were all wearing leather jackets and I noticed the main guy (who I'm assuming was the leader) had a tattoo of a small gun underneath his left eye.
I had seen the guy before, but I couldn't place where.
Logan and Jordan took a defensive step in front of me. "What do you want?" I could hear the hostility in Logan's voice and it scared me. I had never heard Logan like this.
"Well I noticed you're back around and that you're driving his car." The leader (who I decided to call Tattoo) glanced at Jake and I saw him take a step back. "So I decided I want to race you."
As if noticing me for the first time, Tattoo leaned to his side. Jordan pushed me further behind him and it only made me more confused.
"What are you guys hiding behind you?" He took a step towards us and Logan and Jordan pushed me away a little bit.
"Nothing of your concern." Jordans voice held a dangerous edge.
This seemed to keep Tattoo at bay for a minute and he continued with his earlier conversation, "So how about a simple race? Just Jordan, you, me, and the dirt under our tires."
I had absolutely no clue what was going on, and usually I would've stepped out if someone was trying to put me behind them, but this time, something told me to stay hidden.
"We'll do it." Logan and Jordan started to turn around when Tattoo called out to them.
"You can't leave yet. We haven't talked about who gets what if they win." Both of their eyes grew in fear.
Slowly, they turned back around. "Okay. What do you want?" I still stood behind Logan and Jordan, almost out of sight.
A sinister smile crept onto Tattoo's face. "If I win the race, I want that pretty little thing you're keeping all to yourselves." He leaned over to his side again and waved to me. I shrank and pulled myself further into Jordan.
"What?! You can't have Day!" Logan took a step towards Tattoo, but Jordan grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
"Think through this Logan. If you act out now and refuse to race, he'll take her on his own terms. But if you race you have a chance to save her." Logan's chest heaved up and down with ragged breaths, but eventually he stepped back into place.
"Fine. We agree to your terms,"
"What?! No we don't! I do not agree to go with this creep if he wins!" Jordan whipped around and covered my mouth.
"Shut up and stay out of sight. You're only causing yourself more trouble Daytona." He let go of my mouth and this time I stayed quiet.
Tattoo cocked his head to the side and his sickening smile grew. "A feisty one isn't she. I like then feisty. So Logan, what happens if you win?"
"If Jordan or I win, then you have to stay away from Daytona. And that means keeping your little puppets away from her too. You can't try in anyway to reach her." Logan's voice was strong and cold.
Tattoo seemed to weigh in his mind the wagers of the race. "Sounds good to me. If I loose I promise to stay away from the girl."
"And if we loose," Logan swallowed before continuing, "then I'll hand her over to you."
My heart race quickened as they shook each others hands. Beads of swear collected at the back of my neck and my hands began to shake as I realized what was happening.
I was being raced over.
"Daytona. I am so sorry. I never should've brought you here. I knew there was a chance he would show up, but I brought you here anyways. Now you might have to go with that scum bag if we loose." He touched his forehead to mine and I grabbed his hands.
"Hey, lighten up. There's two of you racing. That means you have the odds on your side." I let go of his hands and stepped away from the two. "Now will someone tell me what the hell that was and who the hell he is."
Jordan and Logan exchanged glances before Logan spoke up, "Jordan will explain some things to you. You'll be riding with him when we race. I can't trust you with Jake or Mason but yourself. Colton can easily take you if he wants to."
I followed Jordan to his car, which was a silver Stingray, and climbed in the passenger seat.
"So do you mind telling me what's going on and why I'm his target?" Jordan got in the car and closed the door, resting his hands on the steering wheel.
"You know about the Loaded Guns?" His voice remained steady.
"The Loaded Guns? As in the most powerful gang in San Francisco?!" He nodded his head and started his car. "Okay, so what does this have to do with me?"
He sighed and we pulled up to the start line and waited for everyone else to do the same, "The man who were racing against is Colton Derry, the gangs leader. He's super dangerous and will do anything to get what he wants."
"Okay but why does he want me? And Colton Derry, I've heard that name before." I racked my brain trying to figure out where I knew him from.
As the other two pulled up on either side of us Jordan continued, "He'll do anything to make the people who left his gang pay, that includes hurting the people they love."
"Wait, I don't know anyone in his gang." My heart pounded faster.
Does this mean someone I know is in a gang? Or I guess was in the gang.
Who could it be? No one I know has the heart to be in a gang, and the people who did have the heart, don't care about me enough for Colton to go after me.
"Hey don't worry so much," he placed a hand on my knee, "Logan or I will win this race and you'll be fine."
I nodded my head and looked out the window at the car Logan was driving.
The flag girl from earlier walked out and raised her flag, when she dropped it we took off.
The car was going so fast it felt like we were floating on air.
"Have you ever raced before?" I shook my head no and he laughed, "Well what a perfect opportunity to teach you."
I realized that even though he laughed, he never smiled.
"Okay. Teach me how to race." He chuckled a little bit.
"Are you sure about this? It can get pretty scary."
"I'm sure."
"Okay see this curve coming up?" I nodded my head and he continued, "Okay so the way you take one of these is you keep going deep into the curve and then give a little steering input, then accelerate."
He did everything as he said it and sure enough we took the curve perfectly and even managed to speed up as we did it.
As we kept racing, the streets became less lit and the shipping containers became fewer.
"Hold on tight Daytona." We took a sharp turn through two metal crates and pulled out right infront of Colton. Logan was still out of sight.
After that turn, I could start to see lights and people in the distance and I knew we were going to win-
Until Colton speed up and cut us off, promptly slamming on his brakes so we crashed into the back of him.
I flew forward and hit my arms on the dash, the seat belt jerked me back. That's going to leave a bruise, I thought.
"Jordan?" His breathing was heavy so I knew he was still conscious, but I didn't know if he had any injuries.
"Daytona? Are you okay?"
"Physically yea." But my heart hammered as I watched the back of Colton's car drive towards the finish line.
Hey guys! Sorry it took me so long to update this chapter. I tried to get it out as soon as possible, so sorry it's kind of crappy.
This A/N is also going to be short because I'm mega tired but I love you all! 😘❤
