《Oh Captain My Captain! (Haikyuu)》Chapter 40

Walking into the gym for day two of the tournament was just as nerve wracking as day one. The guys seemed to be more at ease, you didn't know if it was a matter of confidence in their abilities or if they were genuinely excited to play. You on the other hand were very nervous, knowing that it would only get harder for them going forward.
"Will you stop it with the face?" Kuroo laughed from beside you.
"I'm not making a face" you gave his arm a light punch.
"I'd listen to him, you're starting to get deep wrinkles on your forehead" Tanaka joked as he ruffled your hair.
"I'm glad you guys can be so calm, knowing you most likely will be facing "The Great King" and Ushijima" you couldn't stop yourself from mocking Oikawa's title.
"Did you call me Princess?" an all too familiar voice said from behind you, with a deep sigh you turned around with a clearly annoyed face.
"Of course you would just happen to show up at this exact moment" you sneered at him.
"Well when a beautiful girl calls for me, I must entertain her, I like to think I'm a giving King." He said with a wink.
"A giver of headaches maybe" you rolled your eyes.
"I've given you much more than that, and I'd be down to do that again" he smirked and reached out running his fingers along your jaw. "You didn't cover my mark very well today" he teased as he slid his fingers down your neck over the darkened skin. You reached up slapping a hand over the area suddenly remembering it was there.
"That's enough Shittykawa" Iwaizumi said grabbing his wrist and pulling it away from you. "I'm sorry he bothered you" he said giving you a slight bow. He pulled Oikawa away after him towards the gym, in that moment though you wished he had dragged you away instead because now a dozen pairs of eyes were staring you down.
"Can we not judge me please?" you groaned still holding your hand tightly to your neck.
"It's bad enough you brought a Nekoma member, our sworn enemy, BUT NOW I FIGURE OUT YOU GOT A HICKEY FROM OIKAWA" Noya scolded.
"Did you..... did you... with Oikawa?" Hinata shyly asked.
"Are you just trying to collect all the Captains?" Tsukki said rudely.
"That's enough questions, come with my y/n" Kiyoko said stepping around them and grabbing your hand, she quickly led you to the nearest bathroom. Once inside she let you have a moment while she checked that the bathroom was empty.
"Are you okay?" She asked looking at you concerned.
"Yes I'm fine, I hate myself as much as they hate me for that one." You said shaking your head.
"It's none of my business, but if you hate him so much, why did you let him do this to you?" She asked as she lightly pressed her fingers to the slightly noticeable mark.

"I don't hate him...... I just think he is far too arrogant for his own good. Things honestly just got out of control the other day, I was literally telling him how awful he was and then he kissed me and I..... liked it, and then yea...." You gave your body a disgusted shake at the words that had just come out of your mouth.
"He is quite handsome, I can see how that would happen" She said laughing "Sometimes I wish I was as brave as you, you just follow your heart and have fun doing it" She blushed slightly saying it.
"If you keep blushing like that I might just get a lot more brave" You joked giving her a wink, her eyes went wide. "I'm only joking, Tanaka would be devastated and I could never do that to my best friend." You said laughing at her terrified expression.
"Tanaka? He is just a friend......." She said shyly.
"Yea for now, but that boy has been in love with you since the moment he saw you. One day you will get over your shyness and give him a chance and you will both be happier for it. Anyways lets get back out there" you said turning towards the door.
"Wait let me put some makeup on that" she said grabbing your hand and turning you towards her. She pulled a small bag out of her backpack and dug around until she found some powder. She dabbed it over the area, it wasn't a great color match but would at least make it harder to see. "Okay all done, lets go" she said putting it back in her bag.
The guys were nowhere in sight when you exited the bathroom, but they were quickly found out on the court warming up for their match. Deciding it'd be better to just let them get ready you made your way up into the stands to find a still worried looking Yachi and a grumpy looking Kuroo. You joined Yachi at the railing and looked down taking in the team you would be playing.
The team didn't really seem like anything amazing, but their Captain had a very loud cheering section. When the match began they only seemed to cheer louder, which you found annoying. This game wasn't as exciting as the one on the day before, this team seemed to think things out more and were quick to learn our moves.
"Just going to ignore me huh?" Kuroo asked stepping up beside you catching your attention.
"I wasn't ignoring you, I just thought you needed a moment" You said smiling up at him.
"That was probably a good call..... can I ask you one question?" he asked with a heavy sigh.
"I don't think that would be a good idea, I fear that the answer would only make matters worse" you answered honestly.
"Your probably right, but I need to know, do you like him?" he asked.

"Not really, he actually really annoys me and infuriates me. It was just a lapse in judgement that I hope everyone eventually forgives me for, Noya seemed really upset for some reason." You explained.
"Then why?" Kuroo asked.
"Please don't make me answer that, I don't have a way to answer it without hurting your feelings or making you more upset" you said looking up at him sincerely.
"Okay.... Ill drop it. I need some air though, will you go on a walk with me?" he asked extending his hand to you.
"Of course, one second" you said with a smile. You turned back towards Yachi but her eyes were glued to what was happening on the court. The teams were in a long rally, each team working hard to not let the ball hit the ground. Daichi dove digging up a ball after a three person block, he barely got it up and Noya hit it a second time getting back into the air. Daichi hurried back up onto his feet and started running towards the ball that was falling fast, in the blink of an eye he rammed hard into the side of Tanaka, the ball still flying over the net and scoring a point. The crowd cheered loudly but you clamped your hands over your mouth trying to not release the scream that erupted inside at the sight of Daichi laying unmoving on the ground.
"Oh no" Yachi breathed out.
"DAICHI!!!!!!!!" you screamed out, you turned on your heel to run to him when a hand grabbed your wrist.
"Y/n wait, he is okay look" Kuroo said trying to pull you back towards him, you pulled his hand away and sprinted toward the gym floor. When you hit the bottom you turned towards the gym doors and flung them open, Daichi was walking towards them with Ukai beside him. Tears streamed down your face at the sight of him and you couldn't stop your feet from running at him. Ukai flashed you a look of concern so you halted in your sprint, freezing in place.
"Don't you dare worry about hurting me, come here" Daichi said opening his arm to you. You took the invite and launched into his arm, wrapping your arms tightly around his neck. he stumbled slightly but caught you and wrapped his arm around you to hold you in place and kept walking, still using his one hand to hold the rag to his mouth where the blood was leaking out.
"You really should get down, before you hurt him more" Ukai scolded. Fearing you were actually making things worse, you wiggled to get down but Daichi tightened his grip around you.
"Please don't, this actually makes me feel a lot better. I do need you to stop crying though, I don't have a free hand to wipe away your tears" he said with a half smile, he gently kissed a tear that was running down your cheek.
"DAMNIT WILL YOU JUST LISTEN TO ME FOR ONCE!" Ukai yelled more at you than at him, he ran his hands through his hair and took a deep breath. "We don't know what all is wrong right now and I don't need you straining yourself more, we have an entire team that needs you out there, so please take it easy" He said in a much calmer voice.
Daichi looked at you and gave a slight nod, you unlocked your legs from around his waist and dropped to your feet. He took your hand in his and continued the walk to the Dr like that, once you all got to the door Ukai took a seat outside and you walked in with Daichi.
The Dr did a quick exam and determined that Daichi was mostly okay, his cheek would bruise and his mouth would ache a good bit from losing the tooth though. He gave Daichi something to ease the pain and suggested he rest for a bit before sliding the curtain closed on the two of you.
"Come" Daichi said scooting over on the small bed.
"You need to rest though, like Coach said they need you out there" you said shaking your head.
"I'll rest much better if you are next to me" he insisted. You got up from your chair and gently laid in the bed, curling into his body. He smelled lightly of sweat and blood but you didn't care, being in his arms made the worry you had felt disappear.
"I'm so glad your okay" you breathed out into his solid chest.
"Me too, I don't like seeing you so sad. I forgot about the pain when I saw the pain you were in, I don't ever want to see you like that again. I've never wanted to protect you more than I did in that moment." His voice was so kind and gentle, he stroked your hair as he said it.
"I didn't mean to worry you, I just lost myself there for a moment. I saw you collide with him and then you didn't get up and my heart just shattered. My feet just moved and brought me to you so fast that I couldn't even think, I just knew I needed to find you." you started to sniffle again as you replayed the accident in your mind.
"Stop that" Daichi commanded as he lifted your face towards his "I'm fine! I'm so happy to know you care about me so much and it just makes me fall even harder for you. Now stop crying and kiss me" he said with a smile.
"But wont it hurt" you said gently touching your finger tips to his already bruising cheek.
"It's worth it"
