Once above ground, Newt, Tina, and Penelope were reunited with Queenie and Jacob, who both looked absolutely relieved to see them alive. Jacob held onto Newt's suitcase tightly, a crooked smile on his lips as he approached his friend.

"I figured somebody ought to keep an eye on this thing," the No-Maj joked, handing the magical suitcase to Newt.

Newt stared at it for a moment before taking it, looking up at Jacob and smiling. "Thank you."

"We owe you an apology, Mr. Scamander," Serephina Picquery said as she pushed past Kawolski, looking at Newt with a smile on her face. "And you too, Miss Finch, for depriving you of the magical education you obviously deserve."

Penelope couldn't help but smile at the woman's words, for once feeling something other than anger towards the President.

"But the Magical Community is exposed," Picquery continued as she looked at the gigantic hole in the ground before them. "We cannot obliviate an entire city..."

"Actually," Newt murmured, looking to the ground as he spoke. "I think we can."

He placed his suitcase on the ground in front of him, opening it and stepping back. He turned to the President of MACUSA. "If you excuse me, I may be a moment," he said politely, though Picquery only nodded. Newt then looked towards Penelope expectedly. "I may need your help in here, Penny. I need you to come with me."

Penelope was confused, though she didn't argue as she followed Newt into the magically expanding suitcase. "What are you up to?" she asked him as they stepped out of the familiar wooden building and into the magical paradise.

"Frank," Newt told her simply without looking back; there was a hint of sadness in his voice, and Penelope knew he wasn't looking forward to letting one of his creatures free. She followed closely behind Newt as he approached the Thunderbird, his face immediately lighting up at the sight of the magnificent golden beast.

The Thunderbird landed on the rocks in front of Newt, folding its numerous wings against its silky body. Newt reached up and stroked the beast's beak, causing its yellow eyes to close slightly.

Minutes later, Penelope followed Newt as he approached the wooden building that served as the entrance once more. Once inside, Newt grabbed a black trench coat that hung on a single chair in the corner of the room. Holding it up, he turned to Penelope.

"Piquery is more than likely gonna have Mr. Kawolski obliviated with the rest of the muggles," he explained, a glint of sadness appearing in his blue eyes. "If that's the case, I want to give him some memory of this world."

As he spoke, he walked over to the messy table on the far side of the building, rummaging through the mess of papers on the surface. Penelope walked towards him, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion of what he was doing. Newt then picked up a stack of picture with various sketches of magical beasts on it. Glancing towards Penelope, he quickly folded the paper up, not bothering to make it neat, and stuffed it into the pocket of Kawolski's jacket.

Newt scrunched his nose as if he were trying to contain his emotions, turning towards Penelope and forcing a smile as he looked at the woman. "Right, I think it's time we do what we have to do."

Out of the suitcase, Tina, Jacob, Queenie, and MACUSA were patiently waiting for the pair as they reappeared into reality. Newt pursed his lips as he stepped out of his suitcase, helping Penelope out afterwards. The pair took a step backwards just as Frank the Thunderbird exploded from the case, rising into the air with a loud call.

Turning around, Penelope saw her friends staring at the bird in awe; MACUSA, however, seemed horrified. The beautiful golden beast landed on the ground in front of Newt, cooing as if greeting the man who had taken it in. Picquery stepped up beside Newt, looking at the Brit with a confused expression.

The Thunderbird picked at the feathers of its wings as Newt approached it, a small smile on his face. "I was intending to wait until we got to Arizona," he told the beast, his voice laced with sadness. "But it seems like now you're already home, Frank." The Thunderbird stared at Newt with wide yellow eyes, seeming as if it understand every word the man was saying.

Newt leaned towards the beast, running his hand across its golden head as a single tear fell from his eyes. The Thunderbird nuzzled the man, cooing deeply as if trying to comfort him. "I'll miss you, too," Newt murmured, turning away from the bird and closing his eyes for a moment. Penelope's heart seemed to crack as she stared at him and his beast, understanding the deep bond the pair shared.

Newt suddenly backed away from the Thunderbird as Frank straightened his posture, flapping his magnificent wings. Newt pulled a vile out of his pocket, filled with bright blue glowing liquid; Penelope recognized it as Swooping Evil venom. She looked at him with furrowed eyebrows, wondering why he had it.

"You know what you've got to do," Newt said to the beast as he held up the vile of venom, and the Thunderbird seemed to nod. He then threw the vile into the air as hard as he could; Frank jumped up with a single powerful flap of his wings, catching the vile in his mouth and rising into the sky.

Several shocked gasps and screams came from around the city as No-Majs all around caught sight of the fantastic beast. Newt watched as Frank rose into the sky, disappearing into the rising sun. Penelope stepped up so that she was standing beside him, grabbing his hand as she saw tears in the man's eyes.

As the Thunderbird's call echoed through the city, dark clouds covered the sky, and a heavy rain suddenly began to fall. Shielded by the destruction of the subway, the wizards, witches, and Kawolski were sheltered from the obliviation storm.

"Swooping Evil venom can be used to erase bad memories," Newt explained softly from beside her, still staring into the sky in hopes of catching a glimpse of his beast. "If it's properly diluted."

The No-Majs that were standing around the subway suddenly closed their eyes, reopening them moments later looking very confused. They looked around them, shielding themselves from the ran as they all began to run for cover.

"It seems like it's properly diluted," Penelope commented with a small laugh, though she felt her heart sink, as she knew what was coming next.

MACUSA agents began to rebuild the demolished city around them, not worrying about the hundreds of No-Majs around them, as they would be obliviated with every rain drop that touched them.

The subway tunnels around them then began to be rebuilt, the view of the world above them disappearing as the hole was filled once more.

Newt then turned to Serephina Picquery with sadness evident on his face. "They won't remember anything," he told the MACUSA President. "Swooping Evil venom has powerful obliviating abilities."

"You're at great debt, Mr. Scamander," Picquery said slowly, watching the British man with respect. "Now, get that case out of New York."

Newt stared at her for a moment, his eyes snapping to Penelope for a moment before he answer her. "Yes, Madam President."

With that, Picquery turned around, leading the remainder of the MACUSA agents towards the exit of the subway. Before she left, however, she turned back to the group with a guilty look on her face.

"You're going to have to obliviate the No-Maj that stands with you," she said, looking to Penelope sternly as if challenging her to object. "There can be no exceptions. I'm sorry, but even one witness... you know the law. We'll let you say goodbye."

Penelope looked to the ground, closing her eyes in attempt to keep the tears from falling. She had grown to like the No-Maj who she had met on the street of her house. She didn't want to see his memory of them go.

The exit of the subway was thankfully covered by a small building surrounded by glass. The group stepped out into the world above them, still shielding from the obliviating rain. Jacob Kawolski stood at the front of them, staring at each of them in turn with sadness in his eyes. Queenie stood right beside him, her hand glued to his arm as if he was about to disappear forever.

"Hey," he spoke suddenly, his voice cracking as he did so. "This is for the best. Yeah, I was- I was never even supposed to be here." The No-Maj was obviously trying to make the best of out the situation, cracking an obviously forced smile, though nothing seemed to cheer the group up.

"I was never supposed to know of any of this," Jacob continued, his voice raising with emotion. "Everyone already knows Newt only kept me around 'cause..." Newt looked up at him with wide, tear-filled eyes, waiting to hear what Kawolski had to say. "Hey, Newt, why did you keep me around?"

"Because I like you," Newt told him, shooting him a small, crooked smile. "Because you're my friend. And I'll never forget how you helped me, Jacob."

Jacob pursed his lips, looking at the cloudy sky as he tried not to cry. "Oh," he whispered.

"Hey," Queenie suddenly said, approaching Jacob slowly and cupping his cheek. "I'll come with you, okay? We'll go somewhere, anywhere. Honey, I ain't never gonna find anyone like you."

Penelope found herself smiling at their pair, and she glanced in Newt's direction quickly, surprised to find the Brit watching her closely.

"There's plenty like me," Jacob argued with a smile.

"No, of course not," Queenie objected, leaning closer to the No-Maj. "There's only one like you."

That was when tears began to fall down Jacob's cheeks, and he looked away from the blonde-haired witch. "I gotta go," he whispered reluctantly, starting to back away from the group.

"Jacob," Penelope suddenly said, pursing her lips as she looked up at her new friend. "I'll never forget you."

"You neither, Miss Finch," Jacob responded with a smile. "Nor your crazy fire bird." He then closed his eyes, his shoulders shaking as he began to sob. Newt stepped towards him, placing his hand on the man's shoulder in attempt to calm him down. "Hey, it's okay. It's just like waking up, right? Waking up from a crazy, wonderful dream..."

It was then that Jacob closed his eyes, slowly backing out of the shelter of the subway entrance. The rain immediately soaked him from head to toe, and Penelope closed her eyes in attempt to fight the tears. It didn't work.

Queenie raised her wand in the air, and a transparent umbrella appeared above her head. She stepped out into the rain, approaching Jacob and cupping the man's cheek. Slowly, she leaned in and pressed her lips to his, kissing him slowly as all of his memories were erased.

Penelope turned to look at Newt, watching him stare at the pair with bloodshot eyes. He then glanced over at the woman beside him, shooting her a forced smile as he wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer to him as if he were afraid she, too, would forget about him.

Queenie reluctantly pulled away from Jacob Kawolski, backing up into the shelter of the subway once more just as the No-Majs eyes opened. He looked around him in confusion for a moment as if he were trying to recall his memories, though nothing worked.

Shaking his head as if he were trying to knock himself into sanity, he ran his hand through his soaked hair before stuffing his hands into the pockets of his trousers, crossing street with a skip in his step.

"Newt?" Penelope suddenly asked, staring after the No-Maj sadly. Newt turned to look at her, an eyebrow cocked. "You gave him his jacket?"

Newt said nothing. He only wrapped his arm around her waste, a smirk on his lips as he stared after the No-Maj as he disappeared into the crowd.
