I never realized how much I miss having Credence next to me. I've spent so many years hating on him, but he only pushed me away so I wouldn't get hurt. We laid in my bed, hand in hand. Just like we did when he would come over. But this time he doesn't have any cuts or burns. He's actually well.
"I'm not going to lie the new hair cut suits you," I began.
Credence laughed. We just laid there looking up at the ceiling. That's how our friendship works. There would be silence from time to time, but it wouldn't be uncomfortable. It was those, I'm here for you moments. A bright idea came to me and I got up.
Credence furrowed his brows. "What are you doing?" I went over to my drawer and grabbed my sketchbook before showing him it. He chuckled. "Another memory you wanted to capture?"
I jumped on the bed. "Yep." I opened to the next blank page. "Now, hold still."
Credence laughed again before staying still. I've got my best friend back after so many years. You bet I'm going to draw him. And now that I've said it out loud sounds a lot creepy.
But that's what I've been doing for the past half an hour. I didn't get the right shade, but it was just enough to show who Credence really is. I smiled as I showed him the portrait, which he nodded his head in approval.
"You've gotten better," he said.
I nodded as I set the book aside. "Yeah. And a few of them are hung in Jacob's bakery." I actually have a job there as one of the cashiers.
He gave me a confused look. "Are you sure that's ok? Since your chocolate allergy and all."

I gave him a small smile. "You still remember?"
He nodded as he sat up. He pulled his the leg part of his pants before revealing a small syringe in his right sock. He pulled it out and held it up.
"Still carry this with me." He shrugged his shoulders. "Never know when you're going to need it."
I let out a happy breath before pulling him for a side hug. "How did I ever believe that you didn't want to be friends with me?" Credence wrapped his arm around me. "Or the fact that you have magic?" I pulled away. "You're not going to go all Obscural on me."
"Go what?" He asked.
"You know." I motioned my hands around and started moving them. My hands spinning around going up, down, side to side as I made an exploding noise. "Phew. Phew. Pooof."
If anything, Credence looked even more confused. "No? I actually feel fine."
I sighed in relief. "Oh, thank god."
Credence nodded before he looked at me. "Actually, this isn't just a catching up visit. I - I came to say goodbye."
Goodbye? What?
"Goodbye?" I ask. "Credence?"
He shook his head. "My whole life, I've been mistreated. Abused by some woman who isn't even my mother. I know she's somewhere out there. I - I have to find her. I need to find out who I really am -"
"But you already know who you are? You're Credence. You're shy. You're caring. Out of everyone on this planet you deserve something good." And maybe...that something good is finding himself. Merlin's beard, he's right. I slowly bit my lip and nodded. "Ok, but I'm coming with you."
"I can't let you do that. You have a life here, Alina. Friends. Family -"
"Credence, you are my family." I started crying. "I just got you back and now you're leaving -"
"It's not going to be forever. I'll see you again." We embraced each other.
I held on. "I don't want you to go." Credence placed his head on top of mine. "You sure I can't come with?"
He shook his head. "This is something I have to do on my own."

The Scarlet Knight is a short story that takes place in the same universe as The Reborn. There are elements of Gamelit inside, but nothing too extensive. I write the Scarlet Knight on my phone, so there are grammatical issues inside. You do not have to read The Reborn to enjoy this story.
