《THE FORGOTTEN DAD》CHAPTER 41

"That message! That filthy message?! You are the one behind this, isn't?" Mark asked furiously. He knew Park Chanyeol used him as a scapegoat only to make him stay away from Y/N. Think again, does it make any sense for him to send those dirty message in this situation? He barely survives worrying about his son in the hospital.

Park Chanyeol smirked. Everything he did make Mark angrier. "I told you by the time she comes to see you and Jisung is going to be the last time you're gonna be free outside." The President of Park Legacy reminded him his forewarn from their conversation on the other day.

"I'm not the type of guy who would break the promise he made," he continued arrogantly.

Mark smoldered inside with his shaking cuffed hands. If not because both of them were in the interrogation room, he would beat this evil bastard deadly. He knew he was on the weak side right now. No one would took side for him for what he did to Y/N. Everyone was angry at him especially Park Chanyeol and Jeon Jungkook. They need someone to blame for unexpected turn-around ending.

He messed up. He knew it well.

For that he wanted to let Y/N realized the only man she needed to be with is Jeon Jungkook. But why? Why and how Park Chanyeol came out of sudden and ruined everything? Who is he to interfere as if he knew Y/N longer than he did?

"She doesn't love you," Mark finally released his words as if he acknowledged his loses.

Park Chanyeol seemed like he was gathered his breath. Mark could see he was annoyed with what he just said to him.

"We got a lot of differences here, Mr. Tuan," Mark saw him began to get up from the chair. "Maybe Y/N never have a feeling for me. But I never force someone to be with me, knowing well she loves somebody else," Park Chanyeol accused him bluntly.

'Do you really love me?'

Maybe Park Chanyeol was right. Maybe he seemed to put a hard pressure on Y/N for her to accept him in her life. He was desperately heartbroken.

But that day...

That day... changed... everything...

'Please never let go of my hand...'

And it giving Mark a hope that this relationship might could have worked. That he was the right guy for Y/N.

So started from that day, he swore himself he would never let go of her hand. The same day Jeon Jungkook also swore himself he would let her go and chose to save his company.

Because of that, for two years he thought that he was done the right decision separating Jungkook from his wife and daughter. His hatred to Jungkook was enough to blame that man was a cold-blooded monster, the type of guy who would done anything in exchange for wealth.

What goes around, comes around. Right?

Who would know he was the real victim in this conspiracy? Jennie came looking for a help and he gave her a hand, guarantee his life with his father that he can beat Jungkook in this world without expecting the real mastermind was Park Chanyeol.

He wondered if Park Chanyeol knew about his mental health problem and planning to use him against Jungkook without getting his hands dirty. That wicked guy knows too well to play! He knows how to use the trick on the right time!

Both of Jungkook and him were defeated good.

"So what are your plan after this? Marry her and be a good man that she could ever had before?" Mark snorted. "Or be a man that how she wished Jungkook could be? You choose, Mr. Park."

Park Chanyeol replied. "Did you ever realize what your mistakes are? I mean, you almost have a happy family. A beautiful wife and an adorable daughter. If you know her well enough, I think everybody can guess Y/N wouldn't never ever leave you and your soon-to-be perfect marriage only for her ex-husband. I know she's happy with you during those days. The one who ruined everything is you. Yourself. Your doubt. Your unending jealousy. It is your mind that believe you are not good enough for her. Have you ever ask how she feel about you? No. You keep on feeding your mind that she doesn't love you for you but she only did that to get back on Jungkook. But she didn't..."

Mark Tuan hardly understood when Park Chanyeol suddenly wanted to become sentimental with him. It quite didn't feel right on him. His expression slightly frowned as Chanyeol continue to speak. "Have you noticed it? She didn't want to go back to Jungkook because he loves you. But you broke her trust by not trusting her. Isn't it something pleasant to watch?"

Mark remembered how bad Jungkook tried to beg her to stay, no matter tears he shed because of her, she just couldn't bear to go back to Jungkook's arms. He couldn't help to wonder if he was the reason behind it. What they had wasn't ordinary, they belonged to each other totally but the purest regret, no matter what, is thinking he didn't love enough.

There were times when I would forget her, though they were rare, and it would be for a time as though she had never existed; and then some passing girl's inadvertent gesture, or an accidental profile, or a hat like hers, would restore her, and restore the suffering too, and I would long again, somehow, to encounter or to see her.

He then heard Park Chanyeol gave a short, derisive laugh. "I gotta say you and Jungkook are quite similar in trusting someone,"

Mark gave him a very unpleasant look. "Do you think by making me the bad guy would give you an extra credit for this?"

"I don't have to. You are already a bad guy to begin with. So I hope that you would stay the same as you are. It would bring such a great benefit in the future," Park Chanyeol said.

He quickly warned. "Be careful, Mr. Park," Mark let out his smirk to be seen before he continued. "The unseen enemy is always the most fearsome."

The prison cell was more like a room in a five star hotel. It was where the corrupt businessmen where held while their charges were fixed higher up the food chain. Everything about it was sumptuous. The bed was king-sized and soft, made up with the finest Egyptian cotton sheets. There were leather armchairs and recliners. There were computers and plasma screen TV's. There were telephones and vases of fresh flowers. The only thing that gave away the room's true purpose was the heavy wooden door with bars at the window, and a guard stationed outside 24/7. Although truth be known, the guard was actually more of a waiter providing room service around the clock, attending to the whims of the 'guests.'

Of course his mother won't let her son to rot in hideous prison cell. For the god sake, he is Mark Tuan, the one and only Tuan legacy's heir. Mark spent almost a week here however there's still any news from his lawyer. Given his talents, using his mental health was his best option to get out from the prison as soon as possible. His brain was racing for ways out for his son.

Know that being my son means something. It means I will protect you to the very last vestige of my power. I will stand before danger come your way, beside you as you find your footing. I won't ever leave you. Not ever. I was there when you came into the world, I saw the divine spark that is your soul kindle in your newborn eyes. Whatever challenges come your way, I am as your father will protect you whatever it takes.

Sadness sits an inch below Mark's face, eyes remaining dry, expression impassive. Not even one thing that might comfort him. His trial is scheduled tomorrow. Despair creeps over him. Will he gets to see Y/N tomorrow?

A steady dripping noise was coming from his left, and underneath that was the sound of distant footsteps. The footfalls became steadily louder; Mark struggled to stand, straining against the tense to see what or who was coming.

"Mr. Tuan," the bodyguard called him once the door was opened.

A man entered his jail cell wearing the same uniform. His face was one of upmost confidence, whatever game this man played he wasn't accustomed to loosing. He smiled like a long lost brother and shook Mark's hand warmly with the perfect squeeze and eye contact. Mark reciprocated, but never would he trust a man so perfect, as far as he was concerned the more perfect the image the greater the danger underneath. Everyone has flaws and quirks, if they had been polished right out then trust wasn't even an option.

"It's done," said Jinyoung before taking a seat and stretched his long legs far in front of him.

"How can I trust you?" Mark replied, irritated.

"You gave Jennie your trust before. She will done her job by any time now," Jinyoung's face tells of a lean body beneath his uniform and his expression is serious but not unkind.

Instead of a fist meeting a fist, let that fist instead meeting unbreakably diffusion and soon everything will be reveal.

It takes your enemy and your friend, working together, to hurt you to the heart: the one to slander you and the other to get the news to you, Park Chanyeol.

His brother Park Jinyoung, the biggest betrayer in this room smile with skeptical. "The truth may not set you free, but used carefully, it can confuse the hell out of your enemies."

Mark cast him a glare. "My enemy is your brother,"

"We have so many enemies, Mr. Tuan," said Jinyoung, keeping his voice light. "It seems you don't know anything about Park Chanyeol. One misstep was all it took, and it all came crashing down. And he was right there waiting for it-eager and ready to bury someone in the wreckage."

"What do you mean?" Mark snapped, letting some of his anger show.

"Everything has consequences. The truth soon will be reveal and it becomes a battle,"

As soon as the words were out of Jinyoung's mouth, Mark knew what will going to happen.

Silence.

Of course they were quiet, some still-functioning part of his mind thought bitterly, but for Jinyoung it's entertaining watching someone melt down not knowing anything to do.

And maybe this whole thing has taught him something else about what kindness is for. Because, looking back at this year, he still basically did fail when he tried to protect everybody. But that doesn't mean his efforts didn't matter.

"Mr. Tuan," another bodyguard came into his jail cell. He looked up to him, nervously.

"Someone is here to see you,"

Jinyoung smiled before getting up from his seat. "Looks like the battle is begin now."

Mark quickly ran towards Jinyoung and blocking him from leaving this room. "Tell me! What's your brother's plan?"

Jinyoung lets out a sneerful laugh. "The damage is done. Someone's gotta pay for it. Guess who?"

"He wanted to kill Jungkook?" Mark guessed but looking how Jinyoung became a little manic, he's definitely right.

Park Chanyeol planned to kill Jeon Jungkook through Jinyoung once his devious sin get known by Y/N. The situation was getting out of hand right now. Mark didn't know what to do. His plan was only to expose Park Chanyeol's hidden side however he didn't expect this was the end of it.

Mark had spotted her from the window. Her expression was so far away, a serenity that never failed to put Mark at ease. Though there were things in life he wanted to give up, Y/N was never on his list. But now, as he looked at her, he know how selfish he has been.

I can't stop loving you. You betray my affections and leave my heart in shattered disarray of pieces. Every single time you steal a part of me, and you make it impossible for me to put myself together. And yet, I always come back around to you. Why is that?

Her emotions were not easily hidden on her innocent face. Her pain was evident in the crease of her lovely brow and the down-curve of her full lips. But her eyes, her eyes showed her soul. They were a deep pool of restless gold, an ocean of hopeless grief.

"It took me two years to give you all of my heart, and you threw it away in one day." Y/N began to talk as soon as Mark sat across her. He know what she means. She already knew the truth. "Was I heartbroken or furious? I didn't know. I did know. That's it. Our relationship could not continue like this, out of balance, unequal."

Mark wanted to apologize everything he had done to her. But would 'sorry' have made any difference? Does it ever? It's just a word. One word against a thousand actions. The word pain does too much work.

Y/N seemed like she needed explanation from him. Unfortunately, she disappointed looking at the silence Mark.

"No matter how much pain you give me, I would never understand. Why? Why you did this to me?" her eyes glimmered with watery tears and she felt as if whole world was about to crumble.

"Well," he sighed, squeezing his empty hand. "I guess we were both running away in different ways."

His words slash like knives. She sobbed and tears flooded like the waters rushing down from a waterfall and the only time she'd stop was to fill her lungs with fresh air.

"Just tell me you don't love me, and I'll let the matter drop." Mark finally make a decision.

"What?"

"What I said. Just say, 'Mark, I never love you'. It's that simple."

"Mark, this is getting us nowhere."

"Say it!" he snapped making her surprised.

As he looked into her eyes he knew, all the beauty of the universe could not even hope to compete with this simple thing: her love to Jungkook. Her love turned her eyes into orbs of the brightest fire, and in them he read clearly that she would fight to the very last tear for her life for Jungkook. She would not let the world break him. Sure she could cry, but she would never let them take Jungkook from her. She clung to it with her love.

"I promised him something," Mark said softly after a while. That there's more going on between him and Jungkook than she ever let on.

Y/N waited for his words, feeling agitated.

He said. "I came to rescue you both. You have every right not to believe me . . . to be mad at me. I know this has been hell. What Park Chanyeol and I did . . . it's broken you."

When he talked her eyes went away from him and then she forced herself to look straight at him and he knew that she felt very strange with him and that she hated him, and it was painful sitting there and talking like that, knowing she hated him.

"I just wanted to tell you that I understand if you go. It's okay if you have to leave Jisung and I. It's okay if you want to forget us as if it never happen."

"No, you don't get to tell me what to do, Mark. You should know I dropped everything just to be with you at that time. I was broken before-

"I was broken before that too." He snapped again. His tortured expression delivers the allegation. "Every moment I had with you and Eva. It made me wonder: Was it even fair to expect the person you're with to be just as happy as you? Furthermore, how could you ever even know for sure? You couldn't, that was the truth of it. You could not know this."

And as surely as he knew this, he knew something else. They can continue to live exactly as they do right now by only letting her go. Isn't that what people do for the sake of love. Don't they ache but rename it tired?

In tears, she responded. "At first I did not love you. I couldn't love you knowing that you're the one who separated Eva from her father. I was frightened. And then I don't know how it was, I couldn't bear to let you go so I got to love you, Mark. But you see, however fondly it ended, it began in the selfish and cruel wish to make his heart ache for me without letting mine ache for him. You have no idea of the amount of happiness you brought to my life. You make me glow. You make me feel good. You make me happy. And that's why I love you."

He could leave. She could leave. But instead of leave, they both end up heartbroken, sitting on the floor of their souls and trying to piece together their lives again.

As he observed her sitting there, a heavy look in his eyes, he longed to reach behind that barrier and pull her into his arms. But he can't simply do it anymore knowing that the same person was ever hurting her badly.

Because of that, Mark appeared to be cold like he used to be. "I can't help but hate you, Y/N. Why do you do this? How can you not feel what I feel? I can't stop feeling hurt. I can't stop these emotions running through me. So, I'm asking you how you can just lie to me. You don't love me at all. That night proved everything."

"None of them are real to me." He paused again, sweeping a tear that threatened to fall down. "I asked you that night, the night I came back after our first fight, if he ever comes to visit you and you denied the whole thing. You lied to me as if I am nothing to you. You cried for him that night. Never because of me. So don't come and tell me that you loved me when the truth is you love him all along. That it has been him running in your mind every time I'm with you."

Mark never could look at her without a tightening in his chest, a painful stutter of his heart. In this heartache the sun won't shine, birdsong passes as if the melody can't glide through the air as it once did before.

Out of complete silence, the cry arose. Slow and gentle but it rose to a wail that tore at his heart. His mind clouded with pain, he has been pushing back against pain for so long yet it returns in his weaker moments, devastating his mind.
