《THE FORGOTTEN DAD》CHAPTER 38 - PART 1

Chanyeol walked in, three day stubble and a neat pressed suit, the kind you only see on high priced lawyers and gangsters. The man that passed is a clear head higher than most people anyone would consider tall. Somehow he isn't lanky though, there's bulk on him too; muscles beneath the suit. Though his legs moved slowly he is still walking away as fast as any other staff member, each stride carrying him further.

"Park Legacy's reputation will be at stake if you won't drop the case now, sir." His staff started to rush him out.

"You cannot hold him for too long here as he is CEO of Park Motors. The investors with the board of directors might plotting of his dismissal soon," another annoyed voice came.

"It's all over the media since Mr. Jinyoung's arrestment and people wanted to know why your brother is in prison. What if they know you are the one who charge him?"

Chanyeol stopped from walking before taking a deep breath. This pressing need was really stressing him out.

"Please President Park, you should consider about your company too. This hereditament your late grandfather had built, we shouldn't let it destroy because of family matters."

He averted his eyes when he noticed Wonwoo stood in front of the door. His PA then bowed to him, welcoming his presence, "Sir."

"Well gentlemen," Chanyeol replied with no smile on his face. He didn't even bothered to turn to look at them. "Profit should never come at the cost of human blood. Park Jinyoung almost killed someone and we are all aware endangering human life is a universal crime no matter how high his status is."

He took in the room with a single sweep, his dark lustrous eyes settling on those folks before he left as expressionless as he entered. Wonwoo, his personal assistant followed him behind before closing the door.

"Sir, Mr. Jinyoung is waiting for you now." He informed him, showing the miserable handcuffed man sitting in front of him. That brother of him.

Chanyeol make a bold move towards the table, "The term "murderer" was now reserved for psychopaths. Well done, brother." The cold look reflected on his face yet it didn't gave Jinyoung shudders. The man looked unimpressed.

He ran a finger down to the table surface, moving closer to his brother. "The ability to kill someone doesn't make you a leader, and it doesn't make someone great. There's nothing great about dying or taking a life. I thought you have learnt that from Father."

A cruel sneer formed on his brother's smooth face and he leaned forward, eyes bearing straight into him. "Every once in a while, I get the urge. You know what I'm talking about, don't you? The urge for destruction. The urge to hurt, maim, kill. It's quite a thing, to experience that urge, to let it wash over you, to give in to it. It's addictive. It's all-consuming. You lose yourself to it..." Jinyoung glanced over before continued speaking.

"But we're all like that, aren't we? We're all destroyers at our core. We're all savage, murderous beasts. I know I am. I'm sure you are. The only difference between us, hyung, is how loudly we roar. I know I roar very loudly indeed. How about you? Do you think you can match me?"

Chanyeol's rage filled his belly as he felt his ears getting hot, listening to his brother's attack. He glared at him then spat out, "I AM NOT A KILLER!"

"I was busy talking about feelings and destroy people." He sneers at Chanyeol then laughs only adding fuel to his wrath.

"You think this is funny?" he snapped.

The smirk grew over his brother's face. "I think this is completely unfair for me to be here alone, hyung. I mean I'm not the only one who had done the destruction in JK Group household."

He glared at him with hatred in his cruel dull eyes.

Jinyoung paused, head tilted toward his stepbrother, locked him in a serious gaze. "You started everything! This madness won't cause havoc if you're not settle down with your own one-sided feelings to that woman. I won't back to Korea if you didn't meet my ex-girlfriend and using her to get what you want. I won't pull a gun to an innocent pregnant woman but since you hurt Jennie too much, I have to. Do you know that, hyung? You are breaking everyone around you because of your greediness!"

Chanyeol' eyes narrowed as the man continued taunting him. His face was red with suppressed rage, every word stung only fueling the fire that burned inside of him. Every violated phrase was like gasoline to it, his fists began to clench and his jaw rooted.

"Jeon Jungkook and Jennie Kim are deserve to be treated that way!" Chanyeol yelled. "They are not human but filthy animals...and look at yourself, brother. You was so in love with that whore until you ignored how horribly she treated you!"

"SHE IS NOT A WHORE!"

The argument was cold. Every word over pronounced, slicing rather than tumbling through the dry air. The love between brothers hadn't gone, it had been distorted into a close mimic of hatred; and just as love endures, so would the wall of bitterness that separated them, growing more thorns every seconds.

"But you almost kill Y/N for her!" He exclaimed, his anger and hatred getting the better of him. He closed in the distance between the Jinyoung and himself. His voice lowered, almost to a whisper.

"Where is Jennie right now?"

Jinyoung went into silence and refuse to answer.

"You still think love can save you? You have done a big mistake, Park Jinyoung. Jennie is still has feelings for Jungkook. That's why she didn't let you kill him on that day. You shouldn't listen to her and shoot him instead. That would be easier for me to help you." Jinyoung's eyes widened for a second before narrowing in anger.

No man who seeks to be mysterious can truly be, there's something about wanting the attention that gives them away. Truly mysterious men have no such desire, their motives remain hidden and hence the allure. The have a stand-offish quality that dares contact without inviting it. They are independent and casual, nonchalant and slow to temper, analyzing situations with ease. They are kind but don't form emotional attachments often, though when they do they can be counted on to be truly 'heroic'.

The wry laugh suddenly came from Jinyoung until he had leaned back in his chair and was continue laughing uproariously. Chanyeol folded his arms, eyebrows arched, waiting for him to stop.

"Jeon Jungkook, huh?" he said, looking pleased and a satisfaction, as if having completed a deeply, personally needed action. "He was the one you really wanted to take down? After every damn things happened because of you? Look who's choosing to show his true colors now, Park Chanyeol who speaks nothing but good deeds he have done to everyone."

Park Jinyoung observed him with a cold gaze, that aloof judgment with no strings. From the look he has made some opinion of Chanyeol.

"I'll tell you what, hyung," said Jinyoung. "Release me from this sick place and I'll help you to get whatever or whoever you want. You want that woman without Jeon Jungkook bothering you anymore? Consider it done. I'll take care of it for you."

Chanyeol forced a laugh, "Was it really my needs to destroy Jeon Jungkook? Or was it yours? Stop playing around with your words, Jinyoung and be truthful with your desire. It is you who wanted Jeon Jungkook all alone so that Jennie Kim could forget about him."

"You are really a worthy competitor, you know that? The best rival I ever encountered... My own brother... It is an honor to be your opponent, hyung. You are better than me at many things, but you cannot beat me this time."

He brought a fist to the Jinyoung's face, snapping his nose hard. "I never came looking for a fight but you are really testing my anger, Jinyoung. I'll find Jennie no matter what and by that time you should better pray I won't kill her!"

Chanyeol stood, folding both arms over his chest. They think he's a fool to wait like he does every chance he gets: eyes set to the closed door, arms resting on the pounded chest. But the way he sees it he'll be missing the greatest chance of life if he didn't do it. Waiting here gives him time to let his mind escape the problems he has been through, to think beyond the offerings of the future most alike.

The door finally opened and there's stood Eun Ha with her downcast eyes. Slowly she shook her head.

Wait. Wait, and wait. Sounds easy, right? It's easier until he found the same answer over and over again. Then it won't as easy as he thought. Chanyeol stared so hard his mind almost cause some to please him but he won't let it.

To gain her trust back for that he shall be patience. He should wait... a little longer, he said to himself.

He breathed, "Did she eat anything today?"

"She doesn't want to come out from her room. Her door was locked. Guess she really doesn't want anyone to bother her for now." Eun Ha said making Chanyeol nodded.

"Well if anything happen, just let me know. I will come back again tomorrow," said him. "The bodyguards here won't disturb you guys, so don't be afraid. Just in case, Mark came and trying to hurt her, that's all."

Chanyeol began to step away with Wonwoo before he heard Eun Ha called him.

"Wait!" Eun Ha stopped him. He turned and take a look on her.

"Can I ask what happens between you guys?" she seems hesitated to ask him.

Chanyeol forced a smile. "I lied to her..."

"Lie?"

There were lies we told to save ourselves, and then there were lies we told to rescue others. What counted more, the mistruth, or the greater good? We wait and think and doubt and hate. How does it make you feel? The overwhelming feeling is rage. We hate ourselves for being unable to be other than what we are. Unable to be better. We feel rage.

And for that, he lied. Maybe he thought if he lie, she will stay beside him. If what he said was the truth, it broke her heart. If what he said was a lie, it was broken anyway. He knows nothing more than that man was only born for breaking her inside out.

"You lied to me, Chan! Jungkook is not dead! Why did you have to lie?!" she hysterically crying and looked like she needs to draw breath. "I trusted you! I trusted you and I lose everything, everyone that matter to me! I lose my daughter, my son, and now Jungkook, the person I love with all of my heart. Why Chan? Why did you have to be so cruel separating us apart?"

Her expression became serious with heavy shakes on her shoulder. Chanyeol's eyes started to drift downward.

"Y/N..." back up to her eyes.

"You know that I'm falling in love with you, right?"

Y/N wiped away her tears roughly, "Oh God..."

He will always fall in love, and it will always be like having his throat cut, just that fast.

She said, "I know the truth now. You've figured out I'm still in love with Jungkook and you're trying to make me stop by hurting me this way. Well it won't work, Chan. It won't never work because I never picture you and me together,"

She started to back away from him, a disgust look on her face. "Never. I appreciate what you have done to me before but I hope I never see you again. Stop showing up in front of me, Mr. Park Chanyeol. You just did make me hate you."

"N-no! Y/N, stop!" he yelled but she didn't listen and continue to walk away from him.

His throat caught. This wasn't going to happen, but something in him was withering. He wanted to explain more about why he did it and he knew he couldn't have it. For now. His breath came fast. That was what he wanted too, and it hurt more than he thought was possible to let her go.

"You should know, Mr. Jeon..." he turned to look at Jeon Jungkook who already down casted his eyes, sadly staring at the grass. "... yourself and the whole JK Group is a burden to her. You put her in a very dangerous position by only letting yourself wandering around her. And here I am, asking with my lowest to not keep interfering into her life anymore so that she won't be breaking all over again."

He might seems a selfish person but this was the only thing he thinks the right one to do. She doesn't have to be with him because he knows her heart never belongs to him. But letting her to keep staying with her former spouse, for that he couldn't do it. He just couldn't when so much trouble that man got into and he has been witnessing enough.

"Just let me see her for the last time," Jungkook said as his eyes dripped with tears.

Chanyeol slowly nodded, biting his lower lips, "Looking back on what we all have been through, I just wanted her to be happy if that doesn't make me with her... Thank you, Mr. Jeon." He purely smiled before offering him a handshake.

Jungkook blinked briny tears from his eyes and hand him his hand. He smiled through tears, "No, thank you. Thank you for taking care of her, saving her when I'm not capable to do so. I feel sorry I couldn't be what she needed. She put her hope so much on me and I'm afraid if I can't make her happy again. You are right. She deserve someone better..."

You know how they say you only hurt the ones you love? Well, it works both ways. Sorrow is how we learn to love. Your heart isn't breaking. It hurts because it's getting larger. The larger it gets, the more love it holds. Guess that's just part of loving people: You have to give things up. Sometimes you even have to give them up.

I know you deserve better, Y/N. I hope you find a man who can love you the way you need to be loved. But I just need you to know that losing you has been the hardest thing I have ever had to live through. I loved you so much. You knew I needed a friend, you knew I was lonely, and you saw through my defensive attitude and decided to be that person for me. You saved my life.

I know I was bad at communicating. I know I was bad at being a good friend. But I tried. I really did. I loved you more than being alive, more than myself, more than anyone or anything in the entire universe. You knew this. I told you this every times. You knew I was trying so hard to be what you wanted, so why did you give up on me? Why didn't you give me another chance? Why wasn't I good enough?

His world was collapsing, and the only thing that really mattered to him was that she was alive.

"Don't waste your love on somebody, who doesn't value it, hyung." Jimin took a sip of his coffee. His brother surprisingly came to visit him at Sky House today for... unidentified reason? He also didn't know why on Earth his brother came to see him after a short while they argued about him throwing Jinyoung into the prison.

He replied, "What do you know about loving someone, Jimin? I bet you know nothing more than one night stand and throwing your money away."

Jimin laughed, "I've been fighting to be who I am all my life. What's the point of being who I am, if I can't have the person who was worth all the fighting for? Is that what you feel right now, hyung? Just forget about her... if not I might become the new President of Park Legacy soon and you know we both don't want it to happen, right?"

He had found it impossible to talk with Jimin in the way he had expected to talk to him, and he was so out of sorts that he could not have a proper conversation without being mad to his brother.

"Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get - only with what you are expecting to give - which is everything. Don't tell me what I should do. I know my own responsibility, Jimin. Just take care of yourself and stay out from trouble."

He watched Jimin stood up from where he sat earlier and coming closer to him.

"Here," He handed him a wrapped card. Most likely to be an invitation card. Chanyeol scanned it for a moment with curious look.

"I will be getting married next week," he said with a cheeky smile. "Since Jinyoung is not here anymore, you're the one I rely the most to represent our family."

Chanyeol looked at him in disbelief. Jimin was the one he unexpected the most to settle down as early as now. With his bad behavior, he seriously unqualified to be someone's husband or dad.

"I know. I know," Jimin laughed. "Park Jimin's loving someone is really an unbelievable news. Well, it was love at first sight."

"Are you sure it's love? I know enough to know that no woman should ever marry a man who hated his mother." He lifted an eyebrow.

"Hyung!" Jimin yelled.

He snickered pleasantly, "How long have you been going out?"

"Almost three years,"

He gasped out. "Three years?! Wow, at least you achieved something greater than me."

"You really love her don't you," Jimin suddenly asked him.

"With all my heart." He looked as sad as Jimin had ever seen him.

"What's your heart telling you to do?"

Chanyeol sighed. "I don't know."

"Maybe," Jimin said gently. "It's not too late to win her heart again."

Three weeks ago, if you asked me, I would have told you that if you really loved someone, you'd let them go. But now I look at myself, and I dreamed about her, and I see that I've been wrong. If you really love someone, I think you have to take them back...

"Do you think it is the right thing to do?" he asked Wonwoo from the back seat. His PA was currently driving him to some place today.

"I beg your pardon, sir?"

"Do you think she will open up her heart back if I help her getting Jisung away from his father?"

"I'm not sure about that one, sir, but if you believe in something, then you shouldn't give up on it," said Wonwoo.

He released a heavy breath.

I won't ever leave you, even though you're always leaving me, Y/N...

And in the end how far should a person go in the name of true love?
