《Whatever It Takes | Rosekook ✓》35: stand

"Are you sure you're feeling okay?" Jungkook asked Roseanne. She was in bed, editing the video she, Yerim, and Nayeon had just made.
"I told you that I'm fine. Do you want me to do some jumping-jacks to prove it?"
"No, I want you to tell me if you need to go to the hospital."
"You're so overprotective of Rosie," Eunwoo said. He was sitting in a chair beside Roseanne's bed. "If I ever get hit by a baseball, will you be as attentive to me, Jungkook?"
"No, you have to get hit by a car too," Jungkook answered. He set a cup of water on Roseanne's night table. "I'm leaving this here in case you get thirsty
"You seriously have the worst luck," Jaehyun added. "What are the chances of almost getting run over after your apartment catches on fire and you get hit by a baseball? Don't buy any lottery tickets."
"I can't afford lottery tickets."
"Not even with all the views you've been getting lately?" Jaehyun asked. "It won't be long before you'll have a viable income using YouTube. Then you'll get sponsored videos. Those can bring in some easy cash."
"And who's going to want to work with me?" Roseanne scoffed.
"Don't worry, everyone will once you're associated with us," Jungkook reminded her. "For now, we're laying low."
Jaehyun rolled his eyes. "I still think that a bad idea. We should be posting videos not pretending we're mourning Tzuyu's death. It's not like any of us really liked her."
"If the public thinks we should be mourning, then we're going to mourn," Jungkook said.
"I just hate being fake," Jaehyun pulled out his phone and began texting.
"It's not fake. We may not have been on the best terms but at one time I cared for Tzuyu. Besides, after that picture of you kissing her was released, we kind of have to. Remember, we don't respond to negative criticism."
"I know," Jaehyun sighed.
"Oh crap," Roseanne fumed.
"What is it? Are you hurting anywhere?" Jungkook asked, already beside her.
"No, I just forgot we should've told Officer Chanyeol about Jisub. I have the video of him with his bruises at the pharmacy. He has to be the one who broke into our apartment last night."

"We still don't know why," Jungkook reminded her. "What motive could he possibly have to burn down an apartment? Especially if he owns the building."
"That's not my job," Roseanne said. "The cops are supposed to figure out the motive. I just need to make sure they get all the help I can give them. Jisub seems so guilty so they need to check him out."
"Who is Jisub?" Eunwoo asked.
"Rosie's landlord and a total jerk. He was blaming her for someone breaking into her apartment and refused to let her stay in a different apartment in the meantime," Jungkook answered.
"Rosie, I'm glad you're still alive, but I've got an appointment to get to," Jaehyun said.
"What appointment?" Jungkook asked.
"You know that dancer with cat eyes?" Jaehyun wiggled his eyebrows.
"No," Eunwoo answered for him.
"Kang Seulgi," Jaehyun smirked. "I've got a date with her so I'm off. If you need anything, just text."
After he exited, Eunwoo stood up. "I better go too. I have a few songs I need to finish writing before sending them off."
"Songs?" Roseanne asked.
"Yeah, I used to sing. I'm surprised you didn't know that about me. I quit last year but I still like to write," Eunwoo grinned before leaving Roseanne and Jungkook alone.
"I forgot Eunwoo used to sing. Why did he quit?"
Jungkook lifted a shoulder. "That's for him to share. He doesn't really talk about it but he seems to like you so maybe he'll let you in on his secret. Are you going to call Chanyeol?"
"I am," Roseanne said. "Right after I post this video. I think I'm going to include what's been going on and the footage of Jisub. I'll just blur his face so he can't try and sue me."
Jungkook laughed. "He can still try. He just won't win. I have a good lawyer."
Roseanne smiled at him. "Thank you. I'm not sure when, why, or even how it happened but I'm glad we're friends."
"I'm glad we're friends too, Rosie. I told you I've watched your videos for a while, right? Tzuyu never liked it when she saw me watching them. It's one of the reasons we used to fight."
"Really?"
"She was incredibly insecure despite being so narcissistic. It's something I still don't understand. I think that's why she tried picking a fight with you at our party."

"She didn't seem to know who I was."
"She knew," Jungkook reassured her. "She just liked making people feel like they were insignificant."
"Did she do that to you?"
Jungkook scrunched up his nose. "She tried to. I'm very much aware of who I am and what I'm about. If we didn't have the sponsorship that we had, I would've dropped Tzuyu long ago."
"She was beautiful though. I bet a ton of guys would stay with her despite her attitude."
"Staying with someone like her is like feeding someone chocolates filled with poop."
Roseanne giggled. "Did you just say poop?"
"I'm trying not to curse. Would you eat a chocolate candy that looked beautiful on the outside knowing it was filled with poop on the inside?"
"No, I probably wouldn't. Are you sure you aren't worried about this video? Nayeon basically makes it seem like Tzuyu cheated on you with a lot of different guys."
Jungkook shrugged. "It's the truth. I don't mind. If she were still alive, I may not want it known because I know it'd impact her reputation. But she's not. She doesn't have to worry about getting people to sponsor her videos. Besides, I'm the one who looks like the victim, not Tzuyu. If I want to date someone in the future, everyone would compare that person to Tzuyu. They'd start posting comments about how I'm still in love with Tzuyu."
"I didn't even think of that," Roseanne whispered.
"I have. It would put a strain on our relationship and she'd feel insecure if she actually believed I missed Tzuyu. It's best I came clean in public."
"That might actually make everyone root for your new girlfriend," Roseanne said. "They'd know how awful things were with Tzuyu and they're going to hop your new girlfriend is much better."
"Exactly. The last thing I want is my new girlfriend to go through another scandal."
"Another? Do you already have another girlfriend?"
Jungkook chuckled. "Not yet. Anyway, the video is just going to help. Besides, Yerim made that video with you and Nayeon. No one really believed her but this will back her up."
"Were you good friends with Yerim?"
"No, not really. She's not too popular. I know her boyfriend, Sehun. I'm surprised she's been so involved with Tzuyu's death."
"They were best friends," Roseanne reminded him.
"Yeah, but her boyfriend and I hang out sometimes. He mentioned how crazy Yerim would get with Tzuyu. He used to ask me to tell Tzuyu to stop using Yerim's makeup looks and passing them off as her own. He mistakenly thought I had control over Tzuyu."
"Tzuyu did that? To the girl she claimed was her best friend?"
"I didn't know until Sehun mentioned it. I started to see her in a different light after that. I know Yerim and Sehun would fight about Yerim being so insecure. I once overheard Tzuyu telling Yerim to stop blaming all of her problems on her. I figured it was a girl-thing and didn't get involved."
"The more I learn about Tzuyu, the more I realize she was a bitch."
Jungkook laughed. "You don't filter words, do you?"
"I've been trying to figure out what kind of person she was and every single time the answer is that she was selfish and mean. She has so much going for her. Why would she be so mean?"
"I used to think it was because of her family life. She didn't have a strong foundation but a lot of people don't and they're still decent human beings. It doesn't matter anymore, does it? She was who she was."
Roseanne was still editing her video. "You're right. I'm almost finished with this video. I think I'm going to make a new group for all of the Chou Tzuyu videos since they're not what I usually make. I'll label them mystery videos."
"That's a good idea."
"So, do you really think Jaehyun or Eunwoo is Clinger?"
Jungkook shook his head. "No, at least I hope not. They're like brothers to me."
"You don't think they'd keep any secrets from you?"
"I don't know. I'm sure they do. We all have secrets. I'd just like to think I have better people around me. People who wouldn't backstab me like that. Until we find out who Clinger really is, I'm going to keep looking for other people. Because if it's one of them, I'm not sure if I'll able to recover from that," Jungkook headed towards the door. "I've got some calls to make. Let me know when you call Officer Chanyeol. I'm here for you, Rosie."
Roseanne smiled as she watched him leave. It'd been a long time since anyone was really there for her.

To The Far Shore
Post apocalyptic Oregon Trail. The apocalypse has come and gone. And come back again, and left again... nobody really knows how often. Nothing lasts forever, but nothing is ever completely gone. Which is a shame for young Mazelton, as his family has been around a terribly long time, and made an astonishing amount of enemies. Millenia's worth. So he has to run- from mobs, cannibals, soldiers, sailors, cholera, cattle, thieving sales-monks, starvation, mechanical horrors, vengeful spirits, negotiating your own marriage, and poison of every sort. Fortunately, his not terribly nice family has trained him well in the arts of core polishing. Or as you and I might know it- turning radioactive pellets into useful tools. And weapons. Updates Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Usual defensive tags applied. The goal isn't exactly family friendly, but you have probably seen worse on network TV. After the watershed. Not full blown HBO, let's say. This is the first novel I am sharing publicly, so feedback is very much appreciated and encouraged. Act 1 of the novel is completed, but do please let me know what works, what doesn't, and what you would like to see more of. Thank you, and Enjoy!
