《Troubled With Tattoos》011: Hakuna Your Tatas

Mondays always, without a doubt, sucked. Unless you're some alien who has no idea of how much we humans hate Monday's, then you should know. I had a test in history about World War One and guess who completely forgot to study.

And lastly, in calculus I completely ignored the whole lesson as I finished my biology homework I forgot about. Little did I know that I could have done it at lunch instead. These boys have been distracting me. I have always been a straight A student.

So what was I doing now you may ask, sitting at the lunch table, copying Rose's notes that I should've taken in calculus. I pushed the mechanical pencil down on the paper too roughly causing the lead to snap in half. I groaned in frustration running my soft hands down my face.

"You know, you could have done the bio homework here and then you wouldn't need the notes." Rose pointed out munching on a small bag of chips. I gave her a look and she backed off. In case I haven't said it enough, I hate Mondays.

"Leave her alone, she stressed out," Lizzie said patting my back. If only she knew the other half of it all. I had been spending so much time with the boys that I accidentally let my grades slip.

Cherry keeps bugging me about getting the police involved. I just wanted to forget it happened, I'm happy here. I have new friends and Cherry is the sweetest.

"I need change, you got two nipples for a dime?" His all too familiar voice said as he placed his tray down across from me. Rose burst out in laughter at the word nipple. We all gave her a strange look and she sobered up quickly.

"No," I mumbled miserably, the table laughed as usual while I sat unamused.

"Oh, so you got three?" He choked on his laughter. I glared as hard as I could at him, but it didn't affect him one bit.

"Alright, what crawled up your ass and died?" He sighed sitting down across from me. I wanted to smile at his weak attempt to get me to smile.

"My grades," I muttered, writing down another sentence. However, he ignored my school problems.

"You up for a basketball game later?" He asked biting into a juicy, red apple.

"Can I pick teams this time?" I asked I wanted Luke on me team, he was the best.

"Well, you'll be seeing me play." He winked. That's right, I totally forgot he played basketball. Cherry gave me the day off, something about a talk we needed to have, but that could wait a few hours.

"Alright." I chuckled. After seeing his skills in our little two on three games I knew it'd be a good game.

Soon enough, lunch had ended and then school had ended. Lizzie and I were walking in the same direction towards the gymnasium where the game was. Camden said to just follow the crowd and if that didn't work then to just meet him in his room. Yes, of course, he had to make everything perverted.

"Do you want to go to the game with me?" I asked her noticing she had been by my side and hadn't left the school yet.

"Someone's got to be there to save your ass from falling," She said.

"Falling off what?" I asked.

"Falling for the player" she said as if it were obvious. This time I rolled my eyes.

"I'm not going to fall for anyone." I hoped.

"Keep telling yourself that." She shrugged.

"Hakuna your tatas," I said knowing for a fact she wouldn't get it. My old friend Rachel used this saying all the time.

"What?" She asked her eyebrows furrowing in confusion.

"It means to calm your tits," I explained holding back my laugh. She burst out laughing even spitting on my cheek. I wiped it off with a disgusted look on my face.

Our school's basketball team was popular in this city so their games were always packed.

I was surprised I had learned the ropes of this school so quickly. It's only been a month or two and I feel like I've been going to this school my whole life. I guess I wasn't as useless as my mother made me out to be.

We reached the crowded entrance to the gym. There was a long line for the bathroom, I was suddenly glad I went during biology.

I gave the teacher, who volunteered to take tickets, my money and in return, she gave me a small blue ticket and stamped my hand.

Making our way into the already filled bleachers, a giant penguin costume stood in our way. I was surprised when the penguin danced and even hugged us. Lizzie led the way to the second row of the bleachers.

"What was that?" I asked a little weirded out as I followed her lead. She brought us to the middle bleachers, the perfect view of the whole court.

"That was our Mascot, Pelly." She said in a duh tone. Mascot? Our basketball team was the Penguins? I let out a laugh and she smiled at me again.

"Our mascots a penguin?" I asked unbelievably. I was expecting something like the almighty lions or maybe the fierce tigers, not a dancing penguin named Pelly.

"It sure is." She laughed copying the penguins moves. The crowd cheered as the teams came out of the locker rooms. Our school's uniforms were blue and gold, the other schools were cranberry and silver. I spotted Cam right away, his giant smirk being hard to miss. He was number three, best one on the team apparently.

"There he is." I pointed towards him. Lizzie stared at me blankly.

"Cool, he could be on the edge of a cliff for all I care." She huffed crossing her arms.

The teams practiced while the gymnasium was still being filled. I recognized a lot of students that go here but none of them I have talked to.

The referees made their way in standing in the middle of the court. The scoreboard was flashing as they set the time in. Our team was home.

"I'm going to go get some popcorn before the game starts, want any?" She spoke loudly so I could hear her clearly. I nodded, yelling "Extra butter."

My stomach growled as I thought of the delicious, buttery popcorn. A voice interrupted my tasty thoughts and I nearly glared but I held it back. My eyes met those of a tan boy I had never seen before.

"Hey." His deep voice said his green eyes piercing into mine.

"Hi" I responded. He wore a black hoodie with dark blue fitted jeans.

"Your friend's kinda cute, what's her name?" He grinned. Friend? What friend? Oh wait is he talking about Lizzie?

"Elizabeth," I answered.

"Well give Elizabeth this..." He said rambling on in a way that made it seem like he wanted to know my name.

"Violet," I said taking the small folded paper out of his abnormally large hand.

"I have to go, Violet, don't forget." He winked walking away. Why didn't he stay for the game? That was strange, well at least Lizzie will be excited. I felt my nerves die down as he left the gymnasium

The game started just as Lizzie made her way back with the popcorn. She stumbled over people legs since they couldn't be bothered with moving. She gave me a bag of popcorn and sat down next to me.

I thanked her just as the game began to start. The referee had two players from opposite teams stand in front of each other. He threw the ball and the tall boy on the other team swooped it up.

He dribbled halfway to the hoop until one of Cam's teammates knocked it out of his hands. The game unfolded so fast I could barely tell who had the ball. Next thing I knew the ball was thrown to Cam who shot a score of two points.

We cheered as the ball was passed to the other team. Their mascot was a clumsy knight, at least I could say our penguin was better. The game started out good, we were winning so far.

I watched as the boys held out their hands frantically in an attempt of defense. The boy threw the ball just as Cam jumped up right in time to catch it. We cheered again and then shoved our faces with popcorn.

"He's really good." I pointed out watching him score a three pointer. She rolled her eye's ignoring my comment.

Before we knew it, it was almost half time. Camden currently had the ball, they were winning 38-14. His foot hit past the white line causing the referee to blow his whistle. Camden abruptly stopped, throwing the ball. He was mad. I don't know what he would be mad about he was the one who stepped out of bounds.

A loud buzzer went off signaling that half the game was over and they called for a break. Many people left to go to the bathroom but not us.

Camden drowned himself in water before making his way over to us.

"Stupid referee with his damn whistle." He spat, crossing his arms over his chest. His hair was drenched with water as it trickled down his face, onto his uniform. But then Lizzie spoke, shocking both of us.

"Hakuna your tatas, it means to calm your tits." Lizzie laughed. I couldn't help but crack a smile.

He looked taken back at the fact she actually spoke to him instead of hiding her face. He gave her a strange look before the coach called him back over to the court.

"That was good, even though you used my line." I praised her. She smiled confidently and said "I know," proudly. I suddenly remembered about the boy who said she was cute. I was excited for her maybe this guy could help her get over Camden.

"So while you were gone getting popcorn, this guy told me he thought you were cute," I told her popping a handful of popcorn into my mouth. Her eyes bugged out of her head and I could literally see her in her mind jumping up and down.

"Not uh!" She squealed. I nodded smiling.

"Yeah huh. And he wanted me to give you this." I placed the thin piece of paper in her hands and she lit up like a Christmas tree.

"He didn't give this to you and you felt bad so you gave it to me right?" She questioned.

"What kind of question is that?" I asked. Lizzie's past was a mysterious one.

"Im just used to being second best is all," she said gloomily, "I'm going to text him."

My eyes grazed upon the crowd in the bleachers. Out of nowhere, my eyes caught onto those of someone familiar. Declan saw me and pointed, then waved. I smiled and waved back to him.

Declan began walking over to us with Luke and Austin in tow

"Um, who are they?" Lizzie asked. She must've noticed the small group of intimidating boys coming closer. I froze not knowing what to say. She told me not to get involved with the wrong people.

"Is that Austin and Luke Hayes." She squinted her eyes at the approaching group of boys, "And Declan King?" She turned to me and I placed a very innocent look on my face.

"Not uh. Oh, you didn't." She snapped at me with her hand on her hip. Well, would you look at the time.

"Violet! I specifically warned you about those boys! What are you thinking? Is there a brain up there?" She whispered since they were nearing.

"Well I was thinking they wouldn't like me but, I was wrong." I panicked. I didn't want her to be mad at me, but they were my friends now too. They were fun to hang out with, how bad could that be? Lizzie had it all wrong, these boys weren't bad, they just looked it.

"Hey, Violet." The boys greeted me giving a quick nod to Liz.

"Hey guys, you here to see the game?" I asked hoping they were only dropping by. But then again once they leave Lizzie's rant is only going to go on and on, so maybe they should stay. Lizzie stood there awkwardly. She was slightly pissed, her face scrunched up into a scowl.

"Yeah, well we were supposed to leave during half time, but someone had to take forever to fix his precious hair," Luke spoke as he glared at Declan accusingly. Declan smiled cheekily with a guilty look smeared on his face.

"Oh well you can sit with us, this is Lizzie by the way." I offered them despite Lizzie's constant nudging in the ribs. I was going to prove to her that they weren't bad at all. You can't always believe the rumors.

The second half of the game started so they agreed and sat down next to us. Lizzie was on my right and Declan was on my left. Next to Declan was Austin, and then there was Luke. Not going to lie I feel pretty badass just sitting next to them.

"People are staring," Lizzie whispered in my ear. I looked around to see people sitting at an angle just to get a look over here. I grew a bit self-conscious from their eyes and Lizzie sensed it.

"Do you not have anything else to look at?!" Lizzie snapped glaring at them all. They turned around slowly and I could just barely hold my laughter in. I whispered thanks to her and she smiled. I was surprised she wasn't mad unless she was pretending not to be so she could secretly kill me on the way home. That's actually a pretty strong possibility.

As the game rolled on, the boys would not keep quiet. Every time the other team scored they boo'ed extremely loud, loud enough for the coach to glare. Then every time Camden scored they cheered crazily, stomping their feet on the bleachers, shaking the whole thing. So they were kicked out.

Some guy asked them to leave and when they refused to leave they threatened to call the police. That made them move. Now they stood in the doorway of the gymnasium, of course being the smart ass's that they are, the man only said to leave the gymnasium, not the whole building. It was kind of funny actually, but it's going to be even harder to prove to Lizzie that they're not as bad as they seem.

Camden gave me ride home after his team beat the other one, 54-37. They were undefeatable.
