《Haikyuu!! x Male reader one-shots》- Ushijima Wakatoshi -

"Our school's musical theater club is hosting a musical, and they need volunteers. Now, the VP decided that a member of each club should join, since their practice days aren't the same as our practices." Coach Washijo announced. "Now, who is gonna go?"
Ushijima thought. He remembered something. His junior high best friend, and crush, (L/n) (Y/n), was now the leader of the musical club. The two were very attached, but after (Y/n)'s parents killed someone, everyone grew distant from him, and as much as Ushijima didn't wanna, his mother never let him near (Y/n) ever again. Everyone knew his family as the 'murderous family'. Eventually, everyone forgot he ever existed.
"I'll join." Said Ushijima.
"Alright, Ushijima. I'll be sure to let the head of the Performing Arts department know. Alright, back to practice!"
.
.
.
"(L/n)-kun, we got a message from the volleyball club. Ushijima-kun is the representative to be in the musical this year." the teacher said.
"Oh. OK, sensei, thank you."
(Y/n) looked through some roles. He wasn't the lead of the Musical Theater club for nothing. The teachers in charge of the role picking knew he was the best singing, performer, and dancer, according to them at least. (Y/n) always knew that it was because of his past performance career, and his dedication and seriousness about the club.
"Hm, Wakatoshi is the representative..."
.
.
.
"Hello to the assembly of this year's musical. This year, the musical will be one that was written by some members of the school newspaper club. This is an LGBTQ+ musical. The plot rundown will be..."
Wakatoshi was very interested in the plot. He wanted to be Protagonist B. So, he auditioned for the role.
.
.
.
"Wakatoshi-kun, where are you going?" Tendou asked.
"I must see what role I have gotten for the musical." Wakatoshi explained.
"I see. What role did you audition for?" Ohira asked.
"Protagonist B. They have not given us the name of the characters." Wakatoshi explained.
"Hmm. What's the musical called?" Semi asked.
"It is called 'The Starcrossed Princes.'" Wakatoshi answered.
"Interesting name. Never heard of it."
"Some people in our school had written the musical themselves." Wakatoshi explained.
"That's very cool. Did you get the role you wanted?" Ohira asked.
"Yes, indeed." Wakatoshi replied.
"Wow! That's so cool!" Semi exclaimed. "We're really looking forward to seeing you perform."
"That's right, Wakatoshi-kun."
.
.
.
"Does anyone have any questions?" the teachers in charge asked.
"Yes, sensei." (Y/n) raised his hand.
"Yes, (L/n)-kun."
"What are the characters' names?"
"Right! I totally forgot to tell you all. The characters are you. The characters you perform as will have your name, which means that Protagonist A is called (Y/n), just like you."
Wakatoshi felt a blush creep to his face. His crush had the role of Protagonist A, which meant he was going to be (Y/n)'s musical lover. This was the perfect opportunity to get close to him again.
"Does anyone have more questions? If not, we're handing out the script."
.
.
.
It was the second month of musical practice. The musical members needed to spend more time practicing. (Y/n) was one to overwork himself, and spent his time practicing his musical role. Sometimes Wakatoshi noticed this, and offered to help his old comrade, which he allowed him to, since he took very little offense to the fact that Wakatoshi had ditched him. It wasn't his fault if he scared the boy, anyways, it couldn't be helped. Today was no exception. (Y/n) and Wakatoshi were practicing the musical in the Volleyball gym locker rooms.

"If it is to impress you, m'lady, I shall dance with Prince Wakatoshi." (Y/n) recited. He had the whole musical remembered by now.
"Wait, (Y/n). We have the song to sing after this scene, correct?"
(Y/n) nodded. "I take it that you're still not used to randomly bursting into song in the locker room. It'll take a while, but you'll get used to it at some point. Just read the lyrics from your script."
"OK."
.
.
.
Wakatoshi had half of the musical remembered now. Everytime he walked into the changing room for volleyball, he had the urge to recite the musical. But now things are getting harder, since he wanted the musical to be reality. He had fallen for (Y/n), but he wasn't sure if (Y/n) liked him back. Oh, if only the musical were to be reality... except it could. (Y/n) used to be Wakatoshi's best friend in Junior High, and elementary school. It was a fact between them. But Wakatoshi didn't know that (Y/n) used to watch Wakatoshi playing volleyball, and was like his #1 fan. He fell in love with Wakatoshi, and was frankly still in love with the ace.
.
.
.
"Wakatoshi-kun. Tonight will be your night for the musical. We'll be watching." Tendou said.
"Yeah, it's gonna be awesome!" Semi added.
.
.
.
"There was once a prince, so young, so charming. He was wanted by all the women in all the lands." the narrator narrated. "But the king didn't want to see women fighting over him, he wanted the prince to decide who he wanted to marry. And so, with this decision came a masquerade ball. The oh so mighty Prince (Y/n) was looking forward to who he was to meet that night. His father had invited all the upper class women and men in his kingdom and some neighboring kingdoms."
"The king had also made the decision to invite all the princes and princesses from neighboring kingdoms and his alliances." Narrator 2 said.
The flashlight shined down onto the stage where Wakatoshi stood in front of the palace door.
"I am Prince Wakatoshi of the Ushijima dynasty. I come from the far lands of the Ace Kingdom."
"Pfft- I'm convinced that this is a comedy." Semi chuckled.
"Oh, Prince Wakatoshi, do enter." Guard A said as he moved out of the way.
The light shined down on Ushijima as he power walked into the palace. There were many decorations for this set. The arts and crafts department really outdone themselves in this. Inside, there was a man on one knee, taking a lady's hand, asking her for a dance.
"Oh, Lady Marie, I heard you were the finest lady of the kingdom of Moonlight."
"How would you know that I'm Lady Marie? We're in a masquerade ball."
"There is no mistaking a lady so beautiful like you, Lady Marie."
"Alright, perhaps I am Lady Marie. What would you want from me?"
"Well, it would truly be an honour to dance with you." The man said.
"Oh, don't bluff. Surely there are finer women in this fine kingdom." Lady Marie said.
"She looks reluctant to dance with you. Perhaps you should have a dance with me, Lady Marie." Ushijima said.
"Oh, should I now?"
"Back off, sir, I asked for the favor first."
"I am no mere sir, I am Prince Wakatoshi of the Ace Kingdom."
"Well, I'm Prince (Y/n) of this Kingdom. I am in charge here, you are on my soil."
"Now, boys, don't fight. Why don't you two have a dance?" Lady Marie cooed.

(Y/n) and Ushijima looked at each other, then back at Marie.
"If it is to impress you, m'lady, I shall dance with Prince Wakatoshi."
(Y/n) took Ushijima's hand. Everyone kept dancing but now the two leads are dancing with each other in the center of the stage. And not to mention, their dance was more grand, elegant, and graceful, since they had extra practice.
"I must say, you're not that bad of a dancer." (Y/n) commented.
"I could say the same about you." Ushijima replied.
(Y/n) and Ushijima leaned down for the dance, almost kissing, but they didn't. Instead, they rose right up, and continued to dance. At some point of the dance, the music changed to a calmer song.
"I suggest we... go somewhere more private." Ushijima said.
"And we shall." (Y/n) said as he walked with Ushijima to the back stage. The lights turned off. Music started to play, and the two walked out to the stage where the garden set had been set up.
"I suppose you've never been dancing with a man before?" Ushijima asked.
"You're correct, I never have." (Y/n) said. "But I've had fancy men before. It's rather odd in my eyes."
"There isn't anything wrong with being attracted to men, though." Ushijima said.
(Y/n) smiled. "But even if I do fall in love with a man again, I would end up marrying someone of the same status, and who would be a woman."
Ushijima sighed. "You're right, and that's such a shame. If you weren't required to marry a woman, I would probably marry you."
"Oh, I'll eat a hat, you daren't do that." (Y/n) said.
"I'm not feeding you nonsense. I would marry you, you're beautiful, and I love your personality." Ushijima said.
(Y/n) blushed. I wish that was true, he thought.
"You barely know me. For all you know, I could be crazy."
"Crazy for me." Ushijima chuckled.
The third year volleyball boys could barely hold in their laugh. Semi was holding his mouth as an attempt to stop laughing or at least muffle the laugh. Tendou was just laughing, no shame in it. Ohira and Yamagata were looking at each other, trying their hardest to not just break down into a laughing fit.
(Y/n) flushed bright red. Why? That wasn't a part of the script. That was improvised. (Y/n) smirked. He could improvise as well.
"Perhaps you're right." (Y/n) said.
That did it.
Ushijima put Tendou's hair to shame. His face exploded in 50... 50,000 shades of red. Meanwhile the whole audience was a laughing mess, but they soon stopped.
"But, even if you're right, I still cannot take your hand in marriage, sadly. But I would love to, though." (Y/n) said as he got up.
"Well, my offer still stands." Ushijima said as he got up as well.
"Allow me to think about it. I shall give you an answer by dawn." (Y/n) said as he walked to his room.
The lights went out.
The two went backstage to change into their 'night wear'.
"Wakatoshi, what was that?" (Y/n) asked.
"What was what?" Ushijima asked.
"The 'crazy for me' thing." (Y/n) chuckled.
"Impulse." Wakatoshi said.
"I see."
.
.
.
(Y/n) was now in the bedroom set.
"I must answer Prince Wakatoshi before dawn. He seems mysterious, and delicate, but also flirtatious. He seems like such a lady's man, but I'm not a lady. I'm a prince, for God's sake." (Y/n) said as he paced around in the room. "But I love him... oh dear, I just met him. He could be the Devil for all I know."
Outside, Ushijima walked to (Y/n)'s "room" and knocked on the door.
"Oh, that must be him."
(Y/n) opened the door, and was greeted with Wakatoshi who was in a dress shirt, and pants.
"Early this morning
When you knocked upon my door
Early this morning
When you knocked upon my door,"
(Y/n) sung.
He walked out to Wakatoshi, and held him by his arm.
"And I said hello Satan, ah
I believe it is time to go
Me and the devil walkin' side by side
Me and the devil walking side by side,"
The bedroom set was taken away, and (Y/n) continued to sing.
"And I'm gonna see my man
Until I get satisfied
See, see, you don't see why
And you would dog me 'round,"
The two walked side by side, with (Y/n) continuing to sing.
"See, don't see why
People dog me around
It must be that old evil spirit
So deep down in your ground
You may bury my body
Down by the highway side
You may bury my body
Down by the highway side
So my old evil spirit
Can Greyhound bus that ride
So my old evil spirit
Can Greyhound bus that ride,"
The song ended, and (Y/n) bowed down towards Wakatoshi.
"I accept your proposal, but need I remind you, the world is against us."
"It doesn't matter. We'll survive."
(Y/n) nodded. "I hope we do."
.
.
.
Soon, (Y/n) had told his musical father that he would marry Wakatoshi.
"Prince Wakatoshi? Why?" His father questioned.
"I love him."
"Unacceptable! You must marry a woman, and have a son!" His father yelled. "Take him to church! There, we'll make him go through all the women who are willing to marry him, and choose someone!"
Some guard actors came by, and held (Y/n) back as he thrashed for freedom, but nonetheless, the guards took him to church.
Soon the lights turned off, and the set was quickly changed to a church-looking set.
"My lover's got humor
He's the giggle at a funeral
Knows everybody's disapproval
I should've worshiped him sooner
If the Heavens ever did speak
He's the last true mouthpiece
Every Sunday's getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week
"We were born sick", you heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes
He tells me, "Worship in the bedroom"
The only Heaven I'll be sent to
Is when I'm alone with you
I was born sick, but I love it
Command me to be well
A-, Amen, Amen, Amen"
Wakatoshi sang as he walked along the church.
Tendou, Semi, Ohira, and Yamagata were shocked that Wakatoshi could sing, but for (Y/n), it seemed to make him fall for the ace even more.
"Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life"
(Y/n) sung the chorus.
"If I'm a pagan of the good times
My lover's the sunlight
To keep the God on my side
He demands a sacrifice
Drain the whole sea
Get something shiny
Something meaty for the main course
That's a fine looking high horse
What you got in the stable?
We've a lot of starving faithful
That looks tasty
That looks plenty
This is hungry work"
Wakatoshi continued as he sat down on a church bench. Then the brides walked to (Y/n)'s side. They walked to (Y/n), then walked away as (Y/n) shook his head, indicating that he didn't want her.
"I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife
Offer me my deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife
Offer me my deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life"
Soon, all the brides were dismissed, and the king, the guards and some other extras walked away, looking defeated. Wakatoshi then walked up to (Y/n).
"No masters or kings when the ritual begins
There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene
Only then I am human
Only then I am clean
Oh, oh, Amen, Amen, Amen"
(Y/n) sang.
Good God, let me give you my life"
Wakatoshi and (Y/n) were just about to kiss, when the king came back on stage.
"YOU! Get away from my son!" The king yelled as he shoved Wakatoshi to the side.
.
.
.
The king resolved to use his last resource to make (Y/n) forget Wakatoshi; force him to "marry" Lady Marie, the very lady who shipped Wakatoshi and (Y/n) together from the start.
In reality, Yoshida Marie was (Y/n)'s friend from when he used to act in actual theaters, and was the vice president of the musical club. She knew damn well that (Y/n) is crushing on Wakatoshi, which is why she chose this role; so she can see them happen, and fangirl over them.
At this point of the musical, (Y/n) and Marie were already married. Marie gave a narration about how she felt that (Y/n) doesn't truly love her, but she's willing to support him, and there was a showing of how (Y/n) and Wakatoshi missed each other so much, but were star-crossed. It felt too real for (Y/n), and Wakatoshi, and Marie wanted to fix that.
In this scene, Wakatoshi snuck into (Y/n)'s garden, and they kissed, and Marie walked to see that, but she walked off stage after a short pause.
"Did she just accidentally walk on stage?" Yamagata asked.
"Maybe?" Tendou shrugged.
But back to the musical.
They knew there was no way they could continue to love in secret, so when Wakatoshi went back to his palace, (Y/n) broke down into tears. Real tears. He fell deeply in love with the ace, and it felt like no matter how hard he tried, he could never have Wakatoshi. He took a few deep breaths before singing.
