"OK, Akaashi-kun, you're up next." The teacher said. The kindergartener named Akaashi Keiji got up from his seat, and walked to the front of his class.
"OK, this is my daddy. He likes gardening and is this one." Keiji said as he pointed towards a person at the right of his screen. "This is me! And that's my mommy! She cooks a lot and likes to make cookies."
"She's bald, look at her!" One of the kids giggled.
Keiji tensed up. "That's not funny! She has cancer, you know?"
The whole class fell in an awkward tension. Keiji was about to cry when the teacher pulled him out of the class.

15 years old. Akaashi Keiji is now 15 years old, and without a mom. His mom had just passed away earlier that week, and they had just finished the funeral.
"Keiji... it'll be alright." his dad, Koharu, said.
"Yeah... Mom will be better now."
.
.
.
Akaashi Keiji, renowned first year setter for Fukurodani academy. He had lost his mother at 15, and right on his mother's birthday... his dad introduced him to his new father.
"Keiji, I want you to meet my boyfriend, (Y/n)." Koharu said. "We'll be moving into his house."
"Hello. I'm looking forward to living with you both." (Y/n) smiled.
"... dad, I don't think this is appropriate." Keiji crossed his arms as he looked away.
"How so?" Koharu asked.
"... dad, do you know what day it is?"
"It's Wednesday."
"... dad, it's mom's birthday!" Keiji shouted as he banged his hand on the dining table.
"Koharu?"
Koharu went silent before speaking up. "Keiji, it's been a year. I'm doing what's best for us as of now."
Keiji's eyes went wide. "What's best for us? How is he what's best for us'? I most certainly don't agree."

"Please give him a chance. I promise he'll be just like your mom."
"(Y/n) will never be like mom. Never, I'm telling you. I've had enough of this retarded conversation, good evening." Keiji said as he walked off to his bedroom.
"... uh... I'm sorry about him. He's really hard headed sometimes." Koharu apologized as he stressfully put his head into his hand.
"It's fine, Koharu. I understand that it takes some time to adjust to changes like these. But for his sake, you shouldn't move in yet. I mean, I'm still renovating my kitchen anyway, so it'll be really hard to sleep if you move in now." (Y/n) replied.
"Are you sure? I mean, you were really looking forward to this, and whatnot. Didn't you renovate the kitchen, and get more stuff for us?" Koharu asked.
"It's fine. This gives me more time to prepare anyways, but if it's really necessary, I can move in with you."
"No, it's fine. Just... I'll talk to him."
"Sure."
.
.
.
Keiji didn't like (Y/n). That was one thing that was obvious. The whole 'we're moving into (Y/n)'s house' thing really affected his play.
"AGAASHI! Are you OK? You seem sad!" Bokuto, asked.
"Yeah, you've been very glum lately." Konoha added.
"... it's nothing." Keiji sighed.
"Akaashi, you can't lie to us. We know you better than that." Konoha sighed.
"... fine, so I'm lying, but so what? Just because I've been glum, it doesn't mean I'm not OK..." Keiji sighed.
"Lying won't make you feel better about what happened, you know?"
"Fine! So my mother died, and a few days ago was her birthday, and my dad decided to suddenly tell me he has a boyfriend and we're moving to his house on that day. Is that what you wanted?!" Keiji shouted. "I didn't want to put my private life on blast because of that, and I don't like his boyfriend!"

Tears spilled from Keiji's grand blue orbs as he collapsed to the ground, not wanting his mother to be replaced so soon. It's only been a year. A single year.
"Akaashi..."
"I'm going to the bathroom."
.
.
.
Keiji sat down at a bench in the neighborhood he recently moved into, blushing madly. He was about to confess to his long time crush since his first year. Now he's a second year setter. He actually also already moved into (Y/n)'s house, which is now his house as well, but he didn't feel at home. But he lived next to Konoha, which was an advantage.
"Hey Akaashi! I'm here!" Konoha panted as he ran towards Keiji. "I'm in a bit of a hurry here, so can you get straight to the point for this?"
"... Konoha-san, I really like you!" Keiji flabbergasted.
Konoha paused. "... I'm sorry, I'm actually dating Bokuto. But I hope this doesn't change anything between us."
Keiji blinked. "Oh... it doesn't change anything, don't worry."
"Mhm. Well, I need to go now. See you at practice next week."
Keiji waved, and turned around. He speed-walked back to his house.
"Oh, welcome back, Keiji. I just wanted to tell you, Koharu isn't coming back home for the weekends. He'll come back on Tuesday." (Y/n) said as he cut up some ingredients for his and Keiji's dinner.
"Mhm, OK."
(Y/n) looked back. "Is something wrong, Keiji?"
"Why do you care?" Keiji asked, annoyed.
"... you seem a bit glum." (Y/n) commented.
"I'm perfectly fine, (Y/n)." Keiji said as he walked up the stairs to his room.
(Y/n) sighed. "That's clearly a lie."
.
.
.
"Keiji, dinner's ready!" (Y/n) shouted from the kitchen.
Keiji grumbled. "I'm not hungry! Just leave it, I'll come eat it."
(Y/n) knew he wouldn't come down, but gave him the benefit of the doubt. He ate his dinner, Keiji didn't come down to the dining room yet, so he put the dinner in a container, and walked upstairs with it.
"Keiji. Do you want dinner?" (Y/n) asked.
"No, go away!" Keiji yelled back.
"... sure, but I'll leave your dinner on this table." (Y/n) replied as he left Keiji's dinner on a table near his room. "Also, if you ever need to talk about anything, I'll be here for you, OK? I understand that you wanna be alone right now."
(Y/n) walked away as Keiji looked blankly at the wall.
"Maybe he isn't so bad afterall?"

Note to Reader: I understand this book is not for everyone, if there is a writer that can write to please everyone, I have never heard of them. The MC can be frustrating in his decisions as he learns to grow and accept what and who he is. I believe this reality is unavoidable. That being said, if you feel the need to give a review, please do so, just know that I will report you if all that review seems to do is blab toxic language and insult my literary choices without giving constructive advice or alternatives. That's not just a me policy, that's a policy of this website. I'm not writing this note because I'm a writer who does not acknowledge that there are faults in my work. I know there are. That's what happens when it hasn't been professionally edited by someone other than the author. I'm saying this because I'm sick of reading 1 star or 0.5 star rated reviews that seem to do nothing but hate on the book because they don't like the story. No comments on grammar, ways to improve or suggestions for better story arcs. Just plain hate. It's not on, and I frankly shouldn't have to write this note, but needed to get it off my chest. In saying all that, thank you to those who do leave reviews that don't fall into the above category. Your appreciation of my work, or alternatively, your willingness to give advice for improvement, is appreciated.
