《Haikyuu!! x Male reader one-shots》- Sugawara Koushi -

"OK, this year's starting line-up's setter is Sugawara. The wing spiker is Azumane..."
(Y/n) blinked. He was being replaced by his friend, Koushi? He didn't want to believe it. Why?
"(Y/n), honey." He heard his step-mother call from the gym door in a warm, and loving tone. "Excuse me, coach Ukai, I need my son here right now." her tone shifted into the most freezing cold thing anyone on the team has heard.
"Yes, ma'am." Coach Ukai said as he led (Y/n) to his step-mother.
"Is something wrong, mother?" The boy asked.
"We're moving you to Inarizaki high school." she told him.
"Wait, why? I thought I was doing fine here?" he asked his step-mother, trying to understand.
"Dear, your father's company needs him to move all around Japan. I think we're going to stay at Hyogo for the rest of your high school career. I'm sorry, honey. I know how much you like Miyagi," she apologized.
"No, it's alright, mother. I completely understand your need to move. When are we leaving?" The son asked.
"In 2 days. We need you to pack up, now. Now, go get your bags, honey." The mother figure answered her son. (Y/n) nodded.
"Coach, I need to go early. My father suddenly had to move." he told his coach.
"I see. Take your bags." he told his player. His player grabbed his backpack, and gym bag, and bowed to all his teammates, his upperclassmen, and coach.
"Thank you, coach. Thank you for having me on the team for a while." The player thanked his coach and his teammates. Some cried a bit, knowing their teammate, and friend was going to leave them. "This team is going to become great, I guarantee. You all are amazing, and I hope you know that. As for now, good bye, I hope to see you again in my years."
"We will see you again! I'll make it a mission if I have to!" Suga said as he clung onto (Y/n) for dear life. As if he'd disappear if he let go.
"Koushi..." (Y/n) blinked. His face showed no emotion behind it, just like his words, and his dead (e/c) eyes. But he does feel an ocean of emotions behind his expressionless face, even if it seemed impossible.
"I just want you to know... I've fallen for you, hard. I'll still love you, even after I turn 50, OK?" Koushi confessed as he gripped his one true love's waist.
"I love you too." (Y/n) replied as he hugged Koushi back. His voice held some sort of emotion, but still sounded emotionless. He kissed (Y/n)'s lips, which the latter kissed back. "I promise, I'm not that hard to find. My parents own successful companies that can be found with a simple search. But until then, I'll see you all."
Koushi's grip loosened as (Y/n) walked out of the door of the gym with his bags, as if he had just broken up with Koushi, and moved out of his home with the male.

And just like that, a year later, Koushi still hasn't found the whereabouts of the boy that used to be by his side. The second years, and third years knew how the move had hurt Koushi like a knife to the heart and that his feelings never faded, so when Narita found out that (Y/n) was Inarizaki's middle blocker, the second years rushed to tell the third year setter.

"Suga! We have news about (L/n)-san!" Tanaka yelled.
Upon hearing his one true love's name, Koushi flipped his head around to face the second years, ignoring the confused first years' questions.
"Really? What about him?" Koushi asked, excited.
"He's featured on Volleyball Monthly. Apparently he moved to Inarizaki high school last year, and became their starting middle blocker. He had an interview as well, but that's irrelevant, we need to go to nationals, that's the only way we'll meet (L/n)-san again!" Nishinoya exclaimed.
"Yeah! Do you want to see him again, Sugawara-san?" Ennoshita asked.
"Uh- yes, of co-"
"Then we gotta win! You hear that, first years? We have to win! For Suga's love life!" Tanaka exclaimed.
"Yeah!" Hinata yelled.
"Shut up, you guys!" Daichi yelled from outside the locker room.
.
.
.
Karasuno high school's VBC was in Tokyo. They were here to compete in the Spring high volleyball tournaments. To say Koushi was excited was definitely an understatement. He was going to see the love of his life again as opponents. Even if they became opponents, they would still meet again. He was happy? Scared? Nervous. He was nervous. He tried to hide it, but it was painted all on his face. His nerves were going everywhere from excitement, euphoria, and fear. What if's filled his mind. What if (Y/n) had found another person he loved more than him? What if he didn't even like him? What if he didn't even like boys? What if-
"Suga. It'll be alright. We know you're nervous to see (L/n) again." Asahi said as he patted Suga's back.
"But what if he hates me?! He- when I kissed him... he showed no emotional reaction at all. When I kissed him, it was all I wanted, but I don't know how he feels. He could've just meant 'I love you too' in a friendly way or he didn't want to reject me in front of you guys so I wouldn't be embarrassed, or-"
"(L/n) isn't that type, Sugawara." Kiyoko interrupted him. "He's straight forward, and blunt with his words."
"Shimizu is right. I saw him reject someone in front of their friends before. He did not spare them an ounce of dignity. He was so blunt, it kind of hurt me." Daichi chuckled. "But that aside, if he says he loves you, he probably loves you."
"He even hugged you, Suga! He wouldn't even let me high five him!" Nishinoya exclaimed.
"Yeah, and his emotionlessness is just how he acts. He was always like that anyway." Tanaka shook his head
.
.
.
"Isn't that your old team, (L/n)-san?" Atsumu asked (Y/n) when they looked at the list of who they were going against the next day. The two weren't playing against anyone yet, but they were there to see their opponents and what to work on. This was something the two bonded over, which led them to become best friends despite their very different personalities. Sort of like when (Y/n) was friends with Koushi.
"Karasuno? Yeah." (Y/n) replied.
"Hm, do you know how they play?" Atsumu asked.
"Not anymore." He said as he turned around. He saw Koushi, and blushed. He was about to go greet him, but.

"...When I kissed him, it was all I wanted..."
(Y/n) paused. Did Koushi find someone new? Well, it's not like they're dating or anything. If he's pursuing someone else, it doesn't even matter, but why is it so painful? Is this... heartbreak?
"(L/n)-san? Are you OK, you look sick." Atsumu asked.
"Atsumu can you go by yourself? I think I'm sick." (Y/n) told Atsumu. "I think I'm going back to the hotel."
"Can you go back alone? I can take you back to the hotel. This is less important than your health." Atsumu said. "But do you think you can you play tomorrow?"
(Y/n) nodded. "I'll be fine, Atsumu. I just... need some air."
"OK, (Y/n)-san. Let's go back to the hotel."
I definitely got my heart broken today.
.
.
.
"But you're sure that you're OK, right?" Kita asked (Y/n). It was a bit before the match. The whole team had heard about the heartbreak when Kita was taking care of (Y/n). The extravaganza caused (Y/n) to fall ill, but he recovered at a miraculously fast pace. Kita would not stop asking (Y/n) if he was OK, even after he answered that he was fine, including now.
"Yes, Kita, I'm fine." (Y/n) answered, again.
"Just make sure you don't overwork yourself, OK? We care about you." Aran said as he smiled warmly.
(Y/n) just looked at Aran with no expression. To him, that was a smile. It's not like he didn't bother to try to smile, it's just that was a smile in his opinion. Maybe that was why he acted cold around others. Maybe that was why Koushi fell for someone new.
"(Y/n)?"
"Oh, right. I know." The man of the hour replied.
"Great." Omimi replied.
"(L/n)-san, you're very sure you can do this right, since... we're playing against Karasuno?" Suna asked.
"Yes, I can."
.
.
.
"Are you ready to see (L/n) again?" Daichi asked Koushi.
"Yep, I'm ready to go back to him." Koushi chuckled.
"Great, well what are we waiting for?!"
.
.
.
Coach Ukai switched Koushi and Kageyama to the lineup. (Y/n) scoffed. He would be face to face with Koushi on one serve. It was Inarizaki's turn to serve. Atsumu served, Nishinoya received it. Etcetera, etcetera. (Y/n) jumped to block the ball, Inarizaki scored a point. Koushi looked at (Y/n), excited to see the boy again, only to be met with dull (e/c) eyes that seemed to only hold pain, and regret. Koushi was surprised to see emotions from (Y/n), but it wasn't unwelcomed. Except it was. Koushi was met with a world of confusion. Why did he look so pained, so upset? So heartbroken.
.
.
.
It was after the game. (Y/n) was sitting around in a coffee shop in the stadium. He told the team he needed some alone time, they respected that, and left him alone. Alone. Like his whole life.
"Mother, mother. Where are you going with your bags?"
"(Y/n), I'm taking a long trip away. I'm going to be gone for a very long time, so take care, alright?"
"Alright, mother!"
Emotional. That was one word that people usually avoided when asked to describe (L/n) (Y/n). On the surface he was a cold, and emotionless person, but deep inside, somewhere in his frozen heart, was a dam of emotions, waiting to explode, and overflow. After his mother left, all the influxes of emotions he once felt faded. Everything was gone. His step-mother tried to provide everything he needed, but his emotions seemed to never return. He was alone. It wasn't like he didn't know he was going to be alone, he knew deep in his mind he'd end up alone, but he savoured his friends, and family. He only wished to have a lover in his life as well, a lover who'd care for him.
"(Y/n)?" Koushi called. (Y/n) perked up to the sound of the one that broke his heart.
"Koushi." He coldly replied.
"Are you OK? You're... kind of crying?" Koushi asked, unsure.
(Y/n) rushed to wipe away his tears. "No."
"(Y/n), you can't lie to me-"
"Well, you can't lie to me. Was the 'I'll love you until I turn 50' meaningless to you when you said it?" (Y/n) asked, his dam of emotions now had exploded, overflowed, and now overriding all his other senses. Tears fell down his face at a rapid, uncontrollable pace, and his face had 'I see red' written all over it.
"(Y/n), what are you saying?"
"Don't pretend like you don't know, Koushi. You were the one who said it; "When I kissed him, it was all I wanted."" (Y/n) coldly told Koushi. He knew he was crying. He didn't even bother to hide it anymore, he just let all his pent up stress blow up on Koushi.
"That- (Y/n)-"
"Don't '(Y/n)' me. I think we've become distant enough to go back to last name basis, Sugawara."
"No, liste-"
"Don't even try. I'm not falling for it aga-"
"(L/n) (Y/n)!" Koushi yelled, his voice echoing through the small cafe, catching the attention of nearby customers, and some employees. "You listen to me. That was about you! Your kiss was all I wanted, I cannot tell you how much I wanted to do that. I love you so much, you won't believe it!"
(Y/n) went silent, his tears still spilling like fat raindrops from a storm. "Sugawara, I-"
"Please, don't call me that. It hurts me enough that you're hurt because of me." Koushi trembled. "I don't need a reminder that you now hate me, alright?"
"Koushi..." (Y/n) said gently as he put his hand on the other male's cheek. "I really don't hate you, hell, I'm still in love with you."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Koushi looked into (Y/n)'s now love-struck (e/c) eyes. At that moment, you could feel both their hearts become one. (Y/n) smiled. He hugged the setter, and smashed his lips onto his. Koushi felt sparks of love exploding within him as he kissed him back, pulling him closer to his body. It was just like the first kiss they shared, except (Y/n) won't be walking out the door with his bags, ready to move away, like the last time.
