《Gone Boy》2

Toshinori took the ordeal hard. He was supposed to be a hero. And hero's are supposed to save people. But he knew his power was gone and that he was not good at strategizing enough to be of good use.
Yet he should have done more.
In hindsight he was a horrible teacher.
Not only was his successor hospitalized well over a month now but also because even after a month, Midoriya was not okay. For some reason the quirk-canceling bullet had altered a dormant gene of Izuku's. The same gene that caused him to have no quirk. And now not only did he lose One for All but also the ability for quirks to work on him.
And this included healing quirks. Anyone in a society where there are people with quirks to aid in all kinds of medical related activities, does not register the need to have one hundred percent knowledge over all types of non-quirk related medicines.
Nothing even remotely related to quirks could be used on poor Izuku. Not the quirk-enhanced machinery that got more accurate readings. Not for the pain relief--quirk nullifying made medicines to help with pain. Not even the regeneration quirks.
Nothing worked.
And the worst part now was that Toshiori felt a small fire back. One for All was slightly active in his body.
And it felt....wrong to be there.
It unnerved him.
It wasn't fully back, but he felt a spark of it in himself, however faint.
No one was allowed in the hospital room. Not Toshinori. Not Inko. Not Mirio or Eri or Bakugou or Aizawa. Nezu couldn't even get in.
Toshinori felt lost. He felt alone.
As a hero he had so much riding on his shoulders, not to mention the added weight of One for All. This caused him to never be able to have a family. To propose to a well loved girlfriend. To have kids. Heck, the closest relationship he ever had was with his successor whom he saw as a son.

And that was a depressing thing to realize.
He needed to get out more.
He needed to get a life.
But he decided to do that after he made sure his figurative kiddo was doing okay.
Izuku mattered more than the dang quirk. It doesn't matter if he was originally quirkless, and it sure as heck won't matter now. Right?
