I have always known I was born a cursed child.
When I was 5 years old, I made a friend.
Well we could barely speak and all we really did was play with our toys and cry until both our moms gave us chocolate and told us everything would be okay. We were still really close though and our parents were friends too.
The point is, he was my first ever friend and the only kid I seemed to get along with but then 3 years later, he passed away in a car accident.
Of course I was too young to know the truth back then so my parents just told me that he moved away with his family to a whole other country. I was so sad when I heard he moved away but even more devastated when I found out that he actually died 2 years later. My best friend wasn't on vacation, he was never coming back to me.
I struggled with making new friends after that incident but I thought it's good that I at least had my parents with me. Now fast forward to when I turned 12; My mom and I were very excited because it was my dad's birthday and we planned a surprise party for him at our house. He was at work so were waiting for him to come back when my mom got a call from the hospital after an hour or so of waiting and she broke down crying in front of me. I couldn't hear what they told her but I could already tell what happened.
You see, my father said he would be there soon but then he was an hour late and wasn't answering his phone and then we got a call from the hospital and my mom broke down crying.
This could've only meant one thing but I still hoped it wasn't true so I ran to my mom and begged her to tell me what happened, and she did.
Did I mention that I was only 12 years old? It was very devastating. Especially since I was so young, had trouble making friends, and had to grow up without a father.
After that I wasn't certain how things would go in my life but one thing I was certain of, it's that I would never leave my mother alone. The both of us went through so much when my father passed away but we promised each other we would always get back on our feet and do better together.

This plan of ours seemed so incredibly possible and certain until I came face to face with a fallen angel on one Sunday morning when the appliance store was being robbed.
I never imagined that one event could change so much in my life but it did. I always thought that the promise I made to my mom about sticking together would be easily achievable but it's so damn hard to keep this promise when I have a psychopath trying to kill me.
And all this because I lightly hit him across the face with a pan just a few times on accident.
Having a conversation with Zach made me a little more hopeful because I finally had someone that can actually provide me with true information on how to protect myself instead of the unreliable sources I found on the internet.
But as usual, just when things started getting better and I finally thought I would be able to defend myself from the devil, my curse struck again.
"Hello, brother."
In front of me stood the one and only fallen angel with the biggest smirk stamped across his face. Just the sight of him made my blood boil and I had the massive urge to punch him. I didn't though.
Only because I didn't have a pan with me.
"I am not your brother, Alexander. Not after you betrayed your father and I." The angel next to me shot his 'brother' a cold glare.
I still had no idea what their relationship was and how Alexander became a fallen angel in the first place but by the tension that rose around me, I could tell it was something serious.
"Nice to see you too bro. Oh, and look who's here as well." He turned to look at me with mischief in his eyes. "Well if it isn't your little toy. I thought you knew better than to try and hide your toys from me, Zach. Did our childhood teach you nothing?" Alexander raised his brows at his brother and sent a snobby smile in my direction. He tried taking a step towards me but Zach pulled me behind him gracefully.
"I am neither your toy nor his, by the way. Just leave me alone you creep!" My gaze was fierce as I looked into Alexander's eyes. He glared at me and tried taking another step forward but Zach shot him a look, making him halt in place.
Zach then turned to look at me and smiled but I could tell he did not appreciate my comment. "Hey, I appreciate you trying to help but you're kind of making things worse, alright? I'll handle it, don't worry." I got the memo and backed away further from Alexander.

"How cute. If I wasn't too busy trying to kill Mrs. Rapunzel over here, I would have invited you two over for a cup of tea so we could discuss just how great things are going in this world. Unfortunately, I have a job to do." Alexander yelled out arrogantly.
"I'm her guardian angel, you less intelligent being." Really? Can angels not swear? "I have a job to do as well and I'm pretty sure my job is keeping you away from her." Zach placed his hand in mine firmly and smiled in Alexander's direction. "Until next time, brother." He closed his eyes. I was so confused as to what was happening when a white light suddenly blinded my vision. It was so bright that I had to force my eyes shut and cover them with my hands. A wave of electricity travelled throughout my body and I felt like I was flying. I didn't know what was happening and how long to keep my eyes shut but after a short moment, the weird feeling disappeared and everything was back to normal. I opened my eyes again and found myself in my apartment with Zach nowhere to be seen.
What the fuck.
I looked around the living room in confusion and that's when I spotted a folded blue note taped to the table. I hesitantly grabbed the note and opened it.
Dawn,
I hope you're not alarmed after what just happened; it was only a simple teleportation trick I used. If you feel a bit off, it's nothing that can't be fixed with some sleep. Keep in mind the things I told you about and stay safe. Lord is your savior, you know?
Your beloved guardian angel,
Zachey
Zachey? Really? Out of all the guardian angels in heaven, God assigned the most childish one to me. Thank you, God.
And how the hell did he teleport here, write this note, tape it to the table, and disappear all before I even got here? Was there a traffic jam when I was teleporting? Were the other angels doing this as well? Does this even matter? I need answers.
I was drawn out of my thoughts by the sound of my mom calling me.
"Dawn? I didn't know you were back. I didn't even hear the door open." My mother came out of nowhere and glanced at the locked door in confusion.
"Oh, hey mom. I just thought you were asleep so I tried to be as quiet as possible." I shot her a smile and she returned it. "Well, I'm off to bed then?" I gave her a quick hug and walked towards the stairs.
"Wait! How was the party?" She sat on the couch and continued sipping coffee from the mug she was holding. It's midnight, how is she even drinking coffee at this hour? She takes her coffee addiction way too seriously.
"Oh, you know, it was a party that's for sure." My mom raised her eyebrows. I nodded and continued, "Yeah, it was something. You could almost say... magical?" I faked a smile. She looked at me weirdly so I quickly turned around and continued going up the stairs before she could ask any more questions.
If only she knew.
I closed my bedroom door and leaned on it with a heavy sigh. I learned so many things today and it wasn't until I got here that I started processing everything so I felt tired.
I walked over to my bed and took my phone out.
55 messages new messages.
Skylar🌸:

I shook my head as I continued looking at the rest of her texts. I have one interesting friend...
I'm fine, chill. And nope! No guy here. Just me sitting in my bedroom alone. I walked back home and that's it. got a bit dizzy so it must be all that drinking haha.
I hope she doesn't question the drinking thing. I've never drank alcohol in my life and I don't plan on doing so any time soon. It's also very unlikely for me to walk back home.
Skylar🌸:
Oh alright. Sorry again for ditching you. Love you! Night boo.
I smiled and typed back.
Love you too! Night.
I placed my phone on the bedside table and grabbed a book that I started reading yesterday. 'Before I Fall' by Lauren Oliver.
At some point while reading, my eyes slowly gave up on me and I fell asleep in my dress and with the book in hand.
