"Now's not a good time (Y/N)," he said, brushing your hand off his shoulder like it was a fly, as he continued to face his other Alpha friends and continue their conversation.

"Then when is, this is important." you berated as you reached for his elbow.

Finally turning to face you, he let out a deep growl. "Go away, now."

You stepped back, flinching away from the fangs that were starting to grow sharper and longer from his mouth. Too afraid to push the subject further, you ran, hearing the jeering from the rest of the group as if they were gunshots following behind you.

~~

"Watch out!" you growled.

Gently nipping at the falling pups nape, you carried them over to the cushioned area of the room. They squirmed and pawed at the air in front of them, little whines and growls emitted from their throat until you sat them next to the others in the room.

"You can't be jumping off tables. You're going to break your neck if you do that."

The child only growled in response, which only became a pathetic grrr as their grey fur faded away to reveal soft skin underneath. They sat there for a moment, staring at you then at their smooth hands as they ran them through the white faux fur carpet beneath them. Not a moment after their shoulders rise and they scamper off to where the rest of the children were, immediately tackling an unsuspecting victim, who whined as they were thrown to the ground.

Sighing, you scratched behind your ear, only to have a smaller, more gentle hand replace it and scratch the space quickly.

"You really need to go for a run if you're just your wolf all the time."

Kiyoko, another omega, stood behind you, human body wrapped in a track set meant for a smooth transition between from. Yawning, you did the same as her, letting your (H/C) fur melt away to reveal the black lounge clothes you wore. Standing up, you wobbled a bit then let your weight settle against the table the kid a jumped from before.

"I can't, Hitoka is out sick. So I'm here on my own."

Hitoka, a year younger than yourself and another omega, worked at the nursery with you. This created a back and forth dynamic that let your animal forms have a chance to burn energy as the other took over. With her being out sick, and other omegas having their own position to take care of among the community, you were left with your other half becoming restless as the outdoor stimulation was unobtainable when there where pups to be taken care of. Being at the bottom of the hierarchy as a female omega didn't help either, because, the scent, sight, or sound of the young pups immediately set off a motherly instinct and you couldn't leave them be until you knew they were in safe hands.

You groaned and let your head fall back. "I can't even go to the hunt tomorrow! I'll have to be here for the whole day and watch everyone else's kids."

Kiyoko put on a sad smile, hand coming to rest on your shoulder. "Speaking of everyone else's kids, I'm here to pick up my own."

Opening your eyes, you looked at the clock behind you before sitting up straight. Calling the girl over from the crowd, she scampered over, looking like a small version of her mother's own wolf form. Jumping into her mother's arms, she shifted mid-air. Landing with her small arms wrapped around her mom's neck.

They waved as they left the room and turned down the hallway. Over the next hour, more parents arrived to pick up their children, each giving a thankful wave over their shoulder. Once the last pup left with their parent, you packed up as quickly as you could, wanting to get some time in to run around before the sun set. You were packing your bag when a knock sounded from the doorway. Breathing in, you growled at the overbearing scent and presence of an Alpha.

"Miya, shouldn't you be out getting ready for the hunt tomorrow?" you looked over to the man on the doorway, his lanky figure hunched over as he leaned against the frame. A lazy smirk was painted across his face. When he didn't respond you just snared and continued packing.

"In other words, why are you here?"

"(Y/N), please, call me Atsumu." he laughed shuffling his way in.

His attitude was one you had become accustomed to, the way he carried himself with a sort of lax confidence. The flirtatious comments that held no meaning, his easily swayed view on what was important, you knew it all.

Back when everyone was branching off and beginning to fill their roles, the two of you had begun to separate, both coming from a primarily Alpha ranked family you grew up as friends. But as you grew older, it became obvious that you didn't fit the bill, falling into the Omega range instead of the assumed Alpha position.

This alone created a rift between you two. As he charged on, taking on leadership roles in various ways around the community and studying more desired courses throughout schooling, you were in no position to do that, instead, your Omega rank had slotted you into a homier occupation, being a stand-in mom.

As post-secondary came around, you had begun completely separate lives, never speaking unless with family. Every attempt to speak to the outside of those parameters would be brushed off by the other, more so by him, until you stopped bothering and never spoke at all.

That was the consistent trend for years, until after graduation when suddenly at your new job, he decided to turn up and try to make amends. To which you consistently tried to ignore.

"Get to the point."

Sighing the man leaned against a shelf before painting a teasing pout on his face. His arms crossed over his chest and he tilted his chin upwards, creating a dramatised angle of height, making it seem as though he was much taller than you, taller than he already was.

"Is that any way to speak to an Alpha?"

"Maybe not any Alpha, but definitely the way to speak to you." you snarled throwing your jacket over your shoulders grabbing your keys and bag, ready to lock the door and head home.

"Wow, (Y/N) you seem tense. Do want me to help you release stress?" he teased following you out the door.

Sticking the key into the lock of the door you chuckled and twisted your wrist. The hallway was relatively quiet, sounds of older students shuffling in their classrooms preparing to leave were muffled by the closed doors to every room.

"Ha, nice one Miya. How often does that one work?"

The tall man with bleached hair followed behind you, keeping in time with your smaller steps. You looked over your shoulder to look at him. He had his head tilted up and to the side as if he was counting.

"Well, it works one hundred percent of the time if I throw in a compliment. Speaking of which."

You watched as his eyes trailed from the ceiling to your shoulders and down your back.

"Haha, look Miya. I'm not in the mood. I need to get home and go for a run. I don't have time for your unwanted flirting. Come back tomorrow when I'm less stressed." You grinned before turning around pointing a finger at his chest and walking backwards through the main exit of the building. "Oh wait, you can't. It seems like now's not a good time."

Each word was dripping with malice as if coated by bitter honey. Every word had intent behind them and Atsumu knew it, feeling each emphasised word as if an arrow to the chest. Halting his steps just outside of the exit of the school, his eyes followed as you continued forward, shifting into your wolf form and running down the wide sidewalk.

~~

Every few days or so he shows up again. Hitoka was beginning to see a trend in your ever souring mood with every visit he made. Sending you home earlier than normal was her solution to the problem. So when Atsumu showed up in the nursery the next day and saw that you weren't there he immediately approached the small blonde.

Your door was locked when he got there, and the insistent banging was something that you could tolerate until you heard the scratching and breaking of wood. Rushing from your desk to the front door, you swung it open with worrying breaths. Seeing the large wolf in front of you, his fur standing on end and shoulders hunched, set you on edge. But making eye contact with the black-eyed beast and recognising the frustrated snarl he wore, you gave a deep growl in return and stamped the door in his approaching face, satisfied with the angered whine that came from the other side of the door.

"(Y/N), let me in!" Definitely, in his human form, Atsumu's voice sounded desperate as he helplessly whacked the door.

Leaning against the opposite side of the door you gave him a quick, obviously fake excuse for not permitting entry.

He continued to whine for a few minutes, and you were holding your ground against his constant demands for you to open the door and "obey an Alpha's order" to which you scoffed at and continued to relax against the door.

"(Y/N), I'm sorry. Please open the door. I want my best friend back."

You let all the air escape you as you looked down to your feet against the wood floor.

"Do you really mean that? Because all your actions speak otherwise."

The strength in your legs gave out and you slid down the side of the door and let your head rest against it.

"Look, I've been terrible to you the past couple years, I'm sorry, I really am. But I want to be friends again, I miss being your best friend. Please, just let me inside."

Sighing again, you stood and opened the door. Looking down you were met with the sight of Atsumu lying down, hair slightly frazzled from the sudden fall. Grinning, he stood up and immediately made home on your couch.

~~

Splitting the couch down the centre like many times before, the two of you leaned against either side, having an armrest for yourself. A random movie played on the screen of in front of you, and the pizza on the table was almost completely gone, with you only holding your 3rd slice of the night. Groaning, you watched pathetically as Atsumu went for his nth slice.

"I hate you."

"I love you too."

"It's 1 am. Don't you have Alpha duties to attend to tomorrow?" you asked, the term still carrying that bit of spit for years prior.

Atsumu chuckled, slapped a hand down on your knee and gave it a bit of a shake.

"Nope, Tomorrow's not a good time for work. I'm spending it with you."
