This is going to be hard." You sighed.
You flopped through the libraries available files on World War Two looking for possible people that could be of use. You pressed your back into the soft seat as you shifted positions.
"There's so many people we could get away with but there's barely anything available in the files to go off of."
Asahi walked toward you from one of the many bookshelves that surrounded you. He held up a couple hard cover books, waving them in the air for you to see before putting them down on the table.
"Well here are some stories written by people who were in the war. We could go off that right?"
You nodded as you pushed the heavy files away from you to replace them with a smaller book.
"Why couldn't we just ask the AI it would've taken less time."
"Because it freaks me out that you can talk to something that isn't living and it will respond. It's not normal." He said flopping down in the seat next to you.
"Not my problem that Susan scares you."
"I'm sorry, I couldn't quit catch that".
The suddenly voice from the table caused Asahi to jump in his seat and hold the old book in front of him as if it would provide some sort of protection.
"Not now, Susan." you said placing a hand on Asahi's arm to try and get him to relax.
"How about we just read?" you suggested, placed a light squeeze on his arm before look back at the book on the table.
~~~
"I don't like this."
"Well you don't need to like in! Just stay hidden. I thought I was the worried one!"
"Your right. I take my comment back."
Hiding in the trees to stay out of sight from the large fence that was about 800 metres away, you and Asahi prepped your equipment. You held your remote in hand and nodded to Asahi as he ran back to the ship to prepare, tying his grown out hair in the process.
"(Y/N), read this one."
Asahi held the book he was skimming through out to you. It showed a chapter closer to the end of the book with two series of numbers for the title.
"What's this?" you asked taking the book from Asahi's someone cool hands and into your own.
"Runaways." he said, now flipping through a file that was rested on the table.
You nodded looking down at the page. The story had been recounted by a third party in a camp. The two men involved only being addressed by the numbers 1 and 2, which correstponded with the beginning numbers at the beginning of the page.
"They escaped a concentration camp? Do you know how risky this is?" you asked as you shook the book repeatedly as if it was a stress reliever.
Asahi grabbed your hands to stop them from shaking before kneeling down in front of your chair. "Hey, shouldn't I be the worried one? You've done this before. Alone too."
"That's the problem." you sighed dropping the book on the table and grabbing his hands again. "Azumane, if I got killed while trying to retrieve you there wouldn't have been a problem. It was only me, I could take care of myself. It's you, I don't want you to get hurt."
"I'll be fine." he insisted.
"You are staying in the ship."
"No I'm not."
"Of course your not."
Asahi came back out from the ship, badges in hand.
"They won't understand us otherwise. They probably don't speak anything other than German."
You pinned the badge into your uniform and his back behind the tree.
"From what it said in the book was that They had gotten to the tree line just after they were given 'break', so that means that it was noon when the broke out, guards would have been switching watch so that would be why 1 and 2 didn't get caught when running." you leaned your weight against the large tree and looked to Asahi who was only a few feet away.
"So we have about a minute." he said as he looked at the camp that was filled with people in stripped clothing and shaven heads.
The two of you stood in silence as you waited for the men to make their move.
And then it happened. A bit off to the left corner you saw two figures who seemed to crawl through a small hole in the fence and jump into the forrest.
"Lets go."
Running through the trees the two of you managed to not make a sound as you got behind the running men.
They had limp and bony bodies that could barley hold up their clothing. They were slowing down due to lack of energy before fully fainting in a large flower bed that managed to support their weight.
"We are about 900 metres away, we should be okay and not get caught up in any trouble with police." you said picking up the man who had more gentle features.
Asahi did the same with the other man and the two of you began to walk quietly back to the ship.
"I was expecting them to put up a fight." Asahi said as the ship came into view through all the trees.
You shifted the man in your arms you get him in a more comfortable position. "They have barely eaten in weeks. I'm surprised they even ran that far. They wouldn't have been able to throw a punch even if they tried."
You walked into the ship after Asahi and pressed the button to close the door once you made it. You walked into a double beded room where Asahi had set down 1 along one of the beds.
"This was more peaceful than when I met you."
You placed 2 down, rubbing a hand on his head. "It's much more gruesome in my opinion. At least this time we didn't need to get involved in the fighting."
You looked at Asahi as he took care of 1 as much as he could. "We should get to a more secluded area, probably one where fighting isn't insane."
You nodded and headed for the room door.
"I'll take care of that. Could you prepare some food for when they wake up? Not too much. Thier bodies need to adjust."
Asahi nodded and followed you out.
~~~~
2 had woken up first. His eyes opened to see you getting some fresh clothes out of the closet to lay them on the edge of the bed.
"What? Did?" noticing the soft voice you shot up and moved to his side.
"Hey, shh, you don't need to say anything. Your safe. You don't need to worry." You tapped your badge as you spoke, German is what the man heard instead of English.
He motioned for you to help him sit up and you did, making it so his back rested on a pillow. When he managed to raise his head up to see his friend across the room you could see his shoulders lift higher.
The tears that began to fall quickly were met by your hand to wipe them away.
"My name's (Y/N) (L/N) I'm from the future. I'm here with my friend Asahi who I saved in World War One. What's your name?" your hand rested underneath the man's chin as the other held soup up to his mouth so he could eat.
"I am Koushi Sugawara. My friend is Sawamura Daichi. Where are we?"
Smiling you held the spoon up to his lips as he slowly got used to the feeling of food going through his body.
"At the moment? We are somewher hidden in the Philippines. But soon we will be in England, in the future. But both you and your friend need to get some food before that happens."
Koushi limply nodded as he took another spoonful of you soup Asahi prepared.
"Why are we where? Why did you save us?"
Getting another spoonful up to his lips you heard Asahi through the door as he moved things around, hoping to make some room for two more people.
"Because that's what some people deserve. A chance at life better than their own. And that's what I hope to go you and Daichi. A new chance at life."
"I thought we were going to die."
You nodded slowly, "you were. There was no trace of you after you managed to run away."
"But look at this." you said taking the now now empty bowl out of his lap and into the side table.
"You can now rest easy and sleep with the worry if you'll die tomorrow." you helped Koushi lie back down on the bed and tuck him into the blanket. "Now sleep, you deserve it."
You closed the door behind you as you left the room. Asahi was sweeping the door with an old broom you had swollen from the janitors closet at your university.
"So what do you think Mr. Kim will think when we get back?" he asked.
"I don't know, Azumane. Probably scold us for using the machine over the weekend while he was supposed to be relaxing and not fretting over a pair of rambunctious 20 year olds."
Asahi laughed and sat down on one of the seats in the room.
"Well. Now he can fret over two more."
"He's gonna kill me."
