"What are you?"
Kuroo looked at her. His hand that held the stake dropped to his side. (Y/N) heard the thud of the stake when it fell to the floor. Kuroo step forward, his face looked pained.
"Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" he asked.
(Y/N) ignored his question. There was a dull pain in her arm and head, but the adrenaline that was rushing through her body bypassed the felling. "What are you?"
"I'm a vampire."
(Y/N) shook her head backing away. Then she stopped. The mysterious disappearances happening, the bodies that were found drained of blood, it all made sense. Kuroo's eyes met hers, (Y/N) turned her back and ran.
Kuroo sighed and slumped against a tree. He could have used his vampire speed and caught up with her in a matter of seconds, but he couldn't move. So he sat there.

(Y/N) shouldn't have ran.
She was doing well, too, until she passed out.
She was so close to reaching a place where she could be seen by other people. By the time she saw people, the dull pain in her head and arm sharpened. Her head pounded and then there was nothing.

Kuroo went looking for (Y/N). He followed the path that they took to get to the bridge, but she never spotted her. Once he came out of the forest, Kuroo saw one of (Y/N)'s friends. He walked up to her and gently tapped her arm.
"Have you seen (Y/N)?" He asked, his eyebrows drawing closer together.
"No," they said. "Wasn't she with you? I thought I saw you two go into the forest."
"She said she had to go, but I found her phone on the ground. I was hoping that she would still be here."
The girl shrugged. "I don't know where she is, but I hear that there's this random person around the forest. People are starting to freak out and leave. Maybe she heard about that and left." She looked down at the cup in her hand. "You know that—"
When she looked up Kuroo wasn't there. She whipped her head around, but there was no sign of him.

Kuroo speed home. He threw his jacket on the floor and poured a glass of whatever alcohol he was drinking that week. He was about to pour his third drink when he felt his phone go off. Without checking the caller ID, he pick it up.
"What?"
"That's a rude way to answer this phone," a voice unknown by Kuroo said. The voice was deep. He pulled the phone away from his ear to see who was calling him, though that didn't help because it was only numbers.
"Who is this?"
"You know," the person said, "just for that I will kill her in front of you. (Y/N) does have really nice hair, it would be a shame to see it missing from her head."

Kuroo tensed. "What do you want?"
"I think you already know that. What I want to know is why are you obsessed with her. I mean, I'm all for a pretty face, but is it because she looks like her?"
The phone hung up.
Kuroo gripping his glass and threw it over the fireplace. Pieces of glass shattered everywhere, scattering around the burning fire.

Kuroo walked up the stairs of a white painted house. The floorboards creaked under the touch of his heavy boots. When his hand went up to knock, the door flew open. A boy a bit younger than him opened the door.
"Kenma," he said. "I need you help."
The boy shook his head. "Even though I am your friend, Kuroo, I stopped dealing with vampires many years ago. You know what happened."
"I know, but one little locater spell won't make the world collapse." He leaned against the door frame and grinned at Kenma. "Please."
"Fine," Kenma sighed, and he walked back into the house.
Kuroo step forward, only to be blocked. It seemed to be like an invisible door. "Uh...Kenma..."
He turned around and smiled. "You can come in."
Kuroo placed his hand in the middle of the door frame to find no resistance. He sighed and stepped into the house. He waited in the dining room until Kenma came back with candles and a map of the area.
Kenma held out his hand. "As you know, I need something of theirs."
Kuroo pulled out (Y/N)'s phone. He wasn't lying about that. When he was walking back, he hand found (Y/N)'s phone lying on the ground. That was the first thing he took as a sign that something was wrong. "Would this work? I don't have anything else of hers."
Kenma sighed and took the phone out of Kuroo's hand. "I guess. It might not work as well as something personal through."
"It'll have to do."
Kenma held the the phone with both hands. He spread sand like pebbles onto the map and began to chant. The height of the fire grew, the room was hot and silent. Slowly, the pebbles began to move from the middle of the map to a place on the map creating a line of pebbles.
The fire died down and Kenma stopped chanting. He looked down at the map and point to the place where the pebble path spotted.
"She's here."

Kuroo chose to drive. It wasn't that he couldn't vampire speed his way there, but the time he would get there, he would be too tired to fight (if necessary).
It was night fall when he arrived at the abandoned hospital. "It had to be a hospital. Why not a public community center?"
He walked the perimeter of the hospital. One room on the third floor and a dim light radiating from it. Kuroo walked through the doors of the building. It was dark and smelt like mold, but what is there to expect from an abandoned hospital.

He made his way up to the third floor and in the direction of the dim light.
No one was there.
He opened the door to the room. (Y/N) was strapped on a chair. Her hands were tried to the arms of the chair by leather straps and her ankles were tied to the front legs of the chair. Her head was tilted down to the left. Blood ran down the right side of (Y/N)'s neck, and small holes beside each other where place at the top part of her neck.
Kuroo moved closer to her. He placed a hand on her right cheek and lifted it so she was facing forward. (Y/N)'s head drooped down. He put two fingers where her pulse should be and felt something weak.
She wasn't dead.
"She was delicious." Kuroo snapped his head around. A man was standing there. His voice was familiar. "But you're too late. Unfortunately, we couldn't kill her in front of you. He wanted to do it tonight, but you didn't show up. I didn't tell you where we were, so I'm assuming that you found a witch."
So, Kuroo thought, he doesn't know she isn't dead. "If she's dead then why is she tied to a chair?"
The man smirked. "Before he drained her of blood, I gave her some of mine."
Kuroo tensed. If a vampire gave a human blood before they die, they would turn into a vampire, but they would have to drink blood first.
The man sped behind (Y/N) and put one hand at the bottom of her chin and another one on the top of her head, putting her in a headlock. Kuroo stepped forward, but the man only tensed and tighten his grip on (Y/N)'s head.
"Watch it. One more step and I kill her."
"Who is the person you speak of? The person her tried to kill her?" Kuroo asked. He hand to wait for the right moment, or it could cost him (Y/N)'s life.
"That doesn't concern you."
There was silence.
"Well," he said, "since you're not talking anymore, I should take that as a sign that I should kill her."
Kuroo sped behind the man and pulled him off of (Y/N), body-checking him into the wall. Kuroo put the man in between himself and the wall. His hand on the person's throat. "Tell me who he is!"
The man smiled. "There's no point. Even if I tell you, you will kill me anyways. If you let me go, I'll tell you."
"Never," Kuroo spat, "you'll just kill (Y/N)."
"She is going to die. She's human. Humans are born to die."
"Not today."
Kuroo thrusts his hand into the man's chest and pulled out his heart. The man went lump and Kuroo let him drop to the ground. The hand that held his heart was drenched with blood. He let the heart fall to the floor and rushed over to (Y/N). He tried not to touch her with the hand that was drenched in blood.
When she was out of the restraints, Kuroo put one arm under her legs and another around her waist. Then he carried her out of eerie hospital.
•──────⋅☾ ☽⋅──────•
"KENMA!!!" Kuroo shouted. "OPEN THE DOOR."
The door open and Kenma stood there. "What?"
"She needs your help," he said. Kuroo was still carrying her. He left his car at the hospital, he knew that if were to drive, (Y/N) might die, and he couldn't take that risk.
Kenma took one look at (Y/N) and let Kuroo into his house. He walked into the living room and placed (Y/N) gently down.
"How long has she been like this?" Kenma asked. He got out herbs and other things that Kuroo had no idea what they were.
"I don't know. I found her like this. Kenma," Kuroo said. Kenma looked glanced at Kuroo but didn't stop what he was doing. "They gave her vampire blood. I tried to gave her some but she wouldn't take it."
Kenma nodded and went back to what he was doing. Kuroo could do nothing. He could only watch.
•──────⋅☾ ☽⋅──────•
After a while, Kenma told Kuroo to wash up. "I don't what you getting more blood on my carpet. You know where the bathroom is."
No matter how much soap Kuroo used, he couldn't get his hand back to it's natural colour. The dried blood had dyed his hand a light pink and there was still some blood under his fingernails.
He walked back downstairs. When he reached the bottom, Kenma was coming out of the living room, holding all of his things.
"Is she okay?" Kuroo asked. He tried to step around Kenma, but he moved in front of Kuroo.
"She's fine," he said. "As you know, as long as she doesn't die in the next 24 hour she won't become a vampire. The blood would leave her system by then."
"Okay," Kuroo said. "Is she wake?"
Kenma nodded. "But there's —hey wait!"
Kuroo moved past Kenma into the living room. (Y/N) was sitting up on the couch rubbing her neck. He moved in front of her and placed a hand on her leg. "You okay?"
(Y/N) laughed humorlessly. "I'm not sure that I'll ever be described as okay."
"I'll help you be okay."

2nd Chance
It's my first time writing a story so you might spot a lot of amateur mistakes but feel free to criticize my writing as much as you like. Anyways, to give you a quick idea of what the story is all about, the original title of this novel was supposed to be "The Yankee in Another World" but when I thought about writing that in the cover I immediately thought 'HELL NAW' and went with a different one and I feel like the new title captures the essence of this story more. because although it's categorized as an Isekai, the story is more focused on redemption rather than the Isekai fantasy. Hopefully, I'll be able to update this synopsis once I thought of one.
