You were walking with Niiyama Girls High to the gym for the tournament you were playing at. Coincidentally, the boys were playing their games as well. You walked onto the bleachers, with your team, and sat down; you watched the game that was being played by the boys.
It was Johnzenji High vs Aōbajōsai.
They were on the second set; the score was 14-14. Both teams had one set, this match would decide who was moving on to the next match.
You could tell by the way the teams which one was going to win. Next thing you knew, the ref blew the whistle and pointed to Aobajōsai's side of the court; they had won.
Your next match started in an hour, so you decided to get some fresh air. You excused yourself from your team, and walked outside. The boys had wrapped up their game, so they were outside. Johnzenji didn't really seem discouraged about their lost.
"Hey, Terushima-san!" someone said from behind the team with the yellow and white jerseys.
You stopped in your tracks and watched the exchange.
The team turned around to see Aobajōsai. "Oh, Oikawa, what's up?" The captain of Johnzenji said.
"Oh, nothing, just enjoying the praise of my fangirls," Oikawa said, pulling the hem of his track jacket.
A guy with spiky hair suddenly slapped Oikawa on the head. He jumped and turned into a potted plant.
You squealed, causing both of the teams to look at you. "What? A guy normally doesn't just turn into a potted play by getting hit on the head!" You exclaimed.
The spiky head boy picked up the potted plant, and held it with one arm. "Actually, it does."
"H-how d-does that? HUH?!"
Both teams looked at you like you lost your mind. "You do know that we can transform into plants," Yuda Kaneo said, from behind the crowd. "Everyone can transform into something, can't you?"

"Umm... I don't know, I've never tried to because I didn't know that you could. I mean that if I knew that I could then I've would've. But I didn't know so how could I possibly transform into something? How long could you do that, by the way? Were you born with it? Or does it just happen? Or—"
"Why don't you try?" Terushima interrupted your slight ramble.
"And how am I supposed to do that?" you asked.
"Like this," he said, and came at you.
You saw his teeth grow sharp, and his skin grew pale. Your vision lowered, and you felt your back bend over and your eyes grew dark. You felt your body leap forward, onto Terushima, but you didn't know you were doing it.
Suddenly, you felt yourself turn back to you. Your vision blurred, but sharpen in seconds.
You were on the ground hovering over another body, Terushima, you were pinning his arms down and your legs were in either said of him.
"See, that's how you do it," he said from underneath you.
You quickly got up and backed away. Both team's eyes were on you. "W-what just h-happened???" you asked.
Terushima got up and stood straight in front of you. "What just happened? You turned into a werewolf, that is. Transforming into something is a reflex. It's only happens when something scares you or your body feels like you're endanger," he said, with total calmness.
"So, what do you transform into? All I remember is pale skin and sharp teeth," you said.
Both teams were looking upon you exchange, and decided to let you two be alone.
"Well can't you tell? I'm a vampire. And I bet your blood is the sweetest out there," he said.

You laughed. "Really? What are you going to say next? 'You only crave the taste of my blood?' or 'I will only bite you forever and always?' how cheesy can you get?"
He took a step closer to you.
"Well, Little Wolf, if that's what you want."
"Really?" You challenged. "You really want to do that? You just figured out that I can turn into a wolf and you want to try that?"
"Yes, I do."
"Then bring it."

The Patchwork Realms
Athos is a good dog. He likes frisbee, bacon, and his family (SmolFriend, Mom, and Dad). He's not so keen on falling through an interdimensional portal to a fantasy world where floating boxes tell you that you've just been given status as the 'Supreme Exemplar' of your species, a powerful package of abilities that includes human-level intelligence. Sure, being smart is nice but less so when it comes with the need to survive in a land made from bits of different dimensions stitched together like patches in a quilt. A thousand species, a thousand lands, sorcery and super science rubbing elbows, wars and intrigue everywhere...it's exhausting for a good dog who just wants to go home! Note that this is a work in progress with lots of fiddly numbers so I will occasionally need to go back and fix errors, and this might affect events of earlier chapters. I'll try to keep this to a minimum and will post a note whenever it happens. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
