Madeline's POV- December 2017

Cody and I chose to sit out and wait for the crowd of people to slowly disperse. There was no reason to leave and have to sit miserably in traffic.

"How did you like your first hockey game?" I asked Cody.

He adjusted his jacket before looking at me.

"It's cold"

The tip of his nose was pink as were his cheeks. I'm pretty sure even his ears were pink under the beanie he was wearing.

"Winter sports are interesting though"

I laughed.

"Come on, let's head out," I said.

"Lead the way"

He followed me up the set of stairs, and just as we were making our way towards an exit my phone started ringing. I stopped walking and began to look through my purse. Once I had the phone in my hand, I answered the call.

"Hi, William" I greeted.

"Hey, have you left yet?"

"We have not" I replied.

"Do you mind waiting up for me? "

I looked at Cody.

"William needs a ride" I told him.

"Where do we wait for him?"

"Where do we wait for you?" I asked.

"I'll have someone go look for you"

"Alright, see you in a bit" I said.

"Thank you"

"No problem, see you in a bit" I replied.

I ended the call and looked at Cody.

"Someone is coming to get us" I stated.

He nodded, and thankfully we did not wait that long, a worker soon approached us.

"Good evening"

I smiled at the young man.

"It's nice to see you Frank" I greeted.

The man returned the smile.

"It's nice to see you too Miss Madeline"

He looked at Cody.

"You must be Cody, I have heard a lot about you"

Cody smiled.

"All good, I hope"

Frank nodded.

"You're all Maddy talked about"

He then cleared his throat when Cody turned to look at me.

"If you two could follow me"

We did as told, and once he led us into a hallway I spoke up.

"I saw your grandbaby got to go home" I brought up.

He had recently become a grandparent.

"Yes, he was discharged last night. My daughter is thankful to finally have him home"

His daughter gave birth to a 7-month premature baby. After a whole month of being in the hospital, he finally went home last night. Little baby Elijah was finally healthy enough to go home.

"You're going to make a great nurse"

I smiled.

"I hope to see you around Miss Madeline, but not at a hospital"

I nodded agreeing with him.

"Say hi to your daughter for me" I said.

"Of course, Cody it was nice to meet you"

Cody offered him a smile and nodded.

"William asked I bring you to the family room"

I bit the inside of my cheek. That was the last place I'd be in.

"It was nice to see you Frank" I told him bidding farewell.

He nodded and opened the door. Cody followed me into the room. By the looks of it, most of the older guys and their families were gone. How unfortunate, they were the nice ones. Everyone seemed to be in their small groups, except one person who sat alone...in the middle of the room.

"Barbara?" I asked.

Who was Barbara? She was the sister of one of the nurses I had my clinicals with. Her sister, Selina actually took care of Poppy while I was out of town. We met when I went to drop him off.

"Madeline"

I smiled.

"How's your cat?"

She stood up as I made my way over to her.

"He's at home probably looking out a window" I answered.

"What a life to live"

We hugged and when we pulled away I introduced her to Cody.

"It's nice to meet you"

"She's a big Dodger fan" I told Cody when she looked at him with wide eyes.

He offered her a smile.

"Well sorry to disappoint you at the end of the season"

She shook her head and crossed her arms.

"You'll get it next year"

He chuckled.

"Or eventually"

"That's the spirit!"

I looked at Cody.

"Her sister took care of Poppy while I visited you" I told him.

"There's no need to call me Barbara, you two can call me Bobbi"

That's when it all clicked to Cody.

"You're the dancer"

She smiled.

"Congrats on your win"

"Thank you, it was a nice way to end my dancing career"

Bobbi was about to start a Masters/Doctorate program at the University of Toronto in Pathology, but to most of America, she was known for being on Dancing with the Stars. She was more than just a pretty face, and was actually really smart. While balancing her time with Dancing with the Stars she majored and graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor's of Science in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics. After her graduation she chose to take a gap year. During that time she submitted her Grad School applications and competed on Dancing with the Stars. She placed second last season with David Ross, retired catcher for the Chicago Cubs.

"What a way to end it" I stated.

"So what brings you here?"

"I'm William Nylander's roommate" I explained.

She smiled.

"That makes sense"

"What about you?" I asked.

"I'm actually going out on a date with one of the players"

On cue, the door opened.

"And that is him"

Auston paled when he saw me standing next to Bobbi.

"I need to see your cat again, so we should meet up"

She pulled her phone out of her purse and handed it to me.

"Uh, hi guys"

I offered Auston a smile and reached for Cody's arm when I noticed Cody sizing Auston up.

"Hey, Auston, nice to see you" I greeted.

"Oh, you guys know each other?"

To my surprise, Auston nodded.

"Yeah, she's actually my older sister's bestfriend"

She turned to me.

"What a small world"

"We should go"

She nodded and smiled at Cody and I as I handed her back her phone.

"Well it was nice to meet you Cody, and it was nice to see you again Madeline"

None of us noticed William walk in.

"Ready to go?"

We all turned to look at William, and I nodded at him.

"Let's go" I said.

It was pretty awkward...for Auston at least because he led the way towards the parking lot. Once we were in the comfort of my own car, William cleared his throat.

"That girl is going to get her heart broken"

"Why do you say that?" I asked.

"How well do you know her?"

He did not answer my question.

"She's the sister of the nurse who took care of Poppy" I replied.

I turned on the car.

"He's still sleeping around Maddy"

Of course, he was.

"She seems like a nice girl, but...maybe warn her about him"

My phone chimed.

"Message from Auston Matthews"

A robotic voice then proceeded to read the text out loud,

"We need to talk"
