《Every Night || Cody Bellinger》Seven

Madeline's POV- October 2017
The Dodgers were unable to complete a sweep against the Cubs meaning Game 5 was tomorrow at 8 PM. I couldn't make it to Game's 3, 4, and 5 in Chicago because I had a midterm tomorrow. Cody was not alone though, his family was with him. They also understood that I couldn't exactly miss tomorrow's mandatory class. If the Dodgers advanced to the World Series they were going to play either the Astros or the Yankees. Both were competitive teams, so it was going to be an interesting series. In order to get to the World Series, they needed to win one more game.
"Hi Poppy" I greeted.
I had no clue as to where he was, but I knew he was near. The bell on his collar jingled as he moved gave it away. He made his presence known before I could start looking for him by jumping on the couch.
"Let's get you fed" I told him.
He hopped off the couch and followed me to the kitchen where his food and water bowls were.
"You eat while I take a quick shower" I ordered.
My phone chimed, and I pulled it out of my pocket once my hands were washed. William had just scored his second of the season, and the Leafs led the Red Wings, 6-3. While Poppy ate, I grabbed my backpack and made my way up the stairs to my room where I quickly set my backpack down before getting my PJs to shower. By the time I got out of the shower, the hockey game was over. Once my hair was combed I grabbed my notebook and walked downstairs. I normally didn't study the night before an exam, but I wanted to review the notes I took during my professor's office hours. Since I had a light dinner, I made myself 2 grilled cheese sandwiches.
"Are you keeping me company?" I asked Poppy as I placed my plate of sandwiches on the dining table.

He rubbed himself against my legs before letting me sit down. I was about halfway through looking through my notes and almost finishing my sandwich when Cody called.
"Hello, my love" I greeted.
"Hey"
By the looks of it, he had just showered. His hair was crazy wild, but it looked damp.
"Did you just get to your hotel?" I wondered.
"Yeah, I'm ready for bed"
I smiled as he lied down and groaned a bit.
"Same, I'm eating something before going to bed" I told him.
"Did you skip dinner?"
"No, I just got hungry. It's been a long day" I replied.
He smiled.
"You're going to do great on your exam tomorrow"
"I sure hope so because it's worth 35% of my overall grade" I stated.
"Did you catch the game?"
I shook my head.
"No, I got home as it was wrapping up, but I'll watch the highlights in a bit" i replied.
"Don't even bother. Your favorite hit a homer"
I raised an eyebrow.
"And who exactly is my favorite?" I wondered.
Cody grinned and I immediately knew who he was talking about"
"Of all people he is my least favorite on that team" I stated.
He just laughed. Who exactly hit a homer? Javy Baez.
"I miss you"
I slowly nodded.
"I miss you too" I replied back.
He sighed.
"Only a couple of more weeks"
He yawned and shifted a bit.
"Are you studying?"
"I'm just looking through some of my notes I took during my professor's office hours" I answered.
"That makes sense"
"Do you have your own room?" I suddenly asked.
"Yeah, it sucks you can't be here. I'd be asleep by now if you were here"
He pouted a bit.
"Chris ditched me for Andi"
"How is Andi?" I questioned.
I tried not to go full nurse mode on my friends and family, so I bit my tongue when it came to asking Andrea if she was pregnant. Not only was she glowing, but her boobs looked perkier than usual. Andi was petite, so it was pretty obvious that something was different about her.

"She looked pretty tired after the game"
I looked away from my phone when I heard a knock on the door. Who was knocking at this time? It was late. Another knock was heard and Cody groaned.
"Coming!"
I looked at my phone as Cody sighed.
"That must be my mom"
He slowly sat up.
"I'll let you get that door and get back to studying"
I nodded and looked at William's keys that were on the kitchen counter.
"It must be William, he did forget his keys" I said.
"Well then I'll let you go"
He puckered his lips a bit and smiled.
"Good night, sleep tight"
I nodded.
"Good night" I told him.
I blew a kiss and proceeded to end the call when I saw he had 'caught' the kiss.
"Coming!" I called out when I heard yet another knock on the door.
To my surprise, it was Auston. Being the bigger person I chose not to slam the door on his face. instead, I crossed my eyes and cleared my throat.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
Let's just get straight to the point.
"I was hoping we could talk"
I raised an eyebrow.
"I thought I made it clear that I didn't want to speak with you" I stated.
It was rude of me, but he deserved it.
"But you're here, and I actually have manners so come on in" I said.
He looked at me a bit surprised.
"Really?"
"If you try anything, I will punch you" I warned him.
He nodded.
"Are you going to walk in? Because I can change my mind" I stated.
I stepped back so he could walk in, and once he was inside I locked the door. Signaling at him to follow me, I led him to the living room. We took a seat, and I made sure to keep a nice distance from him.
"I'm really sorry"
He sighed and looked down at his thighs.
"Getting over you is proving to be a lot harder than I hoped for"
"It gives you no excuse to kiss me" I stated.
"I got incredibly shitfaced and I honestly don't know how I ended up here"
William had told me that Auston did not remember what happened that night.
"I'm sorry, I really am"
I nodded and looked down at my phone when it chimed. Cody had just texted me,
"You seem happy"
"I am" I confirmed.
With a smile on my face, I replied to Cody's text;
😉
I glanced up at Auston.
"How did you know I was home?" I wondered.
"I overheard Willy telling one of the guys that you had a midterm to study for"
Note to self, tell William to stop telling people what I'm up to.
"To be honest, it's surprising"
Wait, wasn't he here to apologize for being a dick.
"Why is it surprising?" I asked.
"You've flown out to see him play"
I had, but it didn't concern him.
"I didn't think you'd be that type of girl"
"And what type of girl are you assuming I am?" I wondered.
"You're putting him before your own career"
"So you come here to apologize and instead you're telling me what I should do during my free time," I said.
I laughed.
"I can do as I please during my free time" I added.
How dare he.
"I would appreciate it if you left" I stated.
I stood up.
"Like now" I emphasized.
I made sure to slam the door hard enough for him to hear. He had no right to butt into my life, not even his sister did and she was my bestfriend! My phone chimed as I walked back into the living room. I reached over for my phone and looked at the screen. Cody had just replied to my text, and I couldn't help but laugh as I read it;
: I'm mentally drained, but I'm ready for my exam tomorrow.
