《late nights ; cody ko》final chapter

cody joined anaya outside, the door to her family house shut behind him. he had a smirk on his face, oblivious to anaya standing in front of him. she studied him, he seemed quite pleased with himself, "have a good time?" she asked as they jaywalked across the street to the bus stop.
"you have really nice friends," he replied, "i like your mom too."
"yeah," anaya said, sitting down on the bench, "valentina seemed to like you."
"you think?" cody asked excitedly, "really?"
anaya's eyes flicked up towards with a hint of anger, and she didn't reply.
"what's that look for?" cody asked cluelessly.
"i saw you kiss her," anaya said, "right now, when we were leaving."
cody exhaled and sat next to her on the bench, folding his arms.
"yeah, i did," he admitted, "is that okay with you?"
anaya nodded and replied half heartedly, "it's fine, i don't care."
"if that's true, why aren't you making eye contact with me?" cody asked, standing as the bus rolled up.
anaya remained silent until they were sitting on the bus next to each other, she looked at him.
"i dunno, i just thought you liked me," anaya did her best to sound as calm as possible, but part of her wanted to cry.
cody cleared his throat and sat up a little straighter, "naya, you've made it clear that we're just friends. i didn't think kissing her would be a big deal."
"it's not a big deal, cody," anaya snapped but gained her composure once more, "it's fine."
"you continuously saying that it's not a big deal makes me think that it is," he retorted.
"i don't want to talk about this anymore," she looked out the bus window, making cody sigh.
after seven minutes of silence, he counted, he tried to change the subject, "we have a few days left here, what do you wanna do? do you want to go clubbing tonight?"
anaya shook her head, "i'm kinda tired tonight, i'll just stay in."
"are you sure?" he questioned skeptically, the bus had already pulled to their stop and they had made it to the hotel lobby without any problems. she was being quiet the whole way, which was unusual for her, "are you sure?" cody repeated.
"yeah," anaya replied as she slid her hotel key into the slot, unlocking the door, "i'll just stay in."
cody decided not to press her any further and changed his clothes into something dressier, a white button up shirt and a pair of tight jeans. anaya was on the bed, her headphones on as she scrolled down her phone. he fixed his hair once more before grabbing his hotel key and his wallet from the bedside dresser.

"i'm going to head out," he said, standing next to the bed.
"cool," naya responded, still absorbed in whatever she was doing on her phone.
cody headed to the door, "bye," he called, looking back at her on the bed again before leaving.
--
anaya called her mom when she got bored of scrolling through her social medias and flipping through the channels on the hotel tv, "ma?"
"yes, mija?" her mom answered groggily on the other end.
"do you like cody?" she asked outright.
she heard her mom sigh before replying, "i do, yes, he's a good man. very respectful."
"do you think he likes me?" anaya asked.
"aye, naya," her mom scolded her in a voice she hadn't heard in a long time, "of course he likes you, he brought you all the way here from the states, for free! he spent the day with your crazy mother and your friends, a very good man."
that's the answer anaya didn't want to hear, she wanted a reason to hate him, to be upset with him, but there wasn't. he kissed her best friend, not even that upset her, "he kissed valentina, ma."
"mhm," her mom replied, "i saw that."
"well, should i be mad?"
"should he be mad that you introduced him as a friend?" her mother answered, "he very clearly loves you, yaya."
anaya laughed uneasily, "he doesn't love me, mom."
"you are such a beautiful, intelligent woman, but you are so goddamn stupid," she said harshly.
"thanks, ma," her daughter replied, annoyed.
"mija, it's almost two o'clock in the morning and you called and woke me up to ask me questions that you already know the answers to," her mother yawned, "i'll tell you this, you can't treat him how you've been treating him and expect him to stick around, you play with his feelings, yaya. i know you do, he and i talked in the kitchen."
anaya sat up in the bed, suddenly very interested, "you talked? about what?"
"he said that he liked you, but you've told him that you only want to be his friend, you can't blame him for kissing val, yaya," her mom explained, "men need assurance too, so be with him or don't, you can't have both. goodnight, mija. te amo."
her mom hung up, initiating the beep sound that signaled the end of the call. if it were possible, anaya was more frustrated than she was beforehand. she groaned angrily and decided it was time to go to bed. with her eyes closed her mind began to wonder about cody and what he could possibly doing right now, probably dancing with some girls or whatever. she tried to push the thoughts out of her head, hoping to get some rest before a sound at the door startled her. the doorknob to the hotel room rattled ferociously, someone was determined to get in.

anaya jumped up, looking for a weapon to stop the intruder, her hand found a lone pen resting on the bedside dresser. she gripped it defensively, stepping towards the door curiously and tentatively. the doorknob continued to rattle, fear rose up in her even further.
"naya?" cody called from the other side of the door, "i can't find my key, open the door. are you up?"
anaya breathed a sigh of relief and she unlocked the door, revealing cody with a reddened face. his cheeks were flushed with pink and his forehead was beading with sweat. the top buttons of his shirt were popped open, revealing his bare chest and a few hairs. he was breathing heavily, he looked disoriented.
"are you okay?" anaya asked, placing her hand on his arm in concern.
"i was at the club," he said as he pushed past her to sit on the bed, "you know, the one down the street?"
"yeah," naya replied.
"and i was dancing, it was fun," he threw his head back in remembrance, "it was so fun, and i drank so much-"
"i get it, you had a good time," anaya mumbled, suddenly uninterested, turning her attention from him.
"no!" he said insistently, standing up and racing towards her, slightly stumbling out of drunkenness, "just listen."
he approached her and gripped both of her hands in his, "naya, i want to be with you."
anaya almost stopped breathing, her mouth falling open a bit in shock, "cody, you're dru-,"
"listen, shhh," he put his finger over her mouth and continued to talk, "i have feelings for you. i am protective over you. i care for you and i want you. when i was partying, it was fun but you weren't there. i want to have fun with you, do things with you, wake up in the same bed as you-,"
anaya cut him off by placing her lips on his in a soft peck, "you're drunk, baby. let's go to bed and talk about this in the morning."
"no," cody stood his ground, "we're talking about this now. but can we sit down? i'm dizzy."
anaya tried not to laugh and nodded, leading him to the bed where they sat facing each other.
"when i kissed her, val," he continued, "i didn't feel anything, but when i kiss you i don't wanna stop, is that dumb?"
"no," anaya replied, looking into his eyes, "i feel the same."
"and when we're texting i wait by the phone for you to reply, it's like i'm a teenage girl or something. and naya, naya i-" cody stopped to try to gather his thoughts, "i talked to your mom and she made me realize that if i want you i have to tell you, she thinks you can't make decisions for yourself."
"she's right."
"so, yeah, even though i'm drunk," cody laughed, "i want to be with you, and i want you to tell me right now if you feel the same."
"and if i don't?" she asked.
"then we'll finish this trip and that will be the end," his excited tone faltered, "i can't be your friend after, that would be too hard, we can go back to our lives you can go back to jake or whatever."
they studied each other's faces for a gut wrenching thirty seconds before anaya answered his ultimatum in something just a little above a whisper, "i want you too."
"huh?" cody asked drunkenly, "i didn't hear you."
"oh my god," anaya rolled her eyes with a soft chuckle, "i want you too," she replied a little louder.
"yeah?!" he asked excitedly, grabbing her face in his hands.
"yeah," she smiled, as he smashed his lips on hers, not realizing his full strength and he pecked her lips repeatedly.
they pulled away and she ran her fingers through his messy hair, "come on, let's get your drunk ass to bed."
"alright, baby."
she helped him to unbutton his shirt and his pants and pulled the covers back for him to get under. she crawled into bed with him and rested her head on his chest. she heard his heart pounding rapidly inside his chest and she glanced up at him in concern, "your heart's going a mile a minute, what's up?"
cody looked down at her and with the glare of the moonlight on his face, illuminating the smile that had creeped up on his lips, "i think i love you, naya."
"i think i love you too, honey," anaya replied within a second thought, and she meant it.
