《My World is Drowning [Irondad]》New Friend [16]

When Steve and I made it back to Avengers Tower, there was a new kid there. Brown hair that was slightly curled on his head, with sparkling blue eyes. Wade and the kid were playing soccer in the hallway of our rooms, while Shuri sat on a pillow with a whistle in her mouth, seemingly reffing.

I smiled at their happiness, sitting down next to Shuri on her pillow. I leaned in and whispered in her ear. "Who's that?" I murmured, my brain only allowing me to talk if I was sure the new kid couldn't hear.

"His name is Harley, apparently a close friend of Wade's," She informed me. "He's nice, which is surprising. I always thought that Wade's friends would act like him."

I nodded in agreement. But then I saw something strange. When Wade made a goal by kicking the ball past the cone, he laughed. I think that's the first time I've ever seen him laugh. The look of joy in his eyes was so unfamiliar.

"Wade already asked Stephen if Harley could stay since the attack orphaned him, which he replied that he'd discuss it with Tony and Steve," Shuri informed me.

I gave her a look of surprise. We're going to have another kid staying with us? I thought to myself, not really knowing how to react. I hope that means that Wade moves out of my room, or I move into Shuri's room and Harley takes my place.

Suddenly Shuri called out to them. "Harley! You should come meet Peter, he's way nicer than Wade," She told him, flashing a glare at Wade.

Harley simply laughed, kicking the ball to Wade and walking over to where Shuri and I were sitting. Wade scoffed, following Harley with the ball in his hands. "Alright kid," He began. "This is Shuri. She's smart and deaf in one ear," Wade informed him, gesturing to her. "And this is Peter, he's dumb and he can't talk sometimes. Oh, he's also a bellhead, so if you go like this~ AH!" Wade yelled really close to my ear, causing me to wince from the ringing in my head. I covered that ear with my hand and gritted my teeth.

"Wade!" Shuri scolded. She then turned to Harley. "Peter has ringing in his ears, so try not to make loud noises around him," She explained.

Harley nodded. "Got it," He replied. He then held his hand out to me. "Sorry about Wade. I'm Harley." I smiled and shook his hand. "So... you have selective mutism, right? Does that mean you have to like me to talk to me?"

I shook my head. "Peter hates Wade, yet he can speak to him. We're pretty sure it's based off of familiarity," Shuri informed Harley, ruffling my hair. Wait... did she just say 'we're'? That means she and Wade have talked about my selective mutism before...

"Oh, interesting. Well, hopefully we can get to that point," Harley told me with a smile.

"So, were you in the attack?" Shuri asked him.

Harley nodded. "Yeah, my whole family was. I was the only one who survived," He told us, his face grew dark for a few moments. But then he smiled again. I wasn't sure if it was forced or not. "But it's cool, since these social workers found me and took me in. Then Wade and I called each other and found that we both survived, and then several days later I'm here," Harley told us.

I thought it was strange how much he acted like he doesn't care that his family died. He really does push it away from him to the point where he can act normally, I thought to myself with furrowed eyebrows. That emotion has to go somewhere... either he's already dealing with it somewhere else or he's holding it back until it rebounds and he collapses. I shook my head sadly.

"I heard that Dr Strange, Tony, and Steve and the rest of the Avengers are going to be out all day today. Want to go out?" Shuri asked all of us. "Get ice cream, stop at stores and stuff. Maybe even go to the park."

Harley beamed. "That sounds so awesome! It's been a while since I've spent time with friends," He declared.

Wade sighed. "Fine, but does that mean we have to babysit sealed-lips?" He asked.

I shot Wade a glare. "Wade, are you ever not an asshole?" Shuri asked him as we all stood up to leave.

"Well, before the attack, he was actually super funny and sarcastic," Harley informed us. "I would laugh every time I talked to him because of the comments he made."

I don't think I can imagine Wade being like that, I thought to myself as we all walked down to the lobby.
