《My World is Drowning [Irondad]》Selfish [10]

I hated watching Peter and Shuri talk to each other. Well, it was more like Shuri talking and Peter listening. It makes me so frustrated... so... jealous. I bit the inside of my cheek as we made our way to the destroyed section of New York.
Eventually we made it, and it only brought back bad memories. Water swirling... getting stabbed in the stomach with a glass shard... one of my eyes being flashed so brightly that it can no longer see. My mom dying. It made me uneasy, causing me to rub my wrist.
Peter and Shuri split up separate ways, stepping through all of the broken concrete and cement. Metal bars, pipes, and frames. Bricks, ripped furniture, and the smell of rotten flesh. ()
As curious as I was to go off on my own, I decided to follow Peter. But I followed him on an elevated area, so he couldn't see me. I didn't trust him at all, his lack of speaking makes me know little to nothing about him.
While Peter walked, he looked distraught. I guessed the memories came back to him as well, since he looked at all the destruction like it was a battle field. I rolled my eyes. What a pussy, I thought to myself, even though I felt the same way at the beginning too.
Yeah, I'm a hypocrite, but so what? I'm not sulking about my mom's death, so why should he about his aunt that might not even be dead? Plus, I'm pretty sure losing your mom is tougher than losing your aunt, tough luck kid but we're all dealing with shit so he can suck it up.
All the thinking made me super angry with him, since he was using it as an advantage for attention. Fuck this guy.

Peter suddenly turned, as if he had heard something. I began listening too. mrrow. I raised an eyebrow. It was a cat meowing.
The kid started jumping through and around everything quickly, chasing after some sound. I picked up my pace, following him carefully and quietly. Suddenly Peter stopped in front of an American Shorthair cat that had its tail stuck under a brick.
Peter cooed, lifting the brick off of the animal. The cat purred, beginning to rub it's head up against Peter's legs with affection. The boy giggled. "Kitten," He said innocently.
My eyes widened. That's the first time I heard his voice. I assumed that the selective mutism thing meant that his brain didn't let him talk when unfamiliar people were around, and according to Peter's brain, he doesn't know that I'm around.
The kid lifted the cat into his arms, and continued to explore amongst the broken buildings. He was laughing and petting the creature. "Whiskers?" He offered, staring down at the cat. "Mittens?" He questioned. "Smokey? Sooty? Kimba?" The cat's ears perked up on the last one. Peter smiled. "Hello Kimba."
The boy looked up ahead, and his smile faded. I looked where his eyes were staring, and noticed an arm sticking out from underneath a cement block. Peter set Kimba down, racing over. He lifted the block after many failed attempts, managing to scoot it just out of the way so the body was completely on top.
It was a girl, with brown hair and-
"May?" Peter whispered, brushing the girl's hair out of her face. "A-Aunt May!" He exclaimed, voice cracking all over the place.
Suddenly I felt horrible watching it. His aunt was dead. I watched as tears streamed down his cheeks as he shook her body, like she was just going to wake up.

"Please get up... please open your eyes..." Peter begged, sniffling and sobbing. "You're all I have," He cried, grabbing her hand and interlocking his fingers.
The world seemed to get darker as black clouds rolled over the skies. It was as if God was grieving for the boy. I bit my lip, feeling sad for Peter.
"Please May... please..." His voice was at a whisper, causing me to barely hear him. His sobs were way louder than his words. I was not intending to hear his voice this way.
I took my phone out of my pocket quickly, speed dialing Tony since I really didn't want to confront Peter. Ironman seemed to pick up quickly. "Wade, what's wrong?" He asked immediately, probably knowing I wouldn't call unless of emergency.
"It's Peter, he found May's body," I informed him in a sorrowful voice.
There was a brief pause. "I'm on my way to your location," Stark finally replied. Then he hung up.
I took a deep breath, looking back over at Peter. At this point the kid was holding May's hand with his forehead pressed to her forehead. He was crying pretty loudly at this point, sniffling like a baby that got its toy taken away. Except the baby is a 15 year old boy and the toy is the only person he had left.
Suddenly a loud thunder boomed in the sky. Peter let out a scream, letting go of his aunt and covering his ears, falling backwards onto the ground and squirming like a fish out of water. I silently cursed Thor, even though I knew this one wasn't his fault. He's the one who proclaims himself as the God of Thunder, so I'm blaming it on him.
That's when Ironman landed next to Peter on the ground. "Kid..." He whispered, watching the boy rest his hands on his chest and breathe heavily, probably recovering from the ringing within his skull. There were still tears streaming down his face, clearly in a state of crisis.
I finally emerged from my cover, not really caring if Peter saw me anymore. I debated calling Shuri, but my own selfishness took over and I couldn't let Peter to boost their relationship. So I decided not to call anyone else.
The Ironman suit opened up, revealing Stark stumbling out next to the kid. "Buddy buddy buddy.." Tony murmured as he brought the boy closer to him, attempting to comfort him. "It'll be okay," He assured him.
Peter continued to cry and sniff, grabbing Tony's wrist for comfort. I bit the inside of my cheek, not really knowing what I should do. I shoved my hands in my pockets awkwardly, beginning to walk away.
I really didn't want to, but Shuri was by herself, and I knew this was my chance.
