《My World is Drowning [Irondad]》Bell in the Head [3]

Waking up was a nightmare. I instantly rolled over and coughed up tons of water onto the ground, feeling the burning in my chest slightly subside. The ringing in my ears became loud for a few seconds. "AGH!" I screamed, rolling back onto my back and covering my ears even though it doesn't do anything. "Make it stop!" I yelled in agony.

"You okay, kid?" I opened my eyes that I didn't know were closed after the ringing became a hum in the background once more. I stared at Ironman in complete terror, not knowing why I couldn't open my mouth and speak. "Come on, I know you're not mute, you were screaming just a couple of seconds ago," Ironman said, not believing that I couldn't make myself speak.

I opened my mouth again but no sound came out. I really wanted to ask for Aunt May but I just couldn't make myself speak to the Avenger for some reason. I started tearing up, not really knowing what was going on.

"Tony, relax." Captain America walked up behind Ironman. "I've seen this before," He told the metal suit, looking back down at me. "It's called selective mutism, it's a form of anxiety disorder after trauma. It mostly happens to young kids but I've seen it in teens too."

My breathing quickened, staring at the two. I opened my mouth again but I couldn't force myself to speak. "So he just won't talk? Because he was screaming of pain a minute ago, holding his head and shrieking like a psycho."

Captain America bonked him on the head with his shield. "Selective means that he can only speak to certain people. To people he trusts," He snapped at Ironman, then he turned to me, holding his hand out. I grabbed it, letting him pull me up. The burning in my chest returned as I stood up.

"Agh," I groaned, placing my hand on my chest.

"Friday, do a body scan," Ironman ordered.

"Performing a body scan," A robotic feminine voice replied. "Body scan complete. Peter Benjamin Parker. 15 years old with a concussion, damage to the ear drums and recovering lungs," She informed the Avenger.

Captain America walked away, seemingly searching for more bodies in the mess.

Wait, mess?

I took a chance to look around, just seeing pieces of building everywhere. Some buildings still stood, but their top floors were completely destroyed and their bottom floors washed out. Most buildings where just gone, turned to rubbish and scattered across the ground.

Ironman and I were standing on a bunch of pieces of concrete. I noticed that Captain America was lifting up big pieces, looking and then setting them back down. I saw the Hulk from a distance, throwing pieces around everywhere.

There were also firefighters, doctors, and police men everywhere. As Ironman seemed to be studying something within his helmet, a police car with its sirens on drove past me. The loud sirens made me feel the ringing in my ears become louder. Eventually the volume of my ears was so painful I couldn't take it.

I fell onto my knees, closing my watering eyes and covering my ears. "FUCK!" I yelled, falling onto my side and scrunching up into a ball again, the ringing making me feel like my temple was about to explode.

It temporarily deafened me. I saw Captain America rush over along with Ironman. I noticed Cap's mouth moving but I didn't hear any words, the ringing in my ears completely drowning out all the sound around me.

Within a few moments the ringing began to fade into a hum once more. "What was that?" Ironman asked, confused. I pointed at the siren on the cop car as I sat up, realizing that super loud sounds must trigger the ringing in my ears.

"Let's get him out of here, the loud noises are hurting him," Captain America told Ironman, shoving me into the metal suits arms.

Tony Stark groaned under the suit. Then he lifted me off onto the ground so he was holding me. "Off to Avengers Tower we go!" He exclaimed, starting up his boosters on his feet.

The loud jets caused some pain in my ears from the ringing, but not as bad as the siren. It seemed like the louder the sounds, the more intense it was. I learned later that it also depended on how obnoxious the sound was. My head is able to adjust to loud music right away, only causing moments of pain, but sirens make my head hurt a lot more for a lot longer.

"I'm going to have my friend Doctor Strange take care of you," He told me as he flew.

I had heard of Doctor Strange, we had to study him in class for social studies. He used to be a doctor but then he became some sort of magic wizard, seemingly now a smarter doctor.

"We don't have Bruce right now, the Hulk has taken over. He's kind of helping citizens but I think he enjoys breaking the pieces of building more," Ironman said. I soon realized that he was sort of talking to no one since I couldn't respond, but at the same time I guessed that he liked that I couldn't respond.

It probably makes me a better listener anyways.
