The next morning is quiet, most likely due to the fact that Beverly's breathing is erratic, and his hands are shaking as he pours himself a cup of coffee. Red watches him, lip stuck between his lips.
But he knew, he knew it wasn't the right time—or day, to make a move in Beverly. Especially when he also couldn't help but have anxiety. He hadn't seen his old friend in a while, and he only hoped things would roll over smoothly.
Beverly turned toward Red, a nervous smile plastered on his pursed lips. "I-I'm ready to go, Red."
Red nodded, not asking anymore questions, as he slid his trucks keys onto his index finger, pointing over to the front door. "Alright—after you."
Beverly help the door open behind him, surprising Red, as he was about to make the lazy gesture for Beverly. But the two only smiled at one another, not verbally acknowledging it, but only mentally feeling satisfied. Happy.
Beverly watched cautiously as Red put the truck into drive, and began to make their way toward that unforgettable place, he'd tried so hard to overcome.
Red awkwardly focused on the road, his fingers clutching at the steering wheel, as he could feel Beverly's eyes boring into the side of his head. "Was there anything else you needed, Bev?"
Beverly bit at his lip, a soft smile breaking through. "No, I'm sorry for staring. I'm just really, really grateful that you're doing this for me. And maybe, you and my father can also talk about old times—"
"Our old times weren't the best, Bev."
Beverly immediately nodded in understanding, his face flushing red. Why would he bring up their time together in jail, of course Red would be opposed to laughing it up with his father. There was only one topic they shared—jail.

Beverly reached out for the radio, fiddling before finally landing on a song that used to make him smile. When his grandmother was still with him.
Demons, he remembered it was called. And it used to make him feel as though it was a good thing his parents weren't apart of his life. Like maybe, his demons wouldn't interfere with them, that way.
But in this case, Red couldn't help but feel an emotional pull toward the song, just as he looked over at Beverly. He wanted to protect Beverly from his demons—but Beverly was adamant the night before.
He shut his eyes for a few moments, basking in the feeling of Beverly's forehead against his, the two of them exchanging punishing smiles.
It was another hour and a half, before Red began to recognize the familiar gates, and guards standing by with large firearm in their hands, non-negotiating frowns on their faces.
And with the first bit of signs, Beverly turned to him, a grin taking up all of his face. "We're here, Bev—we're finally here."
