Cody's POV- September 2017
Maddy sniffled a bit as she adjusted her glasses. Her eyes were bloodshot red at the moment because she had not stopped crying since she bid goodbye to the team after the game. The day had finally come, she was leaving to Toronto today. Mateo had gone ahead to check Poppy in, but he'd be back.
"Let me know when you land"
Maia nodded at Mike who proceeded to give her a squeeze and a peck on the lips.
"You've done this before, you got this"
I looked at Nate and Noah who were both being hugged by Maddy. She pulled away, and offered them a smile.
"You two take care of each other and of mom for me, ok?"
They both nodded.
"What about dad?"
She smiled.
"Mike takes care of you three"
Nate nodded as he wiped his face his the back of his hand.
"I'll see you in a couple of weeks, ok?"
The Dodgers were going to make post season, and she would try to make it to at least one home game. I understood she would be busy with school, so I was thankful with what I was getting.
"No breaking bones, ok?"
Noah nodded as he sniffled.
"I love you"
He hugged her and she kissed his cheek.
"I love you too"
When they both pulled away, Mike stepped forward and smiled at Maddy.
"It will all be worth it"
She nodded as he pulled her into a bear hug.
"And it will pass by super quick, we can use those five years you were in Gainesville as an example. Have fun, and enjoy every minute of it. Cody will be here waiting like the good trophy boyfriend he is"
That got a small smile from her.

"I'll see you late, alligator"
He kissed her forehead and I took a deep breath before stepping forward. Maddy looked at me and began her breathing quickened.
"I don't like to see you cry" I told her.
She sniffled.
"It's hard not to though"
I nodded and pulled her into a hug. She hugged my waist and buried her face against my chest.
"It's not a goodbye" I began saying.
I kissed her forehead and smiled as she looked up at me.
"It's an I will see you later" I stated.
My hands cupped her face and I wiped the tears off her face.
"In a couple of weeks" I added
"I just got used to seeing you almost everyday"
I smiled and kissed her.
"I'm a phone call away" I reminded.
She nodded.
"I love you"
"I love you too, so much" I responded.
I let out a shaky breath.
"Don't think how many days we will be apart, think about the number of days till we see each other again" I said.
She sniffled and pulled me down. I kissed her as if this would be the last time kissing her fully aware that her parents were across from us watching.
"Honey, we need to go"
I closed my eyes as we pressed our foreheads together. Mateo was now Poppy free, so it was time for them to check in.
"This is going to work" I promised.
I gave her one last peck.
"I fell in love with you since the minute I laid my eyes on you. If I waited two years for you to notice me, I can handle a couple of weeks without being near you" I confessed.
I let go of her, and offered her a smile.
"I promised I wouldn't do this" I began saying.

As hard as I tried to be strong in front of her, I couldn't.
"I'm going to miss you so much, but I can't be selfish and beg you to stay" I told her, my voice cracking at every word I said.
She nodded.
"I turned out liking you more than I originally planned"
I chuckled.
"You're worth every single mile that will separate us" I told her.
I sniffled and wiped my face.
"Call me when you get to Toronto, ok? It doesn't matter how late it will be" I made her promise.
"Of course"
Stepping forward, I gave her one last kiss and hug.
"It's a good thing your roommates gave you a framed picture of me" I joked.
She laughed.
"Have fun in Toronto babe" I wished.
"Kick Giant butt my love"
I squeezed her before letting her go. Taking a deep breath, she smiled and looked at Mike, Nate, Noah, and I.
"I'll see you guys soon"
We watched as Maia, Mateo and Maddy walked away.
"You ok?"
I turned to look at Mike.
"No" I admitted as I let all my emotions show.
He offered me a smile as he patted my back. I used the back of my hand to wipe my face.
"One day you won't have to say goodbye ever again, only good night"
He squeezed my shoulder.
"That's what will keep you going"
Maddy was it, she was the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. It was hard to see her go, but it was for the good of her own career.

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/
