"If I drink

If I smoke

I keep up with the guys

And you see me holding up,

My middle finger to the world

-Maggie Lindemann

It pissed TJ off by how everyone was acting. The guys kept making jokes about her being a drug dealer and the girls wanted her to hook them up with Jared. Every time she walked down the halls between classes she had to wear her headphones to block out their latest gossip about her.

She didn't even know what gave Jared the balls to sit with her. He didn't notice her before he changed and she wished he would've kept it that way. The other part of her knows that she overreacted yesterday. Even though she isolated herself on purpose, she figured that it really did suck to have to keep a secret from your best friends to protect an entire tribe.

"Can I borrow a pencil?"

She broke out of her thoughts to see Paul looking at her. She reached into her bag to give him one and when their fingers brushed, she couldn't help but notice how warmer than average he felt.

He had a lot of pencils in his bag, he just wanted an excuse to talk to her in hopes that she would talk to him. Today she was wearing a white off the shoulder peasant crop top, an overall dress and sandals as the weather wasn't too bad. Her eyes were the color of emerald today.

He had heard that Jared Cameron had befriended her and it made him jealous. She wasn't his girlfriend but what made Jared so special that he could talk to her? After she stormed out of the cafe the other day, they seemed to be getting along now and even sat with each other at lunch.

"Would you mind explaining this to me? I don't get it." He noticed that she completed the assignment in record time and had been listening to music.

Just as she was about to open her mouth, the bell rang. She shot him an apologetic look before grabbing her paper and handing it in.

She walked down the hall and soon felt a warm body next to her that she knew was Jared. People parted for them like the Red Sea and she hated the way that they treated them, like they were Gods gift to the world.

"I don't know how you stay up all night and still pass your classes." Jared commented as he leaned against someone's locker and waited for her to drop off her books.

They had slowly begun to get used to each other and he found that she was really nice to be around. The persona that she put up in school wasn't how she actually acted. She was sweet, sarcastic and fun loving.

The patrols were taking a toll on her too, but she was fortunate enough to have a photogenic memory, that was her only saving grace. Sam had been making them do patrols as soon as they got out of school until early mornings. He was being extra cautious because the legend said that wolves only start to shift when enemies arrived. It had been three years since Sam first shifted so TJ concluded that the Cold Ones must have been somewhere in the area, left and then came back.

That night she had been patrolling when she came across small footprints. With the exception of "adventurous hikers" no one should be on this side of the forest.

She felt a shift in the wind close by and went to follow it, when she came to a river, she noticed a deer crossing the river. A blur of grey and brown jumped at the deer and she ran at the thing and kicked it into a tree. When she landed on a rock, she noticed that what she kicked, was a person, sort of. He was huge and abnormally pale with black eyes. Soon he was joined by a beautiful blonde woman with the same pale skin and eyes.

"Who are you?" The blonde asked.

Whatever this girl was, they knew she wasn't human if she was able to actually take Emmett down. She smelled like a hint of wet dog but she wasn't a shapeshifter, she was just always with them. As hungry as they were, her blood strangely didn't appeal to them either.

"Trinity but I go by TJ and you?"

"Emmett Cullen and Rosalie Hale." The male said.

"Are you vampires? I can't hear your heartbeat."

She heard a howl in the distance and knew that it was Sam calling her back. She gave them a mock salute and ran back the way she came.
